Revision as of 09:20, 18 June 2016
To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 07:13 on 20 September 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors in the current Did you know...
The last did you know is ungrammatical (and parses very strangely). Lave flows, no matter the unusual nature of their composition, are not "enigmatic". To make it at least somewhat grammatical would require a comma after enigmatic, but that doesn't address the syntax problem. I think what is meant is to is modify iron-rich by an adjective: "enigmatically iron-rich" ... though this still sounds stilted. Consider: "unusually iron-rich".--108.54.152.77 (talk) 21:29, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- Hmm. That doesn't work either because the sentence has a second problem: volcanos don't "erupt lave flows" I've rewritten the entire thing:
...that [[Lave|lava flows]] associated with eruptions of the '''[[El Laco]]''' volcano in Chile are unusually iron-rich? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.54.152.77 (talk) 21:38, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Jo-Jo Eumerus: this is your wording
Temperatures estimated for the erupted rocks cover a wide range, with some exceeding 800 °C (1,470 °F). These rocks are of enigmatic origin, which may be geothermal or magmatic, with the presence of lava bombs of magnetite lava supporting the magmatic origin theory.
And your sourcing is behind a paywall. — Maile (talk) 21:44, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- The article's use of "enigmatic", quoted above, does not suffer from the same problem—because "enigmatic origins" works fine. The usage is different in the did you know hook.--108.54.152.77 (talk) 21:56, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
- I know it's probably too late, but "enigmatic" specifically refers to the lava flows in the source. "Enigmatically iron rich" sounds to me like something else. Maybe a different word than "enigmatic" was needed.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 08:59, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
