Talk.
Welcome Wikiproject Xbox members. This is your zone to talk.
Sorry!
I've fixed a couple of minor spelling mistakes for you but did not realise you were editing larger portions than normal. CagedKiller360 (talk) 22:45, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
On image use
Copyrighted non-free images such as product logos and promotional materials may not be used outside of the article namespace. You may link to these images by including a colon before the image name, as in [[:image:image.jpg]], doing this will prevent the image from being rendered. For more information on non-free content and why it can't be used on WikiProject pages, please see Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria exemptions and the more general WP:NFCC guidelines.
When using photographs of consoles or console accessories, bear in mind that you can only use free licensed imagery. Replaceable images from press kits are not allowed anywhere on Wikipedia. Luckily, there's a treasure trove of free images you may use from the Wikimedia Commons. These are located at commons:Category:Xbox 360 and commons:Category:Xbox.
Since the images used in the 360 wikiproject violate Wikipedia policies, I have removed them or replaced them with free alternatives where available. I've also removed the Microsoft logos from the relevant userbox. If these were duplicate or orphaned images, I will delete them. You are welcome to create copyright-free replacements for any deleted image, provided that they are not derivative works or trademark infringements. Please let me know if you have any further questions or if you need help with procuring free images. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 04:27, 29 January 2008 (UTC) (also posted at member talk pages)
- If the members of this WikiProject continue violating Wikipedia policies by using non-free images outside of articlespace, they will be blocked from editing. Stop and read over WP:NFC. I just deleted a half-dozen copyright violations used only for this project, I'd rather not have to deal with future infractions. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 05:59, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Template Error
Someone should fix that template (spelling errors) Talk! 01:42, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Suggestion
Would it be more accurate to name this Wikiproject "Wikiproject Xbox"? I'm just thinking that a comparable project, Wikiproject PlayStation, is named after the company's original console on the market, and there is a lot of interesting stuff about both Xbox consoles. (and come 2010-2011 when the Xbox 720 or whatever they call it comes out, it would be awkward to have the project named Xbox 360.) Maybe you could make a task force for the Xbox 360 as part of the broader Xbox project. Just a suggestion. Thingg⊕⊗ 03:03, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- We are thinking of doing that. Orignally we were just going to have 360 stuff but then we decided to in Xbox stuff too. Do you know if there is any way to change the name or do we have copy everything and put it on a new page? Best wishes.--Blackwatch21 (talk) 15:32, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
By the way, I realize that Playstation and Sega have their portals that way (we had it that way before) but I really don't like. I like the beginning box and the news box but I don't like the article box and game box.--Blackwatch21 (talk) 15:37, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Portal/project discussion
We can rename the project by moving all the related pages to new pages. (like move this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject Xbox) It will take some work (especially all the portal subpages) but I don't think it will be too hard to do. Also, whoever designed the pics/logos for the project should probably upload new version of those to reflect the changes. If you guys don't object, I'll start moving the pages right now.
I get my news for the PlayStation portal by going to google news, typing in "PlayStation 3" or "PSP" and finding interesting news items. Then, I write a quick description (ie. "Sony announces that they are turning all their PS3 production over to Microsoft.") and then include a link to a website's story on the topic. (ie. "[http://us.playstation.com/news/press?id=020108]"). One thing we should probably avoid (I've done this over at the other project) is posting speculation in the news section. I can tell you, I've been tempted to at times, and I've always been glad I didn't. Its safest to stick with solid announcements and news stories. Again, that's just my opinion and you guys are welcome to put anything you want in there. Thingg⊕⊗ 19:04, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- What do you mean "upload new versions."--Blackwatch21 (talk) 20:06, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- When you go to an image page, there is an option near the bottom of the page to "upload a new version of this file." I'm saying that if we change the name of the project, someone will have to update the pic Image:P1290340.jpg to reflect that change. (If you want, I can do it because all I'll have to do is edit out the word "360" and recenter the text.) So you do you want to go ahead and rename it? Thingg⊕⊗ 20:13, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, we should re-name the site WikiProject Xbox. I don't know why it was named this way to begin with, clearly blackwatch doesn't know what he's talking about.--Noah Baurer (talk) 20:31, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Excuse me. Maybe because we were going to make two different sites buddy. Second what is this we thing. If we are going to change the name leave it to the creators. If you want to be a member don't cause trouble.--Blackwatch21 (talk) 20:35, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- So what's the verdict? Do we want to rename this project, keep it as is, or maybe make two projects? Thingg⊕⊗ 20:45, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
I switched the name. It is now Wikipedia:WikiProject Xbox. Thingg can you please add that featured article into it. I will take care of the pictures. Noah, next time you want to act like a big shot, go some place else. Best wishes.--Blackwatch21 (talk) 20:47, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- added article back in. I'm glad we changed it. Let's go WikiProject Xbox!!! (ok, that was corny, but hey...) Thingg⊕⊗ 21:16, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Project logo
I made this pic as part of the Xbox 360 portal's logo, and I thought it might work well for the logo for our Wikiproject. Any thoughts? Thingg⊕⊗ 16:09, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
{{xboxp}} to be used only on exclusive titles?
