User:PeterWesco is a brand new account which seems remarkably knowledgeable about WP, and has launched many prods and AfDs [1] and been quite disruptive. Very strong anti-environmental POV pushing in areas related to energy and climate change.User:Boundarylayer has also been involved in much anti-environmental POV pushing and disruption in these same subject areas [2] . In terms of editing patterns, on the 25th August PeterWesco finished editing at 7.48 and Boundarylayer started at 8.42; both accounts do not appear to be online at the same time. Both accounts have the same distinctive style of writing on Talk pages -- plenty of accusations in double-spaced typing with no signature, see [3] and [4] Johnfos (talk) 23:43, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you to Jayron and Amalthea for the useful comments below. They really have helped me (and perhaps others) to clarify things. On the basis of what has been said I accept that these are two separate and legitimate accounts. This finding will enable me to better assume good faith with these editors and work with them. - Johnfos invited me by email to comment on this SPI report. He had two suspected long-known trolls in mind. As I don't have checkuser access, I can only go on behavioral evidence, and without going into too much details, based on the behavior, I am fairly confident this is neither of them. Which is not to say that this user is or is not a sockpuppet of anyone at all, just that I do not recognize the specific editing behavior, and it isn't a match, as far as I can tell, with either of the two names sent to me by email, whom I do know fairly well. --Jayron32 22:27, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

- That's not actually the case, the two accounts have a strong timing overlap starting 15:28, 25 August 2012. Once they both made an edit only 6 seconds apart. Additionally, in the two diffs you selected and also in others I see a number of significant differences (usage of punctuation, talk page sections, ...). In fact, looking at the edits from August 25, if they were one person they would have been editing for 24 hours without sleep - I'd say it's likely they are not even in the same timezone.
PeterWesco certainly is a curious account, but I don't think he has anything to do with Boundarylayer.
Amalthea 16:12, 26 August 2012 (UTC)- I'll close this then. If you ever think you know who PeterWesco might be let me know -- like I said, it is a curious account ... Amalthea 07:53, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

On the basis of his edit history,User: HafniumDrive appears to be a sockpuppet of User:Boundarylayer, who was recently blocked for making legal threats, i.e., an accusation of libel. HafniumDrive created his account after the block on Boundarylayer. He edited a page here which Boundarylayer has contributed to, saying the same as him and editing in the same style. And he raised a question here about libel on Wikipedia, although he purports to be a new user. Pelarmian (talk) 15:24, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Alright, Why am I(User:boundarylayer) banned exactly? First it was due to a charge of making legal threats when the totality of what I wrote was that an edit was false and libel here on the talk page of Campaign for nuclear disarmament. I would revert that if its such a serious taboo on wikipedia, that is, if I can have my account back, to do so. Though I'm still pretty incredulous at it being equated with a banning offense.
Now though it appears I've been further banned for being a sock puppet? This isn't the first time that someone has claimed I am a sock. Previously it was claimed that I was User:PeterWesco but gladly the investigation showed that I wasn't. Now I do realize it is unusual that this now under question User:HafniumDrive inquired on my behalf in regard to the legitimacy of my ban due to legal threats. Sounds almost like someone was looking out for me. I was pretty peezed at wikipedia in general after being banned for the non-event of calling something libel, so explained my frustration to friends and co-workers, it may have been one of them who enquired on my behalf but I have yet to talk to everyone I told.
All in all, I am left with the persistent taste in my mouth that this is all very odd.

- That explains why he failed to provide a diff on my talk page when he asked me about whether or not a single use of the word "libel" violates WP:NLT or not. Blocked and tagged as an obvious sock. Dennis Brown - 2¢ © Join WER 16:10, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

Earlier today, ApatheticName started a conversation on my talk page (diff) requesting the unblocking of Boundarylayer. This alone seemed pretty odd, as the two had no obvious on-wiki connection: Boundarylayer was blocked in June 2022, while ApatheticName didn't start editing until July 2022. It is obviously possible that the pair know each other offsite of course. When the conversation did not immediately result in the result ApatheticName wanted, they instigated a personal attack on the original blocking editor, Cullen328 (diff). They have also made some weird edits at RfA featured Boundarylayer (diff). Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, but if it quacks like a duck... - ApatheticName has been identified by two CheckUsers as a sock of a different master. Closing. Bbb23 (talk) 22:45, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
