Resource Request
Finding a source
Tips for finding a source yourself
- Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email.
- Check what sources are available to you in The Wikipedia Library – editors active for at least six months with over 500 edits, at least 10 of them in the last month, and with no active blocks have immediate access to the Wikipedia Library Bundle.
- Available databases in the bundle include: Gale, EBSCO, JSTOR, Oxford and ProQuest
- Consider applying for access to additional Wikipedia Library sources at The Wikipedia Library Card Platform.
- Additional databases include: Newspapers.com, NewspaperARCHIVE.com, Project MUSE, Taylor & Francis and much more.
- Search for periodical titles in the Wikipedia Library database index at The Wikipedia Library/A–Z.
- Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription.
- Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories.
- Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni, if applicable.
- If the article is paywalled, a browser extension may bypass the paywall. Try Unpaywall for academic journals or Bypass Paywalls Clean (Firefox, Chrome) for news websites.
Note that sites like Library Genesis (LibGen) and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.
Making a request
- A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work.
- All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
- We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for.
- You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page.
- To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences.
- Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc.
- Indicate which Wikipedia articles are being improved.
- Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
- Filled requests are archived.
- Requests unfilled after three months will be archived.

Fulfilling a request
- Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
- Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
- Notify (mention) the requester using
{{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}
. - You can:
- point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
- share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
- upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
- email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.
Copyright tips:
- Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
- Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
- Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
- Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

Swedish newspaper articles
Hi all, please can you help me access these two newspaper archives? I need them to write an article on a Swedish television series.
Coin945 (talk) 02:52, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Coin945: You're unlikely to find anyone with a subscription to these archives. However, if you have specific articles you want, we may be able to obtain them via other means. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 14:24, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- "Via other means"? Haha, the way you phrased it made it sound like you were planning to call the mafia. It's hard to say the articles as you don't get a preview in the search to work out which have the best infomormatin. But, if it helps, the actual newspapers that are the most represented in the archive are Expressen, Göteborgsposten, Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter (archived here) Svenska Dagbladet, and Arbetet Nyhetern.--Coin945 (talk) 15:55, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
Canadian TV ratings data (specifically 1987-1992)
Sorry if this seems like an odd request because I'm not looking for one specific work/journal. I was directed here by someone else. I'm in a so far eighteen-month long process of improving the coverage of the Degrassi teen drama franchise, specifically to do with the 80s/90s versions of the franchise, which aired on CBC. I'm specifically looking for any Canadian ratings data between 1987 and 1992 if any exists to cite the same way pages about American shows cite Nielsen ratings. Various newspapers of the time claim the show averaged over a million followers weekly, and I'm looking for exact figures to add for each episode to support this instead of going off estimates. The Battle of Britain 2
A slight challenge here on The Battle of Britain 2, in that the publisher of the game posted reviews on their website, and listed the name of the publication but not the date or other information. So what I am asking for here, is if anyone is able to locate originals of these reviews, can you just please provide the citation for me so that I can reasonably include these reviews in the article?
The reviews in question are, as posted on archive.org:

For Jean Leclercq (politician). The subject was allegedly a Belgian MP (elected in the 1968 Belgian general election), but I am unable to find a source online that proves this. There is an offline source cited on his nl.wiki article that would show likely he was an MP. The source is The Belgian Parliament, 1894-1972 by Paul van Molle, and while I cannot find a GBooks page, there is this brief description.

Hi guys, I'm looking for the Worms game reviews from the magazines listed above (the list will be updated if I find info about other reviews that I need but can't find online). I'm working on the article about Worms in another language section of Wikipedia, and I have reasons to believe that these articles will help me with my research. These particular magazines are nowhere to be found online and not even for sale, and in my country there's no way to request anything from American or British libraries. Hoping you could help me.
Thanks, Coolak (talk) 11:22, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Coolak: Requested via ILL. We'll see how many of these I actually obtain copies of. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 14:23, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Coolak:, Are you only interested in reviews for the original Amiga/PC port of "Worms"? I found a review for the Game Boy port from British "Nintendo Magazine system". KHR FolkMyth (talk) 15:04, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- @KHR FolkMyth I'm interested in its reviews for any platform, but I've already been doing a several year long research and I already have most of them, including NMS. I just want to also get the ones not available online. I occasionally find such and will add them to this list, provided that I exhausted other options of getting them. If it's available online, there's a 99% chance I already have it. Coolak (talk) 17:59, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, then. KHR FolkMyth (talk) 18:28, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

- @Compassionate727: Hi, each magazine on my list already had the specific issue with the Worms review, but now I've also added the month/year of each. You probably misunderstood me, there's no need to search through a lot of magazines, in each case the specific issue is known. Thank you. Coolak (talk) 19:49, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- Facepalm I can't believe I didn't realize those were issue numbers. Forwarded this information to my librarian. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 12:49, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Compassionate727: Actually... If your librarian is willing to search some magazines whithout a specific issue in mind, I would dare to add several such magazines to the list. Hadn't done so at first because I didn't think it was possible at all. If that's okay with you and your librarian, I would definitely appreciate this additional help. Added several such magazines where I'm unsure about any Worms acticles, for each one I narrowed down the range of issues as much as possible. Coolak (talk) 21:47, 8 November 2022 (UTC)

- Alright, here is where I am at. My librarian has submitted three of the requests. One was to the Library of Congress, who I am told will not respond for a while. There are no lenders for the PSExtreme article; I can't help you there. For PC Power and CD-ROM Games, my librarian says that they will need to ask lenders outside the United States and that they "will take extra time to fill" but that she can pursue it "if these articles are important for your research." I'm sure the cost is a salient factor, even though she didn't mention it. Do you want me to ask for those two? —Compassionate727 (T·C) 15:55, 10 November 2022 (UTC)

Hoping to use this as a jumping off point (not treating it as a reliable source itself, but a guide to help find other sources, and see if I've missed anything) for articles related to the Trojan War, and its influence on medieval literature. Can't find the article anywhere else online, and it's behind a paywall at Bartleby.

