On a user's own talk page, policy does not prohibit the removal of comments at that user's discretion, although archival is preferred to removal.
So he can remove whatever he wants, though arhviving would be better. (I'm not sure if this next part is official policy or not, so take with a grain of salt if you wish) I know that I've seen a few admins admonish users who continually replace warnings on user talk pages after the "owner" has removed them. The only situations where I usually see users continue the placement, without it being considered harassment or disruption, are when the user is a vandal-only account, indef banned, or not established. There was a big policy debate about this. Also, there is a bit of a sidepoint, since the messages in this case were placed as personal attacks.(See the history between User:R9tgokunks and User:LUCPOL)--Wildnox(talk) 13:52, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

(oh and by the way the major official languages of the Holy Roman Empire were German/Dutch, and Latin and the Legislature of the HRE was always composed of a Hoftag or a Reichstag(oh... wait-THOSE ARE GERMAN WORDS! I just noticed you and Balcer discussed it on Darwinek's user page. Why don't you do it on the Karlovy Vary talk page? I would have read the discussion and not insisted on the tag. I think the line of argument is faulty: The tag says that the project is about topics related to Germany, not about German towns or regions. But, anyway, I will not insist as Darwinek has withdrawn the tag. No offense meant. Unoffensive text or character 11:42, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Copyright status of Image:JanZajíc.jpg
Please note that the file is probably not in the public domain (in accordance with the Czech copyright law). However, if it is the only (or one of the few) available photo of Jan Zajíc, we can probably claim fair use for it. To comply with Wikipedia fair use policies and guidelines, you should replace the image copyright tag with {{fairusein|Jan Zajíc}}, and provide all available information about it: where did you get it, where it was published, who is the author (if possible; "author is unknown" and "I don't know the author" are not synonyms) etc., and add a rationale for why you believe that its inclusion in the article constitutes fair use.
Thanks for your cooperation; if you need help, please contact me on my talk page. Regards, Mike Rosoft 11:58, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- I have added a fair use claim to the image, and even discovered the source. I may ask the Czech Radio about its copyright status, but I hope the information is sufficient to prevent its deletion (for now). - Mike Rosoft 14:18, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
České středohoří
Hi, when you are back from you wikibreak, could you please visit the discussion on the English translation of the name of Czech Central Mountains. The problem is how to translate "středohoří" (De: Mittelgebirge). I am not an English native speaker but the newest translation medium mountains sounds strange to me. The more, I cannot trace any translation of this mountain region. My suggestion would Czech highlands but I am not the one to decide. Thanks! --Cepek 09:43, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

film/movie
Ahh... wonderfully vague English language! A good place to start to see how it's generally used is Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Style guidelines. Generally, in titles 'film' is used, same with categories, templates, etc. Within an article though, either "film" or "movie" is acceptable. Some 'purists' will make the change to 'film' when wikifying, especially when linking to genres, like [[drama film]]s and the like. You're correct, movie is always a noun, film can be used both as a noun or a verb. They're generally used interchangablly in English, however here, the general preference is for 'film' (though no one will bite you if you use movie)! Hope that helps a bit - be sure to check out the link to the style guidelines. SkierRMH 07:31, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
If you have a problem with a translation of a name, fix that. I thought the problem was using references in German to source the article. There is a heck of a lot changed in that edit aside from a German name or two. Lexicon (talk) 19:47, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- You say you want English, but you want the city to be called Plzen instead of the much more common in English, Pilsen. Why? Lexicon (talk) 19:58, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Does the a. s. in Plzeňský Prazdroj, a. s. mean something like Ltd., Inc., etc? Lexicon (talk) 20:10, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- That would be a publicly-held corporation (if the shares are traded openly), or privately-held corporation (if those shares are closely held). As such, the letters should not be part of the article title (we do not include the Ltd., Co., Corp., Inc., etc. of companies in English on Wikipedia). I will fix the article title accordingly. Sudetenland and SdP

If one has 40k edits, you can bet some of them made some people very unahappy :( Feel free to read through the comments and statements, and add your own opinion; comments by uninvolved parties are very much needed. - Well, I feel more secure than Darwinek: he broke 3RR several times, and that's a clear violation. I did nothing wrong - all they can do is portray my normal edits out of context as some general bad faith violations - I doubt they will be even able to frame a single edit of mine as a clear violation of any policy. That said, with those 40k edits it's possible they can dig a few like that (particulary from my early years with the project when I was learning the ropes) - everyone makes a mistake every now and often, and the more active you are, the bigger chance one may slip occasionally :( -- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 23:32, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Prague Spring for FA?
Dobry den, Tulkolahten:
I don't think many people saw my message on the Czech WikiProject talk page, so now I'm writing to people individually. ;-) I have an idea to share with you: last year, a group of editors (in which I participated) turned Hungarian Revolution of 1956 from an utter worthless mess into an excellent Featured Article, and got it on the Main Page on the 50th anniversary of the uprising. With the 40th anniversary of 1968 coming up next spring, I would love to repeat that success with Prague Spring. I know it's a long time until the actual anniversary, but the sooner we start, the better. (It got pretty hectic with 56, we started in August and the anniversary was in October, which led to a mad dash to the finish--we barely made it.) Would you be interested in working on this? K. Non-free use disputed for Image:KrálovskáHra.jpg
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:KrálovskáHra.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:10, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Double town names in Gregor Mendel
Hello Tulkolahten. I notice you have made some edits on Gregor Mendel with regard to the double town names issue, Brno versus Brünn, and so forth: [3], [4], [5].
I'm taking the unusual step of writing to you directly, instead of posting on Talk:Gregor Mendel because that page can become very contentious.
Personally, I don't care very much whether we wind up with single-language names or dual names in the Mendel article for the various towns like Brno. Do you know of references to Wikipedia policy or previous Talk debates that would help to decide the issue? My impression is that we are to use the most common name used in *English* writings that refer to the specified town, during the time that the article refers to. At least, that is how the Gdansk/Danzig compromise seems to have worked out. So that means we don't care if a new nation arose in the area, with a different language, and renamed the town. We only care how English-speakers usually referred to the town. Our article on Moscow is not called Moskva, for example. The only full-length treatment of this point I could find is at Wikipedia:Proper_names#Place_names, though I don't think that resolves the Brno question in Mendel's article.
I am willing to consider Mendel to be 50% Germanophone and 50% Slavophone for purposes of applying the Danzig compromise with regard to town names. (Though for designation of his own nationality, he is Austrian, since that is the political unit that he was a citizen of, paid taxes to, etc).
Have you studied this in terms of policy, and do you have an opinion on how to resolve it? Thanks, EdJohnston 18:46, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Grand Duchy of Cracow move
Thanks for the RM, but I'd suggest withdrawing it: it only add a legitimacy to the undiscussed, POINT-ish, obviously controversial and no-consensus move of Matthead. I moved the article back to the orginal name which seems to have consensus - of course I'd not oppose a RM from GDoC to Großherzogtum Krakau or Grand Duchy of Kraków (actually, just reversing the RM to GDoC -> Großherzogtum Krakau may be a good idea to show how this move would lack support).-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 18:36, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
