Portal:Fencing
- Portal:Fencing (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Delete Abandoned infant portal covering a narrow subject. One each of article, biography, image, DYK (which has a "citation needed" tag: that's a first.). WP:TNT applies. UnitedStatesian (talk) 13:23, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete, but without prejudice to recreating a curated and maintained portal, in accordance with whatever criteria the community may have agreed at that time.
- The list list of subpages at Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Fencing shows that this is indeed an abandoned draft portal:
- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal:Fencing/Selected_article&action=history — no change since 2006
- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal:Fencing/Selected_biography&action=history — one minor tweak in 2010, otherwise unchanged since 2006
- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal:Fencing/Did_you_know&action=history — one copyedit in 2012, which was reverted
- WP:POG#How_often_to_update? says that unless automated, the content selection should be updated monthly, or preferably weekly. Even on a monthly cycle, this pseudo-portal has missed over 150 consecutive updates, and it is time to stop wasting the time of readers by luring them to this abandoned draft. The two primary purposes of a portal are navigation and topic-sampling, both of which are done vastly better by the head article Fencing and the navbox Template:Fencing.
- However, Fencing is clearly a broad topic, and Category:Fencing shows that Wikipedia has lot of content on the sport. So this should be a WP:TNT deletion, to allow for the possibility that editors may emerge who want to both build and maintain a portal which actually meets the WP:PORTAL principle that "Portals serve as enhanced 'Main Pages' for specific broad subjects". --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:47, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete: Can be covered by Portal:Martial arts. --Phospheros (talk) 20:25, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete for now, as covered by Martial arts, but will consider a statement by the portal originator, although they have not maintained the portal. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:58, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
- What are the rationale for the proposed deletion? — Twisted86 - Talk - at 14:39, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
- This portal violates WP:POG, which state portals should be "about broad subject areas . . ." UnitedStatesian (talk) 12:24, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
