Guidelines
Players
- Naming convention
A proposal has been written here: User:Caknuck/Naming conventions (baseball players)
- Notability
Any player who plays in the top professional league in their country is notable. This includes Major League Baseball in North America and Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, among others. Most minor league players are not considered notable, but some players are as determined by WP:BIO. Baseball executives, coaches, and managers are also notable.
- External links
- Baseballstats – provides links to stats sites
- Bbhof – baseballhalloffame.org template for HofF biography page.
- Japanesebaseball – japanesebaseball.com template for Nippon Professional Baseball career statistics.
- Lists
When creating an article for an MLB player, remember to add his name to the list of Major League Baseball players. Also, when adding them to the list, make sure he has actually played in the majors. (This is sometimes an issue with prospects who were added to the 40-man roster without receiving a callup to the majors.)
From players to managers to owners, more info at Players task force.
Teams
- Article structure
The guidelines in this section are intended to serve as a starting point for writing a good article; they are not meant to enforce a single structure on all articles, nor to limit the topics an article will discuss.
- Team info (template)
- Team history (abridged)
- Separate link to detailed history (when appropriate)
- Current roster (template)
- Retired numbers & HoFers
- Links to more info (template)
- Award winners & league leaders
- Team records (current records should be deleted on sight.)
- Players of note (non-HoFers)
- Team's HoF
- Broadcasters
- Managers & ownership
- Post-season series
Note: Defunct teams should be similarly structured to existing teams.
- Infoboxes
- Template:Infobox baseball team – For international teams
- Template:Minor league team – For minor league teams
- Template:MLB infobox – For MLB teams
Seasons
See separate talk page.
Postseason
- Infoboxes
- Template:Infobox WorldSeries – For World Series
- Navboxes
- Template:Mlbplayoffs – Small navigation box for MLB playoffs
Record lists
- Naming conventions
"List of league leaders in time-period stat" and "List of league stat champions". For example "List of Major League Baseball leaders in career stolen bases", "List of Nippon Professional Baseball leaders in single-season wins", and "List of Major League Baseball save champions".
- Table formatting
Example:
Bold text indicates an active player. (show for career lists only) Last updated July 11, 2007 {| class="wikitable" !Rank (or "Year" for champion lists) !Player !Team (omit for career records) !Stolen Bases |- |1 or 1903 |Rickey Henderson |Team1 |1406 |- |2 or 1904 |Lou Brock |Team2 |938 |- |}
Multiple columns are recommended for very long lists.
- Categories
Category:Baseball records and Category:Baseball lists are likely appropriate.
Other
- Navboxes
- Template:MLB – Navigation box for Major League Baseball
- Template:Professional Baseball – Navigation box for worldwide baseball leagues

Task forces
We have a number of task forces in this project. The following is a list of these task forces and their purpose. Anyone may join a task force and improve the quality of the articles they cover.
If you are interested in a different area which is covered by this project but has no specialty, consider proposing a task force on the talk page. There are many advantages to creating a task force, rather than starting a new project.
Topic Specific
- Players task force is a task force aimed at improving the quality of articles about players in the sport of baseball.
- Little League task force is a task force aimed at improving the quality of Little League articles, mainly the Little League World Series.
- Old-time Base Ball task force is a task force aimed at improving the quality of baseball articles which involved topics Pre-1900, before the modern era of baseball.
- League and team article standardization is a task force aimed at standarizing all professional baseball league and team articles, including indexing (categories).
Region Specific
- Japanese baseball task force is a task force aimed at improving the quality of Japanese baseball related articles.
- Korean baseball task force is a task force aimed at improving the quality of Korean baseball related articles.
- Taiwanese baseball task force is a task force aimed at improving the quality of Taiwanese baseball related articles.
Portal
We maintain the baseball portal on this project. Feel free to help out.
