Portal:Management
- Portal:Management (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
An automated spam portal, with no previous history.
This portal was created[1] in August 2018 by @The Transhumanist (TTH), as a fully-automated portal which drew its "selected articles" list solely from Template:Management. That made it simply a WP:REDUNDANTFORK of the navbox. (For a full explanation of why this type of portal is redundant, see the two mass deletions of similar portals: one, and two, where there was overwhelming consensus of a very high turnout to delete a total of 2,555 such portals).
In December 2018 , TTH added [2] Template:Business administration as a source, so that the "selected articles" list is now drawn from both Template:Management and Template:Business administration.
However, both those navboxes are transcluded in the head article Management, leaving the portal as a redundant fork of that page. The portal now makes its slideshow of articles from a randomly-chosen subset of only 25 of the 225 articles linked from the two navboxes. The portal displays only one image in its picture box: File:USCG Org Chart.jpg.
The portal's bloated display of a random 11% of the total content is redundant, because two newish features of Wikipedia provide this functionality without ordinary readers (i.e. those who are not logged in) for all links on the head article without leaving the head article:
- mouseover: on any of the linked list items shows you the picture and the start of the lead. So the preview-selected page-function of portals is redundant: something almost as good is available automatically on any navbox or other set of links
- automatic imagery galleries: clicking on an image brings up an image gallery of all the images on that page. It's full-screen, so it's actually better than even a click-for-next image gallery on a portal
These features have also been available to users of the Android app since 2015.
So this automated portals fails the WP:PORTAL principle "Portals serve as enhanced 'Main Pages' for specific broad subjects". There is no enhancement.
Management is broad topic, and en.Wikipedia clearly has a lot of relevant articles, so a good portal could be built on the topic if some editor puts in the time to research the appropriate topics, and build a curated. If they do so, then building a new shell takes only seconds: enter {{subst:Basic portal start page}}
, and save. And in the meantime, there is nothing to be gained from luring readers to waste their time on this automated clone.
So I propose that this portal and be deleted per WP:TNT, without prejudice to recreating a curated portal in accordance with whatever criteria the community may have agreed at that time. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:53, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

- Delete - Automated portal, 0 subpages, created 2018-08-14 07:21:09 by User:TTH, useless navigation tool, redundant to the existing articles and navboxes, and of lower quality: Portal:Management. Pldx1 (talk) 18:33, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete as a WP:POG failure and WP:PORTAL failure due to restricted scope and lack of maintenance. Furthermore, this was clearly the result of WP:MEATBOT behaviour. SITH (talk) 12:39, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
