::This is disappointing. Firstly, I am not Wickwack, Ratbone, Keit, or Floda. I have never posted nor edited anything with those names. Secondly, I have no control over my IP address. It is set by my internet service provider, who changes it on a weekly basis. There is absolutely nothing I can do about that. I cannot initiate a change in my IP address, nor can I stop my ISP from changing it. This would apply to vast numbers of people, so it appears that Wikipedia persons do not understand how the internet works. I did post a question on the Reference Desk several months ago, and was I think attacked by the same troll who had a go yesterday. At the end of the day, though, this isn't worth a lot of effort pursuing. I'll find out what I need to know some other way. Language representing Iranian Kurd
I've been doing quite a lot of updating on Behrouz Boochani, and along the way various editors have been changing the way his name is represented in other languages. I started a discussion on the talk page, and one of the editors said that he's from the Southern Kurdish speaking area, so we have that, but since then others have added Kurdish and (recently, although it was deleted previously), Persian/Farsi. I'm trying to get consensus on the talk page as to what is best, and I wonder if anyone here has any suggestions on how to rule on this if people keep changing it without comment? Keep all three to cover all bases and hopefully not offend any sensibilities? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 00:02, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Laterthanyouthink: The guideline MOS:FORLANG recommends keeping it to a single non-English name if possible. More detail is given at MOS:NICKCRUFT. Also, and this is just my suggestion, but if you can't reach a consensus with all editors on what should be in the lead sentence, maybe it should be removed altogether. After all, if someone wants to find his name in another script, both the Farsi and Sorani Wikipedia projects have articles on him. Ibadibam (talk) 04:52, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Ibadibam: Thank you - that is very helpful. I think that I'll just remove the other names altogether for now and refer to MOS:FORLANG on the talk page. As he's a Kurd, but his book was transmitted to the translator in Persian/Iranian, but we have no other guidance as to first choice, best left out altogether. Help with article expansion
I asked the following question at the Teahouse, but felt it was more directed at new users, so I figured I could try the help desk.
I recently created an article (MarbleLympics) about a popular marble racing sport. I had no trouble finding reliable citations, but before the many I found can be relevant to the content of the article, I need help with expanding the article, so I came here. Lafayette Baguette talk 01:06, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, what kind of help do you want? Formatting your writing and your citations? Knowing what belongs and what doesn't? Identifying reliable sources? You've asked a question so broad that there can be tons of accurate but not particularly useful answers :-) Nyttend (talk) 02:17, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
This is only my third article, so generally just help with formatting and what's needed and what isn't in the state of my article now. Lafayette Baguette talk 13:23, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
Peer review
I have listed Mullum Malarum for PR, but I do not know how to attract users to make comments. Is there a way? Simply asking them on their talkpages is excruciating. --Kailash29792 (talk) 05:20, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
- Kailash29792, what is the final objective of the peer review? Try Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Film/Indian cinema task force if you want a soft review. If you've just landed a million dollar jackpot at the local casino and feel that you can take on the world now, list it directly as a Featured article candidate for a brutal reality check. Yvette Dudley-Neuman
Hello I have discovered a page about myself on the French version of Wikipedia and it’s a little out of date.
1) can it be translated and the transferred to the English Wikipedia?
2) can it be linked directly to my IMDb page https://m.imdb.com/name/nm1014726/
Thanks

