Everyone has a place as an editor on Wikipedia.
The idea of Wikipedia is that we are writing an encyclopedia written by volunteers. The natural progression is that anyone that cares and/or values the resource will return the favor and help it carry on. This may be by helping to write articles, copyedit, work on templates or software, etc. They may simply chose to give back by financial donations to Wikimedia to keep our lights on.
Editors may become administrators of the project. This means that they can block editors, protect pages, delete pages, close discussions and assign user rights. This access is not a privilege assigned to an account or a person, it is a trust to not misuse these tools.
The idea of a wiki however means that you do not have article writing experience/vandalism experience/coding experience etc. to administrate Wikipedia. As long as you know your niche and can stay within it, the fields should be open to encourage those who want to give back to do so.
