Administrators' newsletter – May 2024
News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2024).
- Phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship review has concluded. Several proposals have passed outright and will proceed to implementation, including creating a discussion-only period (3b) and administrator elections (13) on a trial basis. Other successful proposals, such as creating a reminder of civility norms (2), will undergo further refinement in Phase II. Proposals passed on a trial basis will be discussed in Phase II, after their trials conclude. Further details on specific proposals can be found in the full report.
- Partial action blocks are now in effect on the English Wikipedia. This means that administrators have the ability to restrict users from certain actions, including uploading files, moving pages and files, creating new pages, and sending thanks. T280531
- The arbitration case Conflict of interest management has been closed.
- This may be a good time to reach out to potential nominees to ask if they would consider an RfA.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in May 2024 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles in the new pages feed. Currently, there is a backlog of over 15,000 articles awaiting review. Sign up here to participate!
- Voting for the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) election is open until 9 May 2024. Read the voting page on Meta-Wiki and cast your vote here!

Racial hoax AFD close
I think your close at the Racial hoax AFD was problematic. Even though the "keep" voters certainly outnumbered the deletes, not a single one of them gave any actual substantive arguments in favor of keeping, and the strength of arguments were certainly strongly in favor of deletion. For example, "Keep real topic, meets WP:GNG." A vote as useless as this should be utterly discounted, along with all the others. Please reconsider, thanks. 35.139.154.158 (talk) 16:44, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- There is a clear consensus that GNG is met, and therefore a clear consensus against deletion for notability reasons. Therefore, the only two possible options other than keep are: 1) delete due to extremely poor quality (WP:TNT based on WP:OR/WP:SYNTH concerns); 2) merge due to insufficient standalone notability (WP:NOTINHERITED). However, I did not find a consensus for either of these options. I've discounted Gumbear's !vote as being not based in policy, leaving behind 4 !votes to keep and 3 !votes to merge or delete. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 17:47, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

Request disambiguation
I noticed that you created that disambiguation page Half-court. This gives trouble at Template:Basketball. There the term half-court is used for equipment. I hope that you are able to adjust the link there to the correct place, as equipment is neither a shot nor 3x3. Thank you in advance. The Banner talk 09:22, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
Nomination of WestNet Wireless for deletion
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/WestNet Wireless (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article until the discussion has finished.Isla🏳️⚧ 23:39, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
Doing a history merge
Hi King of Hearts,
I just found out that "cut and paste article moves" are no longer "kosher," these days. I was working on the article for Big Diomede, and wanted to move it to Big Diomede Island so it would match the nomenclature used for Little Diomede Island, but because there was already a Redirect at the "target article-url," I did a "cut and paste move," instead of a normal move. Is there any chance you (or someone else) could possibly please merge the histories of Big Diomede Island and Big Diomede, and leave the merged history at the Big Diomede Island article, where the article currently resides? I'm not even sure if it's kosher for me to be asking this of you as an administrator but I thought it wouldn't hurt for me to give it a try. I chose to ask you as the first administrator that I'm asking because I reason, "Anyone with the name like 'King of Hearts' can't be all bad." 🙂
Thanks kindly,
Lighthumormonger (talk) 17:18, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
PS: I sense that W.C. Fields, who once said that, "Anyone who hates babies and dogs.... can't be all bad," would probably beg to differ with me on my reasoning for asking you, but I take my chances!

Fixing the "Donald Trump" talk page archives
I don't know who monitors this page while you're away, but the last time I asked for something here it seemed to work OK, so I will try another request here, and see how it goes. The Donald Trump article talk page archives are in a little bit of disarray right now. One user has accidentally deleted Archive 168, and it looks like many of the discussion threads on the current Talk page may need to be archived. Retrieving the deleted archive 168 is beyond my ability. Hope somebody could please help with this. For more details on this, please feel free to check out the discussion thread on my own Talk page.
Thanks,
Lighthumormonger (talk) 22:29, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
PROGRESS REPORT:
Looks like the user who accidentally deleted the archive has now put it back. Still the current Talk page does seem to have many discussion threads that are ready for archiving.
Thanks,