1994 article in The Tuscaloosa News
- "UNKNOWN TITLE; article about 1941 Alabama team". The Tuscaloosa News. 1994.
Article discussing the 1941 Alabama Crimson Tide football team and Alabama's claim of a national title for the year. The article is discussed here but the screenshot now has linkrot.
Discussion of "Houlgate" and/or "Football Thesaurus" ranking system.
the article apparently has a quote from Holt Rast that says:
"The poll arrived at the strengths of the teams we had played in the regular season and the fact that we had defeated the Southwestern Conference Champs" Rast said. "We just grinned accepted it and said we will claim being #1."

- Torrossa is kind of annoying; my library has a subscription but I have to physically be there in person (no proxy), and it doesn't let me download or save or print many of them: "Streaming only | NO download | NO Copy/paste | NO Printing", so I'm not really sure how people can get these to you. Umimmak (talk) 05:11, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Making printscreens/screenshots of these pages, or make photos on the phone if that is impossible? That could arguably violate the licence terms for your library, but there isn't much choice in this situation, particularly if you don't have much spare time to spend in the library. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 23:39, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Seems like it’s moot regardless, don’t have access to these individual works.
- If it was one paper maybe I could do it page by page, but it’s kind of a big ask to do it for more than a dozen. Umimmak (talk) 00:12, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- Mm. Let's try this: How many instances of "hydreuma" are there in each of these papers? If it's just one page, maybe that page or even just the surrounding block of text might work. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 09:18, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

Times of India, The Hindu, and other articles from English newspapers in India about Embassy of India School Moscow? (articles may be available from the UCLA library)
For Embassy of India School Moscow (a.k.a. Kendriya Vidyalaya Moscow)
I'm trying to see if databases of English language newspapers of India such as Times of India, The Hindu, etc. have articles about the establishment of the Embassy of India School Moscow. The school was established in 1987, so the initial articles should be sometime in the 1980s.

- EDIT 2: I found that East View Information Services and University of California Los Angeles have copies of the Moscow News, an English language paper. The newspaper was active in 1987 so I imagine it would have an article about the opening of such a school. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:05, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

DIN 5009:2022-06, Anhang B
- "DIN 5009:2022-06". DIN 5009. Deutsches Institut für Normung: Anhang (Appendix) B.
For NATO phonetic alphabet. Here is a PDF of the TOC; I'm looking for just the one or two pages of appendix B. I couldn't find it at the Wikipedia Library.
This is the source used on German Wikipedia for the pronunciation of the NATO/ICAO alphabet. This is relevant because the old ICAO publication has several obvious errors and has never been corrected; it is also in conflict with NATO and the FAA. I'd like to verify that there are no typos in the copy at WP-de. (I.e. that some apparent errors there are as-is.)
I believe that only the letters of the alphabet are covered. However, if numbers are included, I request them as well.
If it is possible to photocopy the table or chart in Appendix B and upload it to Commons, to complement the older ICAO and US military tables that we have, that would make a nice resource for the many language WP's that have articles on this topic.
Thanks — kwami (talk) 21:40, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
- Kwamikagami, you definitely cannot upload them on Commons because the norms are copyrighted and cost almost €100 to download.
- But I have access to the draft (here) if you need it; registration is required). It shouldn't be that much different, and if any changes did appear, well, we'd correct them.
- If you need the actual standard, though, you'd have to wait at least until Tuesday. I'll try to send you photos of that appendix. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 17:38, 25 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks!
- That is quite different from what was posted on WP-de. Much simpler, and without some of the obvious nonsense.
- If what you find differs, please let me know, but yes, please send photos of the appendix if you can, just to make sure there are no corrections needed. — kwami (talk) 23:03, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

- OK, so I've been to the standards reading room in my country and they don't have DIN standards at all, and I'm afraid they are not available in the country (particularly since this particular standard is about language and not some technical characteristics and conventions). I tried my best, but there's nothing at this stage I can do. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 08:39, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

For Eliza Stephens, aka Anna Elisabetha Planta For the 1st one the article is talking about de:Christian Gottlieb Bunge and his family, specifically his wife Melanie and son, Nikolai Bunge. I've given the link on page 55 of the snippet that relates to Melanie, cousin of Speransky's wife Elizabeth Stephens. I am assuming, as it is on page 55 and the snippet says 1958 that it is from the first issue of volume 5. The list of issues I found are given as 5. Jahrg., Hft. 1 (Okt. 1958); 5. Jahrg., Hft. 2 (Jan. 1959); 5. Jahrg., Hft. 3 (März 1959); and 5. Jahrg., Hft. 4 (Juli 1959), but I cannot find any that I can access from Mexico.
The second is a source given in this book by Erik Amburger, p 79 footnote 241, giving the death date of 25 December 1815 for Speransky's mother-in-law (also Elizabeth Stephens). I have no idea if the original work is actually in Slovenian or if it was translated to that name for publication in the German book by Amburger. I get that both of these are long shots, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

GenealogyBank
Looking for someone who might be able to access GenealogyBank to help in the verification of citations in Ray Byars and Tommy Byars. Pretty much all of the citations in both articles are apparently to old newspaper articles found on GenealogyBank, which requires registration to access. I understand this is a bit of an unorthodox request, but there are so many of these citations in both articles, listing them individually would end up being quite a list.