I was under the impression that {{xboxp}} was only to be used on Xbox/360 exclusive titles. As such I removed it from Call of Duty 4's talk page. Please clarify if I've misunderstood. xenocidic (talk) 20:23, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- We are allowed to put that template on anything that uses the Xbox/Xbox 360 name. Not just the Halo series or Gears of War but any game. Best wishes.--Blackwatch21 (talk) 20:31, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Fair enough. You should clarify this on the project home page as it seems to read that it should be used only for exclusive titles. xenocidic (talk) 20:34, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- While I'm somewhat wary of putting {{xboxp}} on non-exclusive titles, if we do, the {{xboxp}} should appear below the {{cvgproj}}. xenocidic (talk) 20:47, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Perfect example - notice how the Playstation project only tags Playstation exclusives? imho we should follow suit. xenocidic (talk) 00:11, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
What will have to be the guideline for {{xboxp}}
The following directions have been added under the template:
"When placing this template on an article about a video game, please make sure that the game was '''only released for the Xbox or Xbox 360'''. It is acceptable to put this template on exclusive Xbox or Xbox 360 games with ports for PC or other devices that are not dedicated video game consoles or handhelds.
This template should be placed '''below''' the more general {{tl|vgproj}} template."
That will have to be the way it is because we can't have all the different video games-related Wikiprojects having their "this article is under the scope of the ~blank~ Wikiproject..." on all multi-platform games. Also, neither the PlayStation Project or the Nintendo Project put their template on games that aren't exclusive to their respective project's consoles. Thingg⊕⊗ 01:54, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
NPOV
"1. To make the Xbox name look better than the rest."
WTF? What happend to WP:NPOV?? --MrStalker (talk) 22:09, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- This definately needs to be looked at. Perhaps something along the lines of "To ensure Xbox-related articles are of the utmost quality." xenocidic (talk) 22:45, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- The situation has been addressed. Mr.Stalker, please leave your uncivil comments on a different page. I appreicate your concern but address it in a better way next time.--DJS24 (talk) 23:07, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Good, but I hardly think my comment was insulting to anyone, was it? --MrStalker (talk) 08:27, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- WTF?<---- That is not a very appropriate way to consult a problem and you think it is alright. Next time don’t use that kind of language in this talk page.--Blackwatch21 (talk) 20:54, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Welcome, from the PlayStation Project
Welcome to the wikiproject community! I'm excited to see another video game wikiproject. If you guys need any help or advise just leave a message on WP:TPSP talk page. I wish that the relationship between our projects stays peaceful, unlike the terrible fanboy feuds everywhere else on the web. Cool logo by the way!--Playstationdude (talk) 00:03, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
WikiProject Xbox members list
Do you guys want to use an ordered (numbered) list for the members page instead of the current unordered list? I've noticed that many narrow-scope projects use this system and I think it would be easier to keep track of who is joining that way. Ideas? Thingg⊕⊗ 02:15, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Regarding "console" exclusivity. Please visit and comment.
I brought a dispute regarding an edit war on List of Xbox 360 games regarding "console" exclusivity to the VG WP Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Video_games to try and be neutral, but your comments are welcome. xenocidic (talk) 16:42, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
All Matters
I would just like to apologize for the xboxp template. I just put my name so people could reach me and I wasn't thinking of what could happened as a result. I would like to leave all of this behind such as exclusive names, xboxp and "so-called" fighting over a what name goes first in the info box, and do what I made this project for, and that is to improve all the Xbox pages. My apologies, BW21.--Blackwatch21 (talk) 20:07, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- No problem man. Let's just put it behind us and focus on improving Xbox articles. xenocidic (talk) 20:38, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- Blackwatch21 - Your intentions are good, it's ashame we have some people trying to destroy the project. I have noticed that the people complaining are also very involved in the playstation project. The reason I love this project so much, is how it's completely different than other projects. Now I don't edit much for the project or anything, but I'm always reading the project site and related articles. I felt my input was needed. Xenocidic, I see your upset with the creators, as I see you mentioned it in Thingg's talkpage. Please address your concerns, I want to hear them. I also find it funny you address it on someone's talk page instead of the discussion, when you tell everyone else to talk on the discussion page. Let me point out that DJS24 has designed the entire project, with yes other members help, but he felt the need to design and start it up, and for someone like you to come in here and question the creators ideas is not quite right. --Noah Baurer (talk) 22:03, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- no one is trying to destroy this project. I'm not upset with the creators, and kudos to them for getting this started up. There was a slight disagreement over how Template:xboxp should be displayed, if you'd like to see the debate, click here. as far as my comments on Thingg's talk page - those were just minor gripes, as I had resolved to stop arguing about the template. however, subsequently, Blackwatch has fixed the template. I may have misinterpreted his intent and if so, I apologize. but even if I did, my other arguments as to the reasons for the template to look the way it does now are, imo, relevant. again, I think we've resolved the issue and can put it behind us and move onto more pressing matters. xenocidic (talk) 23:11, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm glad to hear that your reservations about the leadership of the xboxp, are only minor gripes. However if anyone has concerns about the so called leadership, please address it, I'm ALL ears. As for the fighting over who's name goes first, that was merely my friend changing it everytime he is on my computer. As you can see I undid a edit done by my own username. I would advise that this issue goes away very quickly, I'm upset it has gone to this point. Thanks DJS --DJS24 (talk) 00:20, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

combine templates?
