Summary
Description |
Solemn Pontifical Mass by Pope John XXIII in St Peter's Basilica, Vatican City, Rome. Picture probably taken in 1962, at the beginning of the Second Vatican Council. The golden color of the vestments worn by the clergy, and the presence of a lit Paschal Candle in front of the ambo indicates that the Mass was celebrated during the Easter season. Note the papal tiaras and the assistance of Eastern rite clergy. Papal High Mass is a historical liturgy which is no longer in use. |
