Coatracking
This material was removed as coatracking, but I think it is actually relevant. The incident is surely an important part of the subject's political career. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:46, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
- Since there were no objections, I've reintroduced this material. Cordless Larry (talk) 22:21, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Move to Bill Thornton. (non-admin closure) Bradv 00:36, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
William E. "Bill" Thornton → Bill Thornton – Or William E. Thornton (politician) (there is an astronaut, William E. Thornton) or Bill Thornton (politician). "Bill" is too similar to William to be a distinctive nickname. George Ho (talk) 22:12, 11 November 2016 (UTC) --Relisting. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:38, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- He seems to be most commonly referred to as Bill Thornton in the sources cited, so I would support that option. Cordless Larry (talk) 22:23, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
- In light of comments below, I now support Bill Thornton (politician). Cordless Larry (talk) 14:01, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
- Support alternative Bill Thornton (politician) per https://www.google.com/search?tbo=p&tbm=bks&q=mayor+%22bill+thornton+%22&num=10 - and incidentally in GBooks "Bill Thornton" refers equally if not mainly to William E. Thornton the NASA astronaut, so that should also probably be at Bill Thornton (astronaut). In ictu oculi (talk) 07:56, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
- Support Bill Thornton (politician). Bill Thornton seems to be his common name and we do not use the current construction on Wikipedia. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:38, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
- Why the unnecessary disambiguator? Pppery 15:46, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
- Move to Bill Thornton – only subject known as Bill and not William – a hatnote can solve confusion. CookieMonster755 𝚨-𝛀 22:14, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
- Support Bill Thornton as the only one known as Bill. kennethaw88 • talk 05:46, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
- move to Bill Thornton (politician). There is also William E. Thornton, who is sometimes called Bill.[1] In fact, per In ictu oculi I suggest that the astronaut move to Bill Thornton (astronaut) as the "William E. Thornton" moniker is also ambiguous with this one here. — Amakuru (talk) 13:49, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