i like the new template, but is there some way we could combine the two templates {{xboxp}} and {{work xbox}} ? xenocidic (talk) 05:06, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- Done. as noted on the project page, you now add
|needs work=yes
to the {{xboxp}} to add the subtemplate. Thingg⊕⊗ 20:31, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
You'll have to get a new logo.

It doesn't break any guidelines. Also, can you tell me who put it up for deletion? Who ever put up, I want to talk to them. Thanks DJS--DJS24 (talk) 16:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Finally.--Blackwatch21 (talk) 20:02, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Hey guys, Lewis Collard from the Commons here. I've been asked to re-open the deletion request, so I have (admins are meant to leave it seven days before closing them; I thought this was a clear-cut case but maybe it's not). I don't think the logo is eligible for copyright, but Anetode doesn't seem to agree and didn't get a chance to respond before I closed the DR.
I think an optimal solution, which would please everyone, would be for one of you to make one with a simpler arrangement of green circles. That way, Anetode won't have an issue with it and you still get to keep your logo. With love, 91.125.86.98 (talk) 21:34, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

8bitJake and 8bitjoystick.com
Many recent edits by the user "8bitjake" appear to be designed to drive traffic to his blog. He regularily makes uncited, NPOV claims. It appears that he is using Wikipedia in order to drive traffic to his blog.
For instance, today, he has made a post which you can read here [1]
The blog post says things such as;
"I mean come on guys. If your going to edit Wikipedia for PR purposes at least don't do it from a computer that is going to register as a Microsoft IP. If there are anyone at Microsoft PR reading this tell the user at the IP "131.107.0.73" that they need to be a little more discrete about their removal and alteration of a heavily controversial article such as "Xbox 360 technical problems". The Wikipedia user edited the article at work on a Microsoft.com network on 2007-08-03 and 2007-08-02. They have also made several edits on a variety of articles so I doubt that this user is a press relations agent. I don't think it's a deliberate conspiracy but the appearance of a conflict of interest is there."
For starters, 131.107.0.73 is clearly a proxy of some kind -- just look at the variety / frequency of chnages. Clearly not a single person.
Further, what are the content of Microsoft's edits?
"a warranty length cover all Xbox 360s sold." became " a warranty length covering all Xbox 360s sold"
"Xbox 360, that could cause a" became "Xbox 360 which could cause"
"It should also be noted that voiding the warranty by opening the system will prevent a user from ever being able to send in the console to an authorized service centre"
became
"Opening the system manually will void the warranty, preventing a user from being able to send in the console to an authorized service center"
"in use; which" became "in use, which"
"However it should be noted that there have been many reports of such devices doing exactly the opposite" became "However, reports indicate that such devices are doing exactly the opposite"
"However this extended warrranty only covers the 'General Hardware Failure' fault, all other faults" became "However, this extended warranty only covers the 'General Hardware Failure' fault, and all other faults"
Thats it. That is all the changes. Now, does the blog post sound at all accurate? It seems very purposefully designed to misrepresent the situation.
This blog post has been picked up by the Gaming News world, and now can be seen here [2] as well as many other places to be certain.
8bitjake's Blog Post will now be picked up and reported widely. Then, he will proably wish to include this blog-post (And the 2nd posts) and argue for inclusion (as he did with a couple previous blogposts.
His method has been: 1) make blog post 2) wait for news outlets to repeat it 3) include it in wikipedia 4) Traffic (profit)!
I HIGHLY recommend that Wikipedians -- and especially members of the Xbox Project -- be very careful to monitor the activities of this user.
It is my reasonsed opinion that he is using Wikipedia to provide credibility and traffic for his blog. Wageslave (talk) 18:48, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
