Revision as of 21:53, 21 April 2012
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | |
---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism. Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Anon doesn't seem to understand the use of edit summaries or WP:RS and since edits aren't vandalism, believe page protection is the simplest route. Eight day please. Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:33, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Frequent additions of hoax credits to various BLP articles, on an AOL range so semi-prot for all articles which are targeted seems to be best to prevent repeated additions. Other articles affected:

Temporary semi-protection: Several IPs (although probably the same person) have been changing the number of aircraft without source. It's been been going on for week now. The user is not joining the discussion, they are just changing the value. The page was semi-protected for a few days recently, but that didn't do anything so request for a longer semi-protection this time. A few weeks at least. Thanks. McSly (talk) 03:50, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
Note: Seems to be only two IP editors causing issues: [1][2]. Judicatus | Talk 03:58, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
- I dropped him a note on his talk page to explain that we need a source for the change.--McSly (talk) 04:13, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
This IP user has been warned and shortly after McSly's warning (thirty minutes) recommitted false information into the article. Judicatus | Talk 21:33, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
Carl Djerassi (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
'Semi-protection: An IP-hopping anonymous editor has been edit warring across a series of articles inserting trivia and COPYVIOs against consensus without contributing to talk page discussions. Combined oral contraceptive pill was semi-protected for one month beginning 24 February 2012 and again for three months beginning 16 April 2012 because of persistent disruption by this editor. Progesterone was semi-protected for one month beginning 24 February 2012 because of persistent disruption by this editor, and also again needs to be semi-protected. Lynn4 (talk) 01:46, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
- Why wasn't the (latest) IP warned about their edits? They're disruptive enough. This IP also never got a warning. Protection here would be from this editor alone; can't we first try and a. block and b. apply a range block? Drmies (talk) 03:48, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
Their latest IP (71.123.25.175) was already blocked for 48 hours on 17 April 2012, and immediately resumed disruption after the block expired.
A longtime persistently disruptive IP-hopping anonymous editor—who has for years been edit warring across a series of articles inserting trivia and COPYVIOs against consensus without contributing to talk page discussions—does not need any further warning about their edits. They need to be permanently banned from editing Wikipedia. A range block could also be effective, but would impact many innocent IP editors attempting to edit any Wikipedia article, versus only impacting a few IP editors attempting to edit a few articles.
Today, the IP extended their disruption to the Hormonal contraception article. 71.123.25.175 (talk) needs to be blocked, and the Carl Djerassi, Progesterone, and Hormonal contraception articles need to be semi-protected—probably for at least three months, as the Combined oral contraceptive pill has been. Lynn4 (talk) 18:42, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
The Percy Lavon Julian and Soybean articles, which had been semi-protected for three days and for one month in February and March, respectively, were semi-protected for three months on 9 April 2012. Lynn4 (talk) 19:06, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – This article keeps being forked out of a list entry - which the minor child character is contained in - A blocked sock puppet has continued to return over time and recreate it - it does not have the backing of WP:SOAPS and since their latest user account was blocked for socking, they have taken to IP's to edit war in order to get the stand alone article. . Current requests for unprotection
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
