"Lady Jane" is a song by The Rolling Stones that featured on their 1966 album Aftermath. It delivers an Elizabethan atmosphere with its lyrics and haunting instrumentation showcasing Brian Jones on dulcimer, and indeed was rumored at one point to be about the wives of Henry VIII. It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and is considered by many fans to be the highlight of Aftermath and one of their best tunes.
On the studio version, there are no drums. When played live, however (for example, on their 1966 live release "Got Live If You Want It!"), Charlie Watts would make use of the drum kit.
While both the US and UK releases of the album had different tracks, this was featured as track three, side one of both albums.
It appeared in the US as a double A-side with album-mate "Mother's Little Helper".
In Neil Young's 1975 album Tonight's The Night the tune from Lady Jane is "borrowed" for the song entitled "Borrowed Tune".
