Center
I see that a few portals now use <center>. Although readable and effective, that is deprecated. I'm not sure what the recommended replacement is: probably something involving <div style="margin: auto">. Certes (talk) 15:10, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Certes: I like the <center> function, because it's so easy to use. Hopefully it still continues to function despite being deprecated. However, this:
<div style="margin: auto; text-align: center;"> '''Hello World!''' </div>
- Creates this:
Hello World!
- – Seems to be fine. North America1000 18:18, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, forgot about that one. It also works when "center" is spelled as "centre". North America1000 01:48, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Howard Wales
So, R.I.P. Howard Wales. Have you heard either of the albums he recorded with Jerry Garcia? (Here's Hooteroll?!) — Mudwater (Talk) 21:26, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Mudwater: Never really looked into much of that. Nice crisp studio sound there. Folks say that the live jams are where it's at, though. Yep. North America1000 06:20, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I think that's right, the live jams would be where it's at. Maybe Side Trips, Volume One will be reissued some day. Or perhaps it's out there somewhere on a file sharing site. I know nothing of such matters, however. — Mudwater (Talk) 23:23, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Mudwater: Sounds like you'd like to get your hands on that album, or maybe that you haven't heard it. For informational purposes for you (no, I'm not shilling for Amazon, or for deceased musicians), it's available on Amazon in MP3 format and CD (link). It's also available in streaming, which appears to be free if you have an Amazon account. If you hear it or get it, then you can consider improving the Side Trips, Volume One article a bit if you're into that, or if you haven't heard it yet, etc. North America1000 01:00, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
- In hindsight, my previous post was kind of ambiguous. I have the CD, having bought it when it came out. But, thanks for the tips. Re Amazon, yes, they have it on CD, but from third-party sellers and a considerable markup. I've bought new and used CDs from Amazon third-party sellers, and on eBay too. But I don't get pricey ones. I'm too
cheapfrugal for that. Anyway, I haven't listened to my copy for a while, so that's on my "to do" list. — Mudwater (Talk) 01:27, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

I was going to close this as a procedural keep based on your input (and looking at the delete !votes), but would that be considered a !supervote?Onel5969 TT me 01:12, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Onel5969: Maybe, maybe not, depends on how various folks would interpret such as close, per their own stances, viewpoints, etc. toward such as close. As a non-admin closure, people could possibly be more apt to consider it as a supervote. I guess it's moot at this point anyway, since Missvain closed the discussion already. FWIW Trampton and SwisterTwister sockpuppetry
I have that feature turned on that strikes out contributors who have been blocked. And, when I reviewed an old discussion recently, I noticed that SwisterTwister's wikiID was overstruck.
My recollection was that they could be unpleasant and accusatory, so I looked into why they were blocked.
Sockpuppetry.
I requested a listing of articles both SwisterTwister and their sockpuppet, Trampton had edited. Your talk page was one of the pages where both wikiIDs overlapped, within a short period. [13]
It seems to me they were using sockpuppetry to target you. I hate sockpuppetry. Maybe you already knew this. But, in case you didn't... Geo Swan (talk) 05:56, 9 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Geo Swan: Yep, I was aware of the sock posting on my page at the time, after the SPI, that is, which someone else initiated. North America1000 22:30, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

Happy New Year!
Walter Elmer Schofield, Across the River (1904), Carnegie Museum of Art. |
Best wishes for a safe, healthy and prosperous 2021. | |
Thank you for your contributions toward making Wikipedia a better and more accurate place. BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 13:13, 26 December 2020 (UTC) Oneupsmanship: This painting turned the friendly rivalry between Edward Redfield and Elmer Schofield into a feud. Schofield was a frequent houseguest at Redfield's farm, upstream from New Hope, Pennsylvania, and the two would go out painting together, competing to capture the better view. Redfield served on the jury for the 1904 Annual Exhibition of the Carnegie Institute; at which, despite Redfield's opposition, Across the River was awarded the Gold Medal and $1,500 prize. It was not until a 1963 interview that the 93-year-old Redfield revealed the painting as the cause of the 40-year feud between them. Schofield may have painted it in England, but a blindsided Redfield knew that this was a view of the Delaware River, from his own front yard! |
- @BoringHistoryGuy: Thanks for the holiday greeting. Them's the breaks for Redfield, eh? Well, there have been a lot of Category:Feuds throughout history, and they will likely just continue onward forever. North America1000 06:23, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- The specifics demonstrate Schofield's virtuosity (and cunning). He painted it in England (probably from sketches and memory). He submitted it to an exhibition where Redfield was on the jury (and was outvoted). Redfield would be the only one to understand what he had done, at least initially. And complaining about it would just make Redfield look weak.
- Still, Redfield may have gotten his revenge. His paintings regularly sell for 3X as much as Schofield's (although I find Schofield the more dynamic painter). == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 13:12, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your addition to Walter Elmer Schofield. My impression (Am I wrong?) is that having a gallery of images all the way across the page is not optimal for hand-held devises. Can one use "<gallery perrow=5>" on a packed gallery?
- First day of 2021, and nothing bad (so far). Best, == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 21:10, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
- @BoringHistoryGuy: I'm not sure. One would think that at the end of the right side of the screen, any remaining images would then just auto-perrow onto the next line, as occurs when using wikipedia on a computer and the packed mode is present in a gallery. I don't surf using a phone, so I won't be checking how it looks. North America1000 05:34, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