- 108.63.60.239 Welcome to Help desk. I believe this is the FR Wikipedia article you are referencing to - see
HERE. See below
- WP:AUTOBIO - Since you are the subject of the article, to write the article yourself is not advisable - see WP:AUTOBIO; however, you could request the article to be written by other editors - see here Wikipedia:Requested article.
- WP:PATT - The article would be translated but you need to pay proper attribution to the original editor in FR Wikipedia - see WP:PATT. However, it is better to write the article in the article editor's own words.
- Independent, reliable sources - Wikipedia sister sites (different languages) operate independent from each other. Thus an article has been accepted by in FR Wikipedia might not be accepted in EN (English) Wikipedia as each site has different guidelines and policies. The article "Yvette Dudley-Neuman" in FR Wikipedia does not provide any sources (inline citation) and if this is in EN Wikipedia, the article will be declined in main space. An article in EN Wikipedia needs to be supported by at least 3 independent, reliable sources of the contained claimed where by the sources talk about the subject in length and in depth and not merely passing mentioned. Sources from major newspaper will suffice and sources can be in any languages.
- IMBD - IMBD is an user generated site, for such it can NOT be contribute to the notability of the subject.
- Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 06:27, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Plagiarism at enacademic/esacademic/deacademic.com etc sites?
I came on the site http://enacademic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/2121599 [actualy only the cache as the site was down at the time]. It came up in a search for the painter Flora Lion who has a very brief biog at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flora_Lion, but the enacademic seems to be from Wikipedia, but is much fuller than the current one. From what I know about the painter it is accurate, I'd even say scholarly, but is unattributed. I'd like to trace the original, but pasting chunks of text just lead back to http://enacademic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/2121599.
Interestingly the only blog about it I could find was on plagiarism, but had no text http://esacademic.blogspot.com/2013/09/blog-post.html, and I have a feeling that the whole site and its different language versions are plagiarised. — Preceding unsigned comment added by C.cohen (talk • contribs) 13:04, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
- Every previous version of any Wikipedia article is stored and accessible, and this first version of the Flora Lion article from 2006 is closely similar to the current "Academic" one. Since the latter is headed "Wikipedia" it appears that Wikipedia had it first. The Wikipedia article was drastically shortened in 2010. The "Academic" site makes no secret that it draws on Wikipedia and a range of other publications.
In regard to Wikipedia there is nothing wrong with that, as our content is freely licensed for reuse: Bhunacat10 (talk), 13:30, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for that info, I must look for earlier versions in future. The 2010 cuts are a shame, some serious research must have gone into the original as it not only includes primary material which is inaccessible unless you happen to be near Southampton, but even the secondary sources are as rare as hens' teeth. It is far from clear what the Russian sites enacademic/esacademic/deacademic.com etc are for. C.cohen (talk) 14:29, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Bhunacat10 and C.cohen: The use is not okay. It is a copyright violation and plagiarism by the external site, which is not giving credit proper credit to the source. We (the editors) of Wikipedia) personally (not Wikipedia), own the copyright to our edits. Every edit you make at Wikipedia (that meets the threshold of originality) is owned by you, personally. Reusers must give suitable credit to us by listing the authors from the page history, or linking to the article (or providing the url so it can be navigated to) where the list of authors is obtainable from the page history, which we all agree is suitable credit under the free licenses we agree our edits are made under. (There are other requirements of reuse they are violating, e.g. they must list the free license, and instead they are claiming non-free copyright ownership over our content). The shame is that providing such suitable credit to comply with copyright is far from a heavy lift, and the owners of sites like that are unethical, law breaking scumbags. (A DMCA takedown notice can be sent for such infringing use, but only by a significant contributor to an article; I've done that a number of times for content ripped from articles I was a majority contributor to; see Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks#Non-compliance process).--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 13:09, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

How can I insert a tab character in the source editor?
I've noticed some places where editors have used tab characters for formatting, for example when writing out JSON for TemplateData. In the source editor, if I press the "Tab" key on my keyboard, the browser just moves the cursor from the main editing area to the Edit summary field, rather than inserting a tab character at the location of the cursor. Is there a way to insert tabs in the editor that's more convenient than just copying a tab to my clipboard and pasting it? I checked Wikipedia:Keyboard shortcuts but couldn't find anything there. Is there a template for audio with an image?
Is there a template like {{listen}} that includes a thumbnail image? I'm thinking about use cases like an image of a music score with a corresponding recording, or a recording of a speech with an image of the speaker. Ibadibam (talk) 04:41, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

New Section suggestion: wiki Medical
Is there any way to suggest new features or languages to Wikipedia? I was wondering if in an effort to disseminate in depth medical knowledge and treatment protocols freely, there can be a section or language feature in the sidebar of medical diseases and concepts that is more geared towards the medical professional, something like an UpToDate that is not behind an expensive paywall. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shaye18 (talk • contribs) 04:44, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Shaye18: Thank you for asking. A good place to start a discussion on an idea or suggestion could be the "Village Pump" (Wikipedia:Village pump (idea lab)). Or post on the talk page of WikiProject Medicine.
- If you're interested in a project to translate medical articles into many different languages, this may interest you: WikiProject Medicine/Translation task force: Bhunacat10 (talk), 10:29, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Shaye18: Note Wikipedia:Medical disclaimer: "WIKIPEDIA DOES NOT GIVE MEDICAL ADVICE". Wikipedia is a project by the Wikimedia Foundation. I don't think they will support anything which gives the impression of medical advice. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:38, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- @PrimeHunter: none of the paywall ones do either, they have a disclaimer like that on the bottom
- That doesn't sound like a function of an encyclopaedia, Shaye18. The Wikimedia foundation has a number of other Wikis besides Wikipedia, for different purposes. I don't think it would fit in any of those, but it is possible (though I think unlikely) they would countenance the creation of a new one. Alternatively, you could set up your own Wiki for the purpose, using a host such as Wikia. --ColinFine (talk) 19:07, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

This article has been deleted in 2016 after discussion (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yanet García) at it is only a gossip sheet which has only one link to a B-movie where she has a very small guest-role. In 2017, it was recreated without further justification and should be deleted again as this person has no place in an Encyclopedia.
How do I proceed as the discussion on the subject has been used in 2016?

