DescriptionCroatia-01239 - The Peristil (9551533404).jpg
The Peristil is the rectangular space at the centre of Diocletian's Palace. On the left is the Cathedral of St Domnius and straight ahead is the Protiron intended to "frame" Emperor Diocletian as he emerged from his private apartments through the Vestibule ready to receive the adoring masses.
The opening in the lower centre is a stairway to the substructure (basement) of Diocletian's Palace.
