Redlink hatnotes
The category is over 9,000 if you haven't noticed. It still seems to be growing very slowly - not sure if these are due to editors manually adding new ones or continued detection of old ones. Anyway, I have found some cases of a redlink in a {{further}} in one of a series of articles where a particular article hasn't been written yet. Instead of removing these, they could be changed to {{further if exists}} (we have {{see also if exists}}, but not one for {{further}}. MB 03:29, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- Should I create {{further if exists}}? I agree that that solution makes complete sense for "series" articles in particular, where they're likely to include redlinks to articles that can't yet be written, but presumably should be written and referenced elsewhere later. Fixing the backlog will take time and effort, but I've both been personally busy and wanted to see stability in the category count before I did more work to fix them. One thought that's occurred to me is to integrate the "if exists" functionality entirely, though I'm not fond of the idea because the failure mode (missing output) is likely to be very confusing to new users. {{Nihiltres |talk |edits}} 19:22, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, create it since you agree it would be useful in some cases. I agree having the functionality always on could be confusing, if you made a typo and didn't notice that was the cause of your hatnote not appearing. I have fixed a few hundred of these so far, but it't not as satisfying when I can't see the count decreasing. It seems that most of the redlinks are to articles that never existed (perhaps some hanotes are brought over during translations). Others are deleted pages where the link was not removed. Some are moved articles that don't have redirects for some reason. So actually inspecting each one does lead to some "rescues". I have only found one oddball case so far, The Vanishing Race has a link to a FILE. MB 20:40, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
- Just checking on this. I have emptied the redlink hatnote category of everything beginning with V - Z, except a few that I am waiting for this template.
- There is also a special case at The Vanishing Race which links to a file. MB 21:04, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- I've put this off a little, but I just made some progress, setting up {{further if exists}} as a prototype (not quite ready for use). I want to implement both {{further if exists}} and {{see also if exists}} using Module:Labelled list hatnote so as to keep implementations clean and have fewer modules to maintain. {{Further if exists}} is now implemented using Module:Labelled list hatnote/sandbox, but I'll need to write a suite of tests for the templates and the new code (needed to be done either way) before I get around to merging everything down. {{Nihiltres |talk |edits}} 19:17, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update. Obviously there is no rush; I have over 9,000 left to work on in addition to lots of other stuff. Just checking since it has been three months. I'll check in another few months if I don't hear anything. MB 22:45, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Arthur Lewis (Art Director)
Hello, I work for Executive Writing. As part of my consultancy work, I've established this account to represent clients on Wikipedia. I am hoping you can "userfy" the Wikipedia page for Arthur Lewis (art director). It has been removed and I would like to see what was removed and try and work with editors to make it better and have it restored. I have asked the administrator who removed it and have not had a response. Thank you. EWChristine (talk) 16:36, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- EWChristine, I'm sorry, but I'm not willing to restore or userfy the page for you. The page was originally deleted because it was created through undisclosed paid editing and a sockpuppet, so it's a bit too on-the-nose for me to support another paid editor seeking to restore it, even while you're disclosing your conflict of interest. Feel free to write a new version of the page from scratch—you need not taint your work with the misbehaviour of the other editor. {{Nihiltres |talk |edits}} 17:12, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

why did you delete Kathy Barnette's page?
Restore it now. There is no reason to delete it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.168.102.40 (talk • contribs)
- No. The page was deleted by consensus at AfD, and the reasoning from the AfD stands, which is why it's deleted again (with an appropriate redirect in place instead). Should Barnette win her primary election, that might be a good reason to undelete or recreate the article. {{Nihiltres |talk |edits}} 16:58, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

PRODs
Hey, Nihiltres,
I see you took care of a lot of PRODs today which is great. There are typically just a few of us who check for expiring PRODs. However, if you use Twinkle to delete the page, please use the Unlink feature to remove all of the red links that are created by the deletion of a main space article. You can also remove them all manually but that can be very time consuming so Twinkle's Unlink option really takes care of potentially dozens of red links created by a page deletion. Thanks for your work in handling these today! Liz Read! Talk! 20:02, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- Also, you can use the Twinkle drop-down method to Unlink pages even after the pages have been deleted. I have done that for the recently deleted PRODs and you can tell by my Contribution page how many pages these deletions affected. It's just a quick step to do after a page has been deleted but it can have a positive impact. Thank you again for taking care of these. Liz Read! Talk! 20:15, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

The New topic tool helps editors create new ==Sections== on discussion pages. New editors are more successful with this new tool. You can read the report. Soon, the Editing team will offer this to all editors at most WMF-hosted wikis. You can join the discussion about this tool for the English Wikipedia is at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Enabling the New Topic Tool by default. You will be able to turn it off in the tool or at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion.
The Editing team plans to change the appearance of talk pages. These are separate from the changes made by the mw:Desktop improvements project and will appear in both Vector 2010 and Vector 2022. The goal is to add some information and make discussions look visibly different from encyclopedia articles. You can see some ideas at Wikipedia talk:Talk pages project#Prototype Ready for Feedback.

Those with advanced privileges (admin, bureaucrat, checkuser) will have access to extra information that includes the Internet Service Provider and more specific location.
- Remedy 2 of the Rachel Marsden case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to delete or reduce to a stub, together with their talk pages, articles related to Rachel Marsden when they violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy.
- An arbitration case regarding WikiProject Tropical Cyclones has been closed.
Joseph Sigelman
User:Nihiltres, You recently deleted this page, please I need it to be retrieved. There is a lot of info about his criminal charges that are yet to be added to the page. Even though the article was previously deleted, they're lots of reliable, secondary sources that are available to conform with WP:BLP. Best, Trepar (talk) 23:57, 2 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Trepar: I'm skeptical, but I've restored it and moved it to Draft:Joseph Sigelman so that you can continue to work on it. You've got a bit of a bar to clear based on the previous deletion of the page—I'm satisfied that my deletion was justified—but it's probably worth trying. {{Nihiltres |talk |edits}} 01:58, 3 June 2022 (UTC)

IP adding redlink hatnote
Vietnamese mythology, I've removed this multiple times but a changing IP keeps restoring. Can you protect this article. I know of no other way to get their attention. Even if then IP was static, I'm not sure if mobile uses are getting notifications yet. Asking you directly instead of going to WP:RFPP since you are familiar with hatnotes :), but can do that instead. Thanks. MB 00:20, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
Class protection levels
Shouldn't Module:Class, Module:Class/configuration, and Module:Class/definition.json be fully-protected rather than template-protected since Template:Class is? * Pppery * it has begun... 15:06, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Pppery: Normally I'd say no, template-editor protection is sufficient, but as {{class}} is cascade-protected I've upped the protection level on those pages, plus Module:Class/styles.css, to match their effective protection level. Good catch. {{Nihiltres |talk |edits}} 15:40, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
