Revision as of 03:16, 3 October 2007
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | |
---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism. Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

full protection against an editor trying repeatedly to change the article to a redirect without discussion--discussion requested on article talk page, but request ignored. semi-protection: Vandalized nearly everyday for weeks now. Absolutely no useful edits from the accounts hitting these pages. I'm absolutely sick of reverting this guy every single day, sometimes multiple times. - ZoeF 21:35, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- All that I see is a fight over the gender of a person who was male and is now female. So work it out. -Royalguard11(T·R!) 22:15, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- I really, really, don't mean to be disrespectful... but this same user has had this discussed with him several times in the past. He was previously banned for editing the Transgeneration article and the page was semi-protected after he continued to change pronouns after a consensus was clearly reached. He does not care about working anything out! There is no hope with him, none. What do I have to do to prove this? - ZoeF 23:03, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Adding TransGeneration to same request as it appears same user is simply using multiple anon IDs for this same disruptive "gender war" - on TransGeneration it's the entire cast of a show about people who've transitioned eith male-to-female or female-to-male. This might not be the best route so asking for what is the most appropriate? Do we simply revert warn and warn until we block each anon IP in turn? Seems frustrating to spend time and energy in this fashion. Benjiboi 00:34, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for both. Also please advice the IP of Gender-specific_pronoun#Pronouns_and_the_transgendered when the protection expires. --DarkFalls talk 01:00, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Current requests for unprotection
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Radionics (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
The sysop placing the protection was directly involved in a POV edit war. The clear purpose of the protection was to avoid the three revert rule while allowing edits from selective POV. The article was repeatedly reverted and deleted after an editor added content and sources that were not liked by the editors pushing the protection. All content and sources were reviewed by more than one independent editor (me included) and were satisfactory and true.Daoken 16:17, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- The article was undergoing edit wars and protecting it was the only way to solve that. It is irrelevant who protected it. The admin in question protected it due to the fact that the editor originating the edit war had attempted to recruit other editors to involve themselves in the edit war and to avoid 3RR. I suggest you familiarize yourself with the situation prior to making such accusations about other editors. Thanks. Wikidudeman (talk) 16:22, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- No editor was recruited that is just a justification, I received a thank you after I reverted an edit with no prior contact. Unfortunately the message above this is from an editor involved in the edit war. The clear point is that an editor added content and well researched sources, because of POV was reverted, the editor asked many times to don't revert but to make constructive edits instead and anyway was reverted and the article's content was also deleted almost totally. The editors involved took turns to revert until they were at their limit of the 3R rule and decided to protect the page. And article cannot be protected under this conditions and less than all protected as an almost empty article when the last constructive edit was perfectly correct and well sourced (even if not liked by other POV editors) ℒibrarian2 16:29, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Full-protection. News sites are saying the current champion will be forced to vacate the championship, but it's not official yet and IPs have already hit the page and are adding rumours and spoilers. As well, there has been a lot of edit warring over what the page should say, so the page should be fully protected until it is sorted out. Failing that, it should should at least be semi-protected for at a week because by then the title situation will have been cleared up and the page will be settled. -- Scorpion0422 20:33, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Semi-protected &msash; for a week. There's not enough editwarring to justify full protection, and not enough activity on John Cena to justify any protection. Simon Wessely (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
This page has been somewhat of a battleground in the past, having been blanked and protected by Jimbo in Nov 2005 for WP:BLP concerns. The debate was reignited when Alpinist (talk · contribs) made additions that were contested; the subsequent edit war led to protection on 18 September, with a short-term block for Alpinist and long discussions on the talkpage with several other users. The discussion has now died down, and I have no reason to believe that there will be further policy violations in the near future. Should that be the case, longer-term protection would be an option. Given the off-site coverage this page has received, I would suggest semi-protection instead. JFW | T@lk 13:57, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

remove The protection was placed by a sysop involved in a POV edit war. Either the sysop rethink and remove it or it must be reviewed at other level.Daoken 16:12, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
This isn't a vote. The protection was instituted because of edit warring and the fact that the originator of the edit war tried to recruit other editors in an attempt to avoid 3rr. Wikidudeman (talk) 16:13, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Please stop to say I was recruited, I received a thank you after I reverted the article with no prior contact, do not drag dirt over me for justifying your actions ℒibrarian2 16:31, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
I was not referring to you but to her attempt to recruit this editor. Wikidudeman (talk) 16:39, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

full protection Full protection: Dispute, An article that stirs up a lot of passion and controversial views, which has seen team edit-warring for a few days now (and slower edit disputes for a longer time), involving many reverts to the main article etc despite warnings from other editors re: edit warring, 3RR, and other possible means of dispute resolution that are available. Lengthy discussions on the talk page, however this seems to take place as well as, rather than instead of, the edit warring. Suggest protection until those involved can take a step back and reach some consensus regarding the issues or go to WP:DR rather than edit-warring. .Liverpool Scouse 14:37, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Edit war has stopped, no protection is needed. One Night In Hackney303 14:38, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Comment - your comment is almost laughably premature - the last edit in the definite edit war was 40 mintues ago, and one of those involved has edited since, just one minute ago. Perhaps wait a while and determine the ongoing conduct of those involved before deciding it's over? Liverpool Scouse 14:43, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'll ignore your incivility. Have you not seen an admin posting on the article talk page and on the talk pages of the respective editors? Obviously that admin feels that is the best course of action rather than protecting the page, so this is tantamount to forum shopping. One Night In Hackney303 14:45, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

full protection - edit warring, repeated insertion of poorly sourced derogatory material intending to discredit the integrity of a living person keeps getting inserted. A new editor with a single-purpose-account for editing this article openly says they will continue edit warring until stopped. Wikidemo 14:36, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Pls note, this case is discussed on Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard - Wikidemo 14:38, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

- Just for the record, I wish to note that the problem is not an alleged SPA. From my point of view, as an editor of three years' standing, the problem is that Wikidemo and others have persisted in confusing statements of fact with expressions of opinion. They have been removing reports of the opinions of prominent spokespersons. The correctness of such opinions could never be "sourced" the way a bio subject's criminal record could be sourced.
- Wikidemo removed the properly sourced material and then sought protection. In the meantime, another pro-Stossel editor inserted unsourced and false pro-Stossel apologia. Thus, in keeping with Wikipedia tradition, Riana has protected the wrong version. JamesMLane t c 16:34, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

semi protection Long term, please. The page has repeatedly been semi'd because of anons removing sourced information they disagree with. Recommend longest allowable semi protection. This appears to be an ongoing nuisance and problem as they will not discuss this on Talk. Perhaps this will encourage them to do so. • Lawrence Cohen 13:35, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
