Scott Michaels is an English football matchmaker, agent and entrepreneur.
Life and career
Michaels is from Lancaster, England.[1] His early exposure to football was influenced by visits to Morecambe F.C. with his grandfather and watching the 1990 FIFA World Cup held in Italy.[1]
As a young entrepreneur in 2008, Michaels founded Hairbond, a haircare brand which has Jimmy Anderson[2] and Simon Mignolet as brand ambassadors.[3]
In 2017, Michaels acquired global rights to the sports boot brand Stylo Matchmakers, named for the boots made by Barratts Shoes and worn by players Pelé, Kevin Keegan and George Best.[4]
Football agency
Michaels was a registered Football Association soccer agent,[5] specialized in brokering player deals in Europe.[6]
In 2022, he announced his plans for the National Soccer League in the United States,[7] and filed federal trademark applications for several soccer team names, including the Los Angeles Aztecs, Chicago Sting, Atlanta Chiefs and Washington Diplomats.[8] These names have been made available for investment on the crowdfunding website Wefunder,[9] where Michaels is crowdfunding for the new professional soccer league startup.[10][unreliable source] He plans to use a licensed, tour-based format for the league, operating independently of FIFA.[10][unreliable source]
Michaels is a critic of the United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer),[11][12] accusing them in 2023 of over-commercialization and nepotism within the U.S. soccer system.[13]
