Hi - with one exception, I think I'm now ready to put the GAR On Hold. The exception is the image licensing. Not an area of strength for me. The infobox image appears to be a family photo, which is fine. Do the other two look ok to you? I could wander over and ask Nikkimaria for a view, but if you're ok with them, then I am. Many thanks for your help on this and let me know if you're ok with my formally putting it on hold. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 18:09, 7 November 2017 (UTC) |

Hello: |
|||
The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Murder of Joey Fischer has been completed. |
|||
Your English is actually very good, and my questioning the GA reviewer was not intended to be a criticism of you. I felt, and still do, that they should have gone through the article and pointed out the grammatical errors and worked with you more thoroughly to improve the article. But, clearly they do not agree. Fine. |
|||
Your research is impressive and thorough, and I think adding pictures will be a valuable addition to the article. It will also add a visual component to what is now just a lot of text. |
|||
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns with the copy edit. |
|||
Best of luck with your future endeavors. |

I don't understand when you repeat names, and events and severely reword them an 81% Comes from the Names and Events named and not the actual content. Did you actually go through the copywritting claims or did you just read the percentage?Gvstaylor1 (talk) 06:26, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

some Cuban history articles
Greetings MX; I hope you're well; thank you for copyediting ABC (Cuba) when it came out on DYK a few days ago. Perhaps you would be interested in taking a look at Sergeants' Revolt and Directorio Estudiantil Universitario before they show up on the main page! Indeed—and I know you're busy, but it's just a thought—if you feel like applying your research skills to some of the Spanish-language documentation for any of these three articles, your help would be warmly appreciated. Cheers, groupuscule (talk) 02:20, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Groupuscule! Thanks for reaching out. Glad someone is working on this under-represented area of Wikipedia. I don't know anything about Cuban politics/history other than what I learned back in college (which wasn't a lot), but I enjoy reading anything about Latin America, so thank you for letting me know of these two articles. I tend to read Latin American articles from top to bottom when they reach the DYK Main Page.
- Anyways, I'll assist in copyediting from here moving forward when I see your work come up at DYK!. As far as researching goes, I don't feel comfortable (yet) with my knowledge of Cuban politics/history to take on a specific article. But if you ever need me to retrieve a source from the University of Texas Systems or to read a Spanish-language text, feel free to reach out. I have interlibrary loan access at the university system and always enjoy translating stuff. If Mexico somehow reaches your plate when writing about Cuba, please let me know! Last year I left a message on Castro's talkpage (I had a different username) inquiring about his time in Mexico. If you're ever interested, maybe some day in the future we can work on an article titled "Fidel Castro in Mexico" or something like that. MX (✉ • ✎) 03:00, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
- Groovy. I would love to someday collaborate on a Mexico-related article, maybe one that goes deeper into Mexican history. Whereas mostly I have focused on the 1960s (a decade more or less omitted at History of Mexico), this recent investigation on Cuba in the 1920s–1930s has proven fascinating, and, as you say, not well covered by (en.- or es.-) Wikipedia. It would be quite possible to keep plowing through, filling holes on the major players and groups. If you would care to look at (skim, no need to translate) a text in Spanish, maybe you could check out this article and see if it contains any important information which didn't make it into the ABC page. It also contains some pictures of a "Seal of Solomon" type symbol used by the ABC, and apparently appearing on some kind of monument for them in Colon Cemetery, Havana. I'm having trouble finding more information about the symbol and I'm not really sure how to search for it in Spanish. (I also can't find a picture of the (green?) ABC flag, which supposedly hung all over Havana briefly in 1933.) What is Espacio Lacial (lay space?) anyway? A church magazine? Thanks again for your help. Peace & blessings, groupuscule (talk) 04:10, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Groupuscule: Espacio Laical translates to "Laic Space", which derives from the French word Laïcité, or "lay", as in secular/non-clerical. They are a Catholic magazine from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Cristóbal de la Habana. The writer of the paper, Jorge Domingo Cuadriello, is apparently a reliable Cuban historian/biographer. The source you're using is pretty reliable if you ask me.
- On page 87, under the section that answers the question "Is ABC a fascist group?", it goes into detail about their green color and the Jewish symbol. This says they used green as their color because the extreme right-wing movements in Germany, Italy, and Spain were using gray, black, or blue as their colors. It later reads: Fue Machado quien organizó entre los elementos marginales el grupo llamado la porra, dirigido a agredir y humillar a los oposicionistas, como se hizo en Alemania contra los judíos. It says that Machado created a group known as "la porra", which he used to assault and humiliate the opposition, similar to what Germany did against the Jews. I'm inferring that this is the reason why ABC created a flag with the Jewish symbol. In previous paragraphs, it says that ABC was never in need of appointing a "führer" as other groups in the past did (i.e. Nazi Party/Germany?), per A diferencia de otras agrupaciones y de otros sistemas políticos, el ABC nunca cayó en el caudillismo ni planteó la necesidad de un duce, un führer o un generalísimo y sus decisiones se tomaron de forma colegiada. I'm guessing that by using the Jewish symbol, ABC was telling the government that they (Machado, etc.) were authoritarian like Hitler/Nazi Party.

DYK nomination of Grupo Garza Ponce
Hello! Your submission of Grupo Garza Ponce at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Thank you so much for your kind comments and your help with my students working on pages relating to Mexico. Students in the course will be peer reviewing each others' work over the next week, as they've all just finished their initial contributions. If you could check to see if any might be able to submit DYK's I know they'd especially appreciate your help and advice. I know there is a time constraint, but as they've been working over the past few weeks on their articles, I'm hoping they still have time. Also, I know they would all welcome any substantive advice from you as well. Their final contributions are due next month. Thank you again! DStrassmann (talk) 00:59, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
- @DStrassmann: Hi! You're welcome. It is a pleasure to work with your students. As far as DYK nominations go, the article has to be new, expanded 5x times, or moved to the mainspace from a draft (all within 5 days). I'm afraid that your students were working on existing articles that were probably long enough before they started. However, these articles needed a lot of work and I'm glad they are getting the right attention now. Please feel free to ping me in the articles' talkpages. I'll do the same with your students when I'm advising them, as I did already at Talk:Food security in Mexico. See you around! MX (✉ • ✎) 15:34, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
- @MX:Thank you for your continued help for my students. My students have received conflicting advice re the frequency of citations. The article on Citation Overkill includes the following sentence "A good rule of thumb is that, except for certain controversial topics, one footnote after a sentence is almost always sufficient," which I have taken to mean that one footnote per sentence is advisable. I realize that saying something is sufficent is not the same thing as saying it is necessary, but students more commonly error on the side of insufficient references, which puts them at risk of being reverted. Hence my advice to them. DStrassmann (talk) 01:50, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
- DStrassmann Got it. Let's have them over cite things in that case, and we can trim the sources once they're done. MX (✉ • ✎) 02:48, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

Thank you very much for pointing out some of my mistakes on the Human trafficking in Mexico article. I saw your post on my professor's page and would welcome any advice or recommendations you have moving forward! Arcendeight (talk)

DYK for Grupo Garza Ponce
On 4 November 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Grupo Garza Ponce, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Grupo Garza Ponce, now one of the largest construction firms in Mexico, had to change its business model every month during the 1982 debt crisis? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Grupo Garza Ponce. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Grupo Garza Ponce), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
