Redirect to Sunil Shetty Notability is not inherent because of her husband, however, it does appear that the media has been interested in their relationship which is why I recommend a redirect.Mkdwtalk 09:25, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]- Comment I came here thinking it would be an obvious "delete" but there has been a lot of news coverage of Mana Shetty. To test her individual notability, I carried out a search excluding "Suniel" and "Sunil" and still came up with 57 hits for her that don't mention her husband. That's actually pretty good going for someone "notable for being a wife/girlfriend", so I think there's a case for deeper investigation. I'll hold off on a vote for now until I've had a look around the sources in more depth. At the very least this should be redirected, not deleted. Mabalu (talk) 10:12, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep I was hugely mistaken. After I saw Mabalu's comment I did some more searching and I found droves. She is definitely a celebrity wife, but a very prominent one -- to the point where she has gained her own notability via a lot of public attention. Independent and reliable sources where she is the direct subject of the publication: The Times of India (1), Times of India (2), Times of India (3), Times of India (4), DNA India, Mid-Day, The Hindu (1) and Sify. Other sources with direct mentions not relating to her husband: The Hindu (2), India Today, Economic Times, and the Times of India (5). There were plenty of more links to look through but I stopped after I found the Sify interview with the appropriately titled: I'm more than just a celeb wife: Mana Shetty. I can see how this was missed in WP:BEFORE, I didn't catch it myself, but when refining the search pattern it came up in spades. I would also like to note this was only what came out of Google News. Other checks reveal similar sources in other search categories. Cheers to Mabalu for the catch. Mkdwtalk 10:35, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- The recurring refrain in these sources remains the owner of an NGO and fundraiser organizer (besides being Sunil Shetty's wife). The NGO itself may be notable (I don't know), but the owner? Not sure. Despite being mentioned in several news reports, and indeed interviewed in at least one, I am still unsure if she meets GNG, may be just borderline. The article "I'm more than just a celeb wife: Mana Shetty" begins like, "Suniel Shetty's wife Mana gets upset the moment you call her a celebrity wife. She makes it a point to say, "I have an identity of my own". And why not, she is a designer, runs an NGO and also organises a fundraiser exhibition." So, she has of course her own identity, but notability? Let's see what others opine. Redirect seems to be a better option.--Dwaipayan (talk) 23:43, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I disagree actually. Most of the sources don't mention the NGO. For example, Times of India (1), Times of India (3), and Times of India (4). The DNA India article interviews her directly and discusses her mother and their relationship and to a lesser extent about the NGO. The same with The Hindu (1) where it talks more about her fashion and her NGO is a trivial mention. Lastly, in regards to her Sify interview, it's about her. That along with the other interviews (not trivial mentions) are the basis to establish notability in which case I still maintain there are enough sources to do so. - Not widely cited by any major news agencies or publications, except a few, where she is mentioned to be Sunil Shetty's wife along with minimal mentions of her being a fashion designer. A little research would conclude that she's just a mediocre designer. Totally non-worthy of an independent page. Harsh (talk) 10:31, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Mabalu and Mkdw's arguments are persuasive. And I'm someone who is very sceptical about both India and celebrity articles. Harsh states that "she's just a mediocre designer". I've no idea, and it's a very subjective thing to judge, but if her name sells product, for whatever reason, then she may well be a successful designer, which is probably what we should be trying to judge. - Keep Having considered the sources and arguments, I am voting keep. We are not here to decree whether or not someone is a good designer or not, but to judge whether or not they have received appropriate coverage that demonstrates their notability. The article needs editing and sourcing, as it is currently far from even being a good stub, but the subject has significant media coverage on her independent of her husband, plus coverage where her husband is mentioned as a side-note. Yes, she is Sunil Shetty's wife, but she also passes general notability due to this coverage and articles on her various ventures. Mabalu (talk) 21:59, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Keep - yeah, needs expanding, but the sources presented above are convincing enough for me. Questions as to the "quality" of her designs should be left to reliable sources, not our personal likes or dislikes. Stalwart111 12:47, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
