Speedy deletion nomination of The Barnegat Fund
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on The Barnegat Fund, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. - Burpelson AFB ✈ 17:32, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Status and Advice
As reviewing administrator, I did not delete the article, because I think it fixable.
You urgently need to go over the article to remove wording and emphasis that we consider promotionalism.
A Wikipedia article needs to be written like an encyclopedia article, not a press release--don't praise the organization or person, say what they do. Include only material that would be of interest to a general reader coming across the mention of the subject and wanting the sort of information that would be found in an encyclopedia. Do not include material that would be of interest only to those associated with the subject, or to prospective clients--that sort of content is considered promotional. Keep in mind that the goal of an encyclopedia is to say things in a concise manner, which is not the style of press releases or web sites, which are usually more expansive.
Avoid adjectives. Avoid vague language. Avoid bold face. Learn how we do internal links to other Wikipedia articles. Avoid a general discussion of market imbalances. Avoid a long discussion of a particular funding situation unless Barnagat was substantially involved, and then the section should focus very strongly on its involvement. Give some more specific information about the results of the fund, if there are sources. Make sure the references refer to the fund specifically.
As a general rule, a suitable page will be best written by someone without Conflict of Interest; it's not impossible to do it properly with a conflict of interest or as a paid press agent, but it's relatively much more difficult: you are automatically thinking in terms of what the subject wishes to communicate to the public, but an uninvolved person will think in terms of what the public might wish to know.
If you think you can do it right according to our guidelines, do so, but expect the article to be carefully checked for objectivity. I will look in a few hours, and do some major cutting of my own, but you might want to do it first. If I get there first, be very cautious about restoring material I may have cut. I advise you to fix the problem, and do this very quickly, before the article gets nominated for deletion by a regular deletion process. It might well not hold in its present state, and, frankly, unless it gets much improved I would expect it to be nominated for deletion very soon, probably today, and for the deletion to suceeed. - I've done some minor fixes, But it looks like the material in the main section of the article has no particular relationship to the firm, unless there are references that it does. You supply them. (The contents might make a nice article on hedge fund strategy, though, and I will see if I can find a place fore it.). It's your job to provide the references, not mine. It would be the easiest thing in the world for me to sit back and let the article be deleted, but I'm trying to rescue it. DGG ( talk ) 23:47, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
The article Derek J. Barnes has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. —KuyaBriBriTalk 17:58, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
