The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Wes Lanhupuy, from the Labor Party. The Country Liberal Party selected two candidates for the seat- Terry Yumbulul and Mujiji Nunggarrgulu.[1] The Labor Party stood Jack Ah Kit as their candidate.
