Revision as of 00:36, 22 May 2007
Avoid overloading info-en
A lot of people email info-en asking for:
- Information about products of companies on which we have articles.
- Information about registering in universities.
- Permission to reproduce our text or images.
- General questions on science, history etc.
All these people receive "boilerplate" answers which redirect them away. In order to relieve the load on info-en, all such requests should be discouraged. David.Monniaux 13:19, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I agree. Boilerplate answers are exceedingly easy to send, and I doubt many people will bother to read the now-lengthy instructions. I prefer to keep it short and sweet. — Dan | talk 15:59, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Contacting other users
This page is missing some of the most important ways to contact Wikipedia, i.e. other Wikipedians. I suggest including most if not all on WP:HELP here or at least a link to that page called "Where to find answers to specific kinds of questions" or "How to ask other users specific kinds of questions". Also, please correct "adminsitrators" --Espoo 03:01, 25 March 2007(UTC)
- WP:HELP is linked from "how to edit." I believe adminsitrators is already fixed. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 21:36, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
Typo
There is a section on this page entitled 'for Website adminisitrators' - note the extra 'i'. Perhaps an admin (or whoever has the appropriate permissions to edit the page) could correct this? Cynical 18:37, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Actually, it's "adminsitrators", as i already pointed out :-) --Espoo 20:18, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
For future reference, adding the {{tl|Editprotected}} template to a talk page should get an administrator to come by shortly and examine the request to edit a protected page, hopefully =P. — TheKMantalk 20:37, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
GRAMMATICAL ERROR: It is therefore possible for large numbers of people to write articles and update them quickly as new information becomes available; it also means online vandalism of and disagreement about content are common.

Interwiki Requests
Since the page is protected, could you please add the lb-interwiki link ? => [[lb:Wikipedia:Kontakt]].
Thanks a lot
Since this page is protected, could an admin add an interwiki link to [[no:Wikipedia:Kontakt]]? Mathias-S 17:56, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- ok. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 17:47, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Admins add sl:Wikipedija:Stik z nami to interwikies. --Mihael Simonič 12:49, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Please add link to Georgian page: ka:ვიკიპედია:მოგვწერეთ. Thanks. - Alsandro · T · w:ka: Th · T 08:53, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Press contact
FYI - I redirected the press contact to the Foundation Press page. It's more appropriate and far more up to date than the en page (I also removed the en page and put a link to the foundation press room). Raul654 04:50, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
Redundancy
It seems a bit redundant to say "how to contact wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" right below the message saying "from wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" no? :) Moulder 12:33, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, do you have any better suggestions over this redundancy? --Siva1979Talk to me 13:01, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Just to remove the second "the free encyclopedia" is all I'm getting at. Moulder 20:17, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
How to create articles
Can someone add a reply to "How do I create an article" and link it to eg. Wikipedia:Your first article? [ælfəks] 02:22, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Another request: please update the #subtitle part of the link in "Am I supposed to be able to edit your site?" to read: #Am I supposed to be able to edit your site, even if I am not logged on?
Thanks. --Quiddity 03:49, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
3rd section
The sentence in the 3rd para should read Unblocked for editing. Someone please correct it -- Lost(talk) 04:13, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- I believe it is this way because the termenology is "blocked from editing", so the opposite would be "unblocked from editing". If you still want it changed, you can summons an admin by using {{editprotected}}. Timrem 04:23, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Font size
Why is the font size so huge on this page? Can't it simply be left at default? Not only that, but one of the sections is at the default size, making it look puny compared to the others. I also had an idea that different audiences (i.e. press, newbies, Wikipedians) could each have a box in a different colour (columns?) for questions specific to them. — JeremyTalk 07:54, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Citing Wikipedia
Anyone agree the link "how do I cite WP" should point to Wikipedia:Citing_Wikipedia rather than to a very short FAQs which just points to this link? --BozMo talk 12:37, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Question
ok, under the topic of plants, QUININE, it does not say anything about what success the researches have had with this plant.
- Please read Wikipedia:Contact us to see how to contact us; this is not the appropriate page for that. The reference desk, or a note on the talk page of the article, would be more appropriate. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 20:20, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Google Earth Topographical Location of Heavens Peak in Montana is Incorrect.
The wikipedia location within google earth shows heaven's peak in the wrong location. The wikipedia location is somewhere in west valley, a fairly insignigicant mountain range. It is clearly located within Glacier National Park. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.199.42.32 (talk) 01:09, 3 April 2007 (UTC).
So what if..
- your email confirmation has expired and you can't log in to send a new one?
- you have made a ton (over 5000 for example) edits and you lose your password?
- you ask the same question to the developers sveral times and they will not awnser you?

Thanking wikipedians
Is there any way to thank wikipedians for their work? Who should I contact to send a little "Thank you" message which would be readable by every user who contributes to this magnificent project? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.243.184.189 (talk • contribs).
- Technically, your post here is readable by every user who contributes, but that doesn't mean that they'll all look here (that's quite unlikely, in fact). The only thing everyone reads is MediaWiki:Sitenotice, but then only administrators can edit that... you my want to check out the village pump, but then again, not everyone will look there... if you have specific users in mind you can post messages to their talk pages... you could make a donation to keep the project running (ok, now I'm just advertising ;-] sorry)... I'm not sure what else to tell you, there isn't really a place to leave a comment for everyone. Thanks, though, for your interest in the project! You may even want to become a contributor yourself since it's free to do and commitment-free. Have a nice day! timrem 06:11, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Question moved from above
I dont exactly how to go about making this request. But, this Website fails to mention the Rwandan genocide. It also makes no mention of the Sudananes(Darfur region) genocide which is currently occuring. I was wondering why these two states were left out. Thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 155.47.140.109 (talk • contribs).
- Actually, we do have articles on those. See Rwandan Genocide and Darfur conflict. Thank you. timrem 03:21, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Duh, the page is semi locked , but you want to report a typo
You are SOL mate! The Page 'Maya Civilization" has a nearly inoccuous typo: "They were finally sub subdued by the Spanish in 1697." Yet roaming wiki for 10 minutes did not reveal how this should be reported against a semi-protected page. DUH! SOL! Creating son of wiki with everybody sporting stinkin' badges is not going to fix the problems. Put some KR and inference technology into the Wiki interface or give up the project. Growing Pains? This is a crab-grass problem that has to be addressed if Wiki is to survive! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.202.44.80 (talk • contribs).
- Just drop a note on the talk page, that's all. timrem 03:21, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Fixed. In future, you will get a faster response by leaving a message on the article's discussion page – in this case, Talk:Maya civilization – rather than here. Thanks – Gurch 16:16, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
recent blue film contribution
I recently authored an article about blue films, a reference the underground pornography industry on the indian subcontinent. I felt that this was unique and distinctive from existing articles about the worldwide pornography industry. It seems the article was deleted and I didn't receive a notification as to why. I cited my sources and I feel I thoroughly indicated why the topic was wiki-worthy. Please let me know as to what happened. Chantoke 03:48, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
hey guess what i'm actually just a moron. how do you get alternate capitalizations of an article to refer to the one you posted. ie--my problem was my article is Blue Film, and i do not know how to direct blue film there as a link.
- Looks like you figured it out. The easiest way, as you found, is to make a link with the capitalization you want, and then follow it – Gurch 06:57, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
