Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | |
---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism. Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Wikipedia:Village pump (policy) (edit | [[Talk:Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)|talk]] | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protect. High level of IP vandalism/sockpuppetry attempting to diverge a previous discussion. Attempts to discuss the matter have simply been ignored/erased. I believe this to be a sockpuppet of a prolific sockpuppeteer attempting to get me blocked for WP:3rr. This fits previous modus operandi of this user: using multiple IP addresses to simply contravene any changes I make: [1] [2]. Please also note that these are the sole changes in Wikipedia by either of these IP addresses, they demonstrate a significant knowledge of policy/guidelines in their edit summaries, and they both originate in Reston, VA off of a Sprint account [3] [4]. A Sockpuppet Investigation request has also been filed in conjunction with this request. — BQZip01 — talk 13:45, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
- Recommend denying the request. The "high level" of IP vandalism has to do with two edits to WP:VPP [5][6] that BQZip doesn't like. BQZ's been attempting to force merging of a discussion he started into an RfC that I started, even though I separated the discussion (which BQZ undid twice), CamelBinky separated (which BQZ undid), the IPs separated (which BQZ undid), and Mr.Z-man separated (and BQZ has yet to undo). Instead of protecting the page, BQZ should be given a warning regarding edit warring, especially against multiple editors trying to keep the discussions separate, and perhaps even a caution to stop going to WP:SPI when he doesn't like the edits being done against his preferred version (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/TomPhan). This isn't about vandalism. It's about a preferred version that BQZ wants and a content dispute. Protection is unnecessary. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:29, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Current requests for unprotection
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Template:Tfd ( | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Lower protection to semi-protection The number of transclusions is low (and going down, since I am cleaning up a little). Please note that pressing "What links here?" will give an untrue picture, because the Tfd template is added often without <noinclude>...</noinclude>
tags to facilitate widespread notification of the deletion proposal. User_talk:Plastikspork#Protection_level, who is one of the regulars at wp:tfd seems to agree with my request. Debresser (talk) 18:58, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- PlasticSpork actually notes that a reasonable edit request would cause him to reconsider reducing protection, but he currently sees no need to do so. Why are you asking for a reduction in protection? Horologium (talk) 14:58, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Indefinite move-protection, no consensus for controversial "outline of" naming of lists. Verbal chat 15:44, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
- Move protected for a period of two weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. - KrakatoaKatie 21:28, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
- User:Verbal has arbitrarily decided that outlines need to be "renamed to be more conventional" and is starting an edit war on every page he renames. He must gain consensus before 1000s of pages are changed regardless of how he feels about outlines. Outlines have existed since Wikipedia was set up, so renaming them definitely requires consensus. Please move the page back to it's original state until he can gain consensus for his controversial move. Many other editors agree and have talked to him about his actions, and he is the only opposer. -- penubag (talk) 23:45, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
- What user:verbal has done is perform a controversial move, only to get himself reverted over 3 times so he can ask for move protection. -- penubag (talk) 23:55, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

List of Smallville episodes (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Full-protection - Another editor seems to believe that a fansite is a reliable source for information, and keeps adding titles and airdates to the page that are not backed by reliable sources (per WP:RS). I have explained this to them on their talk page and on the article talk page, but they do not seem to care about what WP:RS says. BIGNOLE (Contact me)
- The editor just keeps reverting. I'm not going to revert this anymore, so if the reviewing Admin could look at the history (and review the source in question) before any decision as far as protection goes, that would be appreciated. BIGNOLE (Contact me) 20:14, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
