'''Richard Roeper''' (born August_1, 1960) is a Columnist for the ''Chicago_Sun-Times'' and, since September 2000, has co-hosted ''Ebert_&_Roeper'' with Film_critic Roger_Ebert.
Roeper was born in Chicago,_Illinois. He graduated from Illinois_State_University in 1982 and began working as a columnist for the ''Chicago Sun-Times'' in 1987. The topics of his columns range from Politics to Media to Entertainment, and he has written several books on Film_criticism and Urban_myths.
After Gene_Siskel, of ''Siskel & Ebert'', died in 1999, the series continued with a series of rotating cohosts. The show was renamed ''Roger Ebert & The Movies'', and featured rotating co-hosts. In what would become an on-air audition that ultimately was whittled down to Joyce_Kulhawik, Michaela_Pereira and Roeper, the latter was offered the opportunity to co-host the popular film review show with fellow ''Chicago Sun-Times'' columnist Roger_Ebert. Ebert_&_Roeper premiered in 2000, and immediately enhanced Roeper's importance as a film critic, although, as a humourous news columnist, he has been criticized as lacking Ebert's reputation and skill.
