getting "tough on China"
The words getting "tough on China"
were added by Username6892 on 26 August 2020 and put in the lead on 24 September 2020. R51892 changed it to a toughened stance against China
(no quote marks) on 5 March 2022 Ak-eater06 reverted on 5 March 2022, R51892 changed again, Ak-eater06 reverted again. I support R51892's change because "tough on China" is in quotes -- but I don't see that the cited source claims it's a quote of Mr O'Toole, If those weren't his exact words, then I think WP:RS/QUOTE means R51892's edit has the only guideline-compliant wording. Recent revert re "tough on China"
I noticed Ak-eater06 reverted my edit to the lead asking for consensus. In general, very few edits are too major to need consensus first (I wrote much of the article without seeking prior consensus) and the quote's removal seems to have consensus based on Peter Gulutzan's earlier message here. I think the current lead wording (which I added in August 2020) is a bit vague (What does "getting tough" mean? Does the quotation imply O'Toole said that?) which, I believe, is what lead to last year's WP:RS/QUOTE concern. I will reinstate my edit for that reaso and due to the existing consensus, though I am open to modifying the wording if anything else seems better. ~UN6892 tc 04:15, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
