Hungarian euro coins
Hungarian euro coins have not yet been designed.
Hungary has been a member of the European Union since May 2004, and is a member of the Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union but has not completed the third stage of the EMU and therefore still uses its own currency, the forint.
Current plans indicate the design of the national side is to be designed in 2007.
Hungary's government has all but dropped plans to adopt the euro by the original date of 1 January 2010. Most financial studies, such as those produced by Standard & Poor's and by Fitch Ratings, suggest that Hungary will not be able to adopt the common European currency before 2011 - 2012, due to the country's high deficit, which in 2006 exceeded 10% of the GDP.
However it is still controversed the EURO name for the currency, since according to the Hungarian Grammar, if the letter "O" is the last of a word, it must be written as ó, so that EURO is written as euró in hungarian. Anyway, this type of controversy is raised by bulgarians, latvians, lithuanians and others. So, together with the greek letters, we might see different names for the EURO, especially for the hungarian version, if it will be adopted.