Unhelpful attitute of editors
Hello, I recently starting editing my first article ('Sherborne School') and have had one editor put COI and POV notices on it and another undo an image change, both without clear reasoning or explanation despite my polite requests on their talk pages.
I have made it clear that I have no connection with the school and am editing unpaid. I just read a book on the school and noticed that the article was tagged for missing citations so thought I would put those right, tidy it up and add a few other noteworthy facts.
In terms of the image, it seems the original image was made by the objecting editor so perhaps he feels attached to it, however it is in the incorrect colour.
As someone with a doctorate in History I understand the process of peer review and welcome the suggestions of others, particularly as I am a novice editor. However taking actions against my edits without providing clear reasons feels an awful lot like bullying to me.
I think that's it for my Wikipedia editing career; I had expected higher editorial standards. However I just thought someone should know. Fuseemusee (talk) 13:45, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Fuseemusee: I see your point with the image/logo - it does seem other sources using it have it in the colour you uploaded, rather than monochrome, although I am certainly not qualified to judge what is right/wrong. Perhaps you should express your desire to change it on the article talk page and allow anyone else to make a contribution/expression of opinion? If you don't get (m)any replies, you could take it to WP:RFC if you feel strongly enough about it. The COI tags are not too surprising for a new user account that makes nearly all of their initial edits on a specific article. I haven't looked through the edits in any great detail, but you could ask on the placing editor's talk page which parts they consider(ed) COI so you can remedy? Bungle (talk • contribs) 14:24, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Bungle: Thank you Bungle for your thoughtful reply. I note that you share my impression about the logo colour. Unfortunately that editor only issues threats and does not seem to engage in discussion. Frankly I am not that bothered and was just trying to do the right thing. I had not realised Wikipedia was such an adversarial and subjective editorial environment. I think my best course is to just stop editing. Fuseemusee (talk) 09:32, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Fuseemusee: Not a problem. It'd be a shame if you were put off editing by what is a disheartening experience, although civil discussion on concerns with interested/involved parties can be fruitful when done respectfully. I don't think this is necessarily extreme enough to consider WP:DISPUTE, but rather consensus through WP:RFC from uninvolved parties would be perhaps a preferred approach to take. Give anyone involved the opportunity to express their own reasoning (on the talk page), and if you disagree or can't see reasonable weight in the argument then you can request comments from others. Bungle (talk • contribs) 12:47, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Fuseemusee: One of our basic methods for collaboration is called bold-revert-discuss: wee WP:BRD. It can seem like bullying to a new editor, but it is not intended that way. You correctly tried to open a discussion. give the other editors another day or two to respond, and if they do not, re-introduce your edits. You may have fallen victim to a snap judgement by a high-volume vandalism fighter. Those guys sometimes suffer combat fatigue and make mistakes. You might also wish to centralize your discussion by opening a new section on the article's talk page and "pinging" the other editors there, by adding {{ping|otheruser}} to that section. If you cannot resolve this by consensus, proceed to WP:DISPUTE -Arch dude (talk) 16:32, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Arch dude: Thank you Arch dude for your kind reply. 'Combat fatigue' strikes me as a very telling phrase for what is clearly an adversarial environment in which threats and woolly objections have predominated my first editing experience. It is also my last; I am used to higher standards of debate in the search for objective truth.Fuseemusee (talk) 09:32, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
page cancellation
Hello, kindly you can delete the page of this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domenico_Morgante because the Italian version has already been deleted and keeping four lines of the English version does not make sense. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Inutile74 (talk • contribs) 15:23, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- The English article once had 34 references until most were deleted. I've not checked the quality of all those references. Possibly they were removed for a good reason? Deletion of an Italian article would not automatically cause an English article to be removed. Could you tell us the reason for wanting deletion? Dbfirs 15:39, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- The size of the article as short stub is no reason for deletion, as long as the topic is encyclopedic and available sources are sufficient to establish "notability" in Wikipedia's sense of the term (WP:GNG, WP:BIO). I have no opinion on the specific case, just noting the general handling of such short articles on en-Wiki (of course other Wikis may have differing guidelines). - We have an article Alma mater, so the solution is to link to that article so that anyone who has not seen the term before can read about it. If you think it has been misused somewhere, please let us know in which article so that we can check. Dbfirs 07:52, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- I think this is a valid point, and quite likely arose from seeing the term in an infobox. I made this link in the label in Infobox academic, but was unable to do the same in other widely used infoboxes such as person, scientist, artist, writer etc. because full-protection. - @Hildeoc: Template:DYK talk is transcluded in 86779 pages. The link works on some pages, is broken on some pages, and isn't present on some pages. Please always give an example when you report an issue. https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews has data starting July 2015. For dates since then there should be a working link to that tool. For some earlier dates there is a broken link to http://stats.grok.se, a tool which has often switched between working and failing but I haven't seen a working article link for a long time. I don't know a working tool with data before July 2015. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:34, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- @PrimeHunter: Thanks a lot! Yes, those transclusions using
http://stats.grok.se
are exactly what I was referring to.--Hildeoc (talk) 22:37, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

