Nathan John Schierholtz (born February 15, 1984, in Reno, Nevada) is a right fielder in the San Francisco Giants organization. Schierholtz is currently on the Fresno Grizzlies, the Giants' Triple-A affiliate. He made a good first impression in limited action with the Giants, with a .325 batting average in 40 at-bats. Schierholtz got his first major league hit on June 12, 2007 against the Toronto Blue Jays. His most notable moment while on the big league club was on June 23, 2007 at home against the New York Yankees, when he blooped a single to center field in the bottom of the 13th inning to win the game for the Giants.
High School, College, and the Minors
Schierholtz grew up in Danville, California. He attended San Ramon Valley High School, the same high school as teammate Randy Winn. Schierholtz was not heavily recruited out of high school and instead decided to play for Chabot College, a community college in Hayward, California. He played only one season for Chabot, starting at third base. He batted .400 with 72 hits, 60 RBIs, 18 home runs, and 45 runs scored that year before being drafted by the Giants in the second round (63rd overall) of the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft. In 2004, he switched from third base to right field. Schierholtz excelled at each of his stops in the minor league system, en route to his call up in 2007. Nate Schierholtz continues to be one of the top outfield prospects in the Giants' farm system.
