Article claims it is "immediately subject to the Holy See", but I don't believe that is correct. It is immediately subject to the Maronite Patriarch in Lebanon, who in turn is immediately subject to the Holy See. I am going to correct the article based on my understanding. SJK, it is a little strange, yes. But it is supported by Catholic-Hierarchy, a trusted source that mines the Annuario Pontifico and other sources for info. Elizium23 (talk) 01:37, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Elizium23 I don't see how it is a "trusted source". It appears to be a private project of a lay American Catholic, David M. Cheney, who does not appear to claim any special qualifications in this area. It is possible that Mr. Cheney just simply got this wrong. SJK (talk) 02:08, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
SJK, well, here's the WP:PRIMARYsource in Latin. "Eadem recto Apostolicae Sedi subiciatur, firma declaratione Sacrae Congregationis pro Ecclesiis Orientalibus de rationibus habendis cum Patriarchatu, die xxv mensis Martii edicta, anno MOMLXX; epar-chialis sedes in urbe Sydneyo sit, in qua domicilium sacer Praesul ponet, itemque templum cathedrale habeatur sacra aedes eadem in urbe exstans, Sancto Maroni sacra." Elizium23. Having researched this topic further, yes you are right. I thought the Eastern Catholic Churches had more autonomy than they actually do. The Maronite Church has autonomy in selecting its own Bishops only in its traditional territory (Lebanon etc); outside of its traditional territory, Rome chooses for it. That's why the Maronite Church in Australia is immediately subject to the Holy See, instead of being subject to the Maronite Patriarch in Lebanon. SJK (talk) 08:24, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
