Contained on this page are just a couple of guidelines[1] that are normally used to determine if a computer or video game is notable and deserves an article on Wikipedia[2]. This page does not contain guidelines for creating articles relating to video game development, biographies of famous video game related people, or video game related shows; this is strictly for games played on the computer or a videogame console.
Criteria
A computer or video game is notable if it meets any of the following criteria:
- The game was developed by a company that passes Wikipedia's notability guidelines on companies, or was developed by a person that passes Wikipedia's notability guidelines on people.
- The game has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the game creator(s) there selves.
- This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, television documentaries, and published reports by consumer watchdog organizations except for the following:
- Media reprints of press releases, other publications where the creator(s) talks about there selves or writes the material, and advertising for the company.
- This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, television documentaries, and published reports by consumer watchdog organizations except for the following:
- The game has won an award from the Spike TV Video Game Awards or any other video game awards show in which the game competed against other notable computer or video games.
- The game has been made or adapted with attribution into a motion picture that was released into multiple commercial theatres.
- The game can be found in many different arcades that are not just limited to a certain city or state.
Notes
- ^ Try not to apply guidelines reflexively; as if they are written in stone. All deletion discussions should be approached on a case-by-case basis, with an eye toward the peculiar circumstances presented. Keep in mind that subjects are not notable because they meet a particular standard, rather things are notable because of their impact, influence, fame, etc., and the standards are an attempt to catalogue what notable subjects share so that we can recognize that notability.
- ^ Wikipedia might not be a paper encyclopedia, but we do operate on servers which have limited space so we must only keep articles on notable subjects