Wrong redirect
Hi, i just detected a completely wrong redirect. If you search for the "Wilhelm-Hack-Museum" - which is a quite wellknown museum in germany - you get redirected to the town of Ludwigshafen. The museum is situated there, but the redirect is wrong because the article is on the city and not on the museum. What to do? --Gyanda (talk) 21:56, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Gyanda: It's not wrong. If a subject does not have its own article then it often redirects to an article with some information about it. Wilhelm-Hack-Museum redirects to the section Ludwigshafen#Culture which has a paragraph about the museum. It's possible to change the redirect to an article. See Wikipedia:Redirect#How to edit a redirect or convert it into an article. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:17, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

Timeline with diagonal lines? (relisted)
(I've relisted this question as the previous version was marked resolved and about to be archived anyway.)
Three days ago, User:Larshei asked about an issue with the timeline at Foo Fighters:
User:John of Reading's edit did seem to fix the problem. But strangely, the issue has now reappeared, even though there have only been two edits since: this edit to a completely different section which did not reintroduce the issue, and then this edit, which did nothing but revert the previous one, bringing the page back to exactly how it was after John of Reading's "fix edit" - but somehow reintroduced the issue! Can anyone figure out what's going on here? -Elmer Clark (talk) 22:53, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
- The timeline feature is known to sometimes produce images with such diagonal bars. If you change anything which affects the image then a new image is generated, usually without the error. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:16, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Elmer Clark and PrimeHunter: I did a purge action on the page (essentially it's invoking the URL https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Foo_Fighters&action=purge which is available as 'purge', or '*', along the 'edit this page', 'history' end 'watch' links), and it seems to have helped for me. --CiaPan (talk) 06:49, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah that seems to have worked, thanks. I can't say I'm confident it won't randomly appear again though. -Elmer Clark (talk) 20:10, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Elmer Clark: Yes, possibly it will, as PrimeHunter says it's a known bug (or feature) of a timeline feature. Hopefully purging will turn out a simpler and more reliable method of fixing things than random edits. :) --CiaPan (talk) 21:30, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
my new page was declined: this was not communicated to me and I do not understand why
Hello Wikipedia,
I submitted a new page for review a few weeks ago. According to a third party (who wanted me to PAY HER to 'fix' the page, Tamsin Kelly), the page was declined. Is this true? This has not been communicated to me. and if it has been declined, how to I find out why. The page is about an academic here in The Netherlands (Utrecht University) with international students which is why it needs to be published in the English language Wikipedia. The academic's name is <EGJWENNEKES>. Please help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lagouttenoire (talk • contribs) 09:38, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- The fact that the submission was declined, and the reasons, were clearly explained to you both on the draft page and on your user talk page. The words in blue in the messages are wikilinks to further information if you need it. --David Biddulph (talk) 09:47, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- This refers to Draft:Emile Wennekes which has as far as I can see no real references at all. Britmax (talk) 09:51, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Draft:Emile Wennekes was declined because it had no sources at all. Please read WP:Referencing for beginners. Please note that editors here are volunteers, and will not ask for payment. Dbfirs 09:53, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

Text Error: David Stuart Clarke
Hi - There is text on Wikipedia’s content page for David Stuart Clarke the prior chairman of an Australian investment bank (Macquarie Bank) suggesting he was involved in a major European fraud. This appears to be an error and should be corrected.

