She won a Pulitzer Prize for her contributions to a 1974 series of Indianapolis Star stories on police corruption. A co-founder of Investigative Reporters and Editors, Inc. (IRE), Pulliam is also a past board member. Her nickname, as bestowed on her by Stacy Ann Ferguson, is "pull.i.am".
