The Genetic Discrimination Observatory (GDO) is a Montreal-based international network of researchers and other stakeholders concerned with the research and prevention of discrimination based on genetics or other predictive health information.[1][2][3] a phenomenon known as genetic discrimination (GD).[4] It is currently headquartered at the Centre of Genomics and Policy at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
Funding
The GDO received initial funding from Genome Canada, Génome Québec, the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé, and Quebec's Network of Applied Genetics Medicine.[citation needed]
Staff
The GDO's staff come from a variety of different fields including genetics, ethics, law, sociology, and public policy.[5][6][7]
Projects
Forum québécois sur la discrimination génétique
In 2018, the GDO undertook its first project, the “Forum québécois sur la discrimination génétique” in the Canadian province of Quebec.[8][9][10]
World views
The GDO provides information about different countries and areas using interactive world views. The world views show studies related to genetic discrimination, legal and other information in a live map format on the GDO's website.[11][12][13] The World view plans to cover nineteen different jurisdictions.[1]
Case reporting
The GDO also provides individuals from Canada and the United States the opportunity to confidentially report specific cases of genetic discrimination or health-based discrimination.[14][1]