My wikipedia page
Hello
I tried to upload an author photo of myself, but couldn't follow all the questions, as it was my own photo, but it seems that the attempt has ended up being rejected because Wikipedia thinks the photo copywrite belongs to someone else, which it doesn't. Anyway, I don't mind not having the photo up. But the problem now is that my page (Rosetta Allan) has a warning up that someone may have put information up for payment. Which isn't true. Can someone look into this for me? I'd really like this warning removed. I really appreciate your help on this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Poetryrose (talk • contribs) 10:20, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- It is not your page, but Wikipedia's page about you. Before doing any more editing to that page you must read WP:AUTOBIOG and WP:COI. Apart from removing minor inaccuracies, you should request changes on the pages talk page and allow a disinterested editor to asses the changes and implement them. Remember that any information you ask to be added must satisfy the WP:BLP policy and be quoted in a reliable third party source. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 10:47, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- Should also note that the copyright typically belongs to the photographer. Eagleash (talk) 14:36, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
I need help moving a page.
I got a message on my talk page saying that I need to fix my copy-and-paste move of Escape from Hell (2001 film) to Escape from Hell (2000 film). The reason I moved this page from 2001 to 2000 in the first place was because this movie came out in 2000, not ‘01. I tried to move the info from the 2000 “copy-and-pasted” page I made back to the 2001 page I turned into a redirect, and then move it back to the 2000 page with the move tool. This didn’t work however, and I need help.
- Stinkyjaden (talk) 14:47, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Stinkyjaden
- Oh dear, Stinkyjaden. You appear to be right about the year, but the way to move an article to a different title is to Move it - copy and paste is rarely appropriate within Wikipedia. I think you realised this, and tried to go back; but only an admin can move a page over a redirect. Don't worry about making mistakes: they're always reparable, and most people won't criticise you for honest mistakes.
- On the other hand, the article is probably going to be deleted, because it does not cite any reliable independent sources (neither iMDB - user generated - nor commercial sites are generally regarded as reliable). Unless somebody can find and cite some reliable published sources about the film, wholly independent of the films producers and cast, then it is impossible to write an acceptable article about it, because it will fail NFILM notability. --ColinFine (talk) 15:24, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- I have made a history merge to credit Stinkyjaden in the page history for edits made after the copy-paste move. I have not evaluated whether the article should be deleted. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:01, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help. I’ll do my very best to find some sources covering this movie. I will say this, the link I referenced (ReelChristian.com) is the official site for the film company that made Escape from Hell.
- - Stinkyjaden (talk) 16:41, 7 February 2019 (UTC)Stinkyjaden
- Hi, Stinkyjaden .Please note that the film company's site should be considered a WP:PRIMARY source. Although it surely provides the most accurate and complete data about the cast, plot, timeline etc., it will probably not count as a third-party, independent source for artistic, cultural and social impact of the movie. And independent, reliable sources about the reception and impact are required to show the movie's notability. --CiaPan (talk) 17:10, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- In general, Stinkyjaden, Wikipedia is simply not interested in what anybody says about their own film (or themselves, or their relatives, or their company, or their band, etc). It is only interested in what people unconnected with the subject have chosen to publish about it - and if nobody independent has done so, then neither will Wikipedia. --ColinFine (talk) 17:40, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

Complaint
I need to make a complaint about another Wikipedia user. I could not find an appropriate form in the Contact Page or anywhere else listed on the main page. Where do I go?118.209.164.30 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 06:49, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
- Here is the policy on that: Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. It starts with talking to the other editor at their talkpage or a relevant article-talkpage, and goes on from there. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:27, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
- "The user known by the aliases Wickwack, Ratbone, Keit, Floda, who edits from a dynamic IP address, is indefinitely banned from contributing to discussions at Wikipedia:Reference desk and Wikipedia talk:Reference desk and all subpages thereof. They are banned regardless of whichever alias they use, or even if they stop using aliases altogether, whether it be one of the above, or another, enforceable by reverting their contributions to the above discussion pages. The ban may be appealed after 6 months."
- You were topic banned from the reference desk for good reasons. See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive249#WP:GAME violations at Ref Desks using multiple identities from multiple IP addresses. --Guy Macon (talk) 10:05, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
- This is disappointing. Firstly, I am not Wickwack, Ratbone, Keit, or Floda. I have never posted nor edited anything with those names. Secondly, I have no control over my IP address. It is set by my internet service provider (incidentally, the link provided above identifies Wickwack et al's ISP as Telstra. My ISP is not Telstra), who changes it on a weekly basis. 118.209.164.30 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 10:32, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
Kosher to hire help to put my original content on Wikipedia?
