== Scope == |
|||
This WikiProject aims to organise, expand and improve all Wikipedia's articles on areas or subjects relating to computing technology. We have a very broad scope, so we hope to collaborate and communicate with other Wikiprojects that overlap our domain (for instance Wikipedia:WikiProject Cryptography). |
|||
|

Initial interests are to help with achieving consensus on articles. |

=== Pseudocode === |
|||
In 2004 there was discussion of using a consistent pseudocode for programming examples, at various times during the discussion either replacing or supplementing real code or varied pseudocode styles. The vast majority of comments opposed a single required standard and supported a range of languages and styles, to better illustrate the range in the field. The entirely optional proposed Wikicode is available for use for anyone who wishes to use it, but replacement of real code or varied pseudocode should generally be avoided. Similarly, replacement of Wikicode should also be avoided, unless doing so adds value, since it is itself a useful language example. |

Wikipedia:WikiProject Computing
Hello and welcome to the WikiProject Computing page! Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to areas or subjects relating to computers, computing and information technology. The goal of this WikiProject is to improve the quality and quantity of information about computing technology available on Wikipedia. That's all. Join us, Wikipedians!
Scope and Goals
This WikiProject aims to organise, expand and improve all Wikipedia's articles on areas or subjects relating to computers, computing, and information technology. We have a very broad scope, so we hope to collaborate and communicate with other Wikiprojects that overlap our domain.
Our scope includes:
1. History of computing
2. Computer science and computer programming
3. Networking and the Internet
4. Server technology
5. Databases
6. Hardware
7. Computer security
8. Software
9. Operating systems
Our goal is to produce detailed, well written and NPOV articles on all topics related to computers.

Departments
Assessment
The assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's computing articles. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.
The ratings are done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the WikiProject Computing project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in a set of categories that serves as the basis for an automatically generated worklist.
Collaboration
The project's Collaboration department seeks to identify particular articles that would benefit from a significant collaborative effort. A single article is selected as the focus, and the project attempts to improve it, potentially to featured article standards. Users can also nominate articles for future collaboration.
Outreach
The outreach department acts as the project's central point of coordination for recruiting new members and maintaining the interest of current participants. Its primary activity is the production of monthly project newsletters. A number of additional programs are either underway or being planned.
Peer review
The peer review department conducts peer reviews of articles on request; this helps to obtain ideas for further improvement by having contributors who may not have previously worked on particular articles examine them. Project members are invited to submit articles to the department in lieu of using the generic peer review process.
The selected article from the Information technology portal:
Participants
- Add yourself to the project by inserting an entry into the chronologically ordered list below.
- Use five tilde signs so that it is just a timestamp. The standard signature with four tilde signs will just duplicate your name.
my_user_name
~~~~~
- Add the
User WP COMP
userbox to your user page to declare your membership.
|
- Maybe add a top icon as well — add Computing topicon anywhere in your user page.
Templates
Templates are pages used to insert content onto pages, such as boilerplate text, infoboxes, and navigation boxes. Transclusion is the process for referring to a template from another page.
This page documents the templates related to WikiProject Computing and related projects.
Article assessment and project identification
Computing NA‑class | |||||||
|
- For general computing articles, place
on article talk pages within the scope of this WikiProject.
The project has a number of task forces. Please use one of the following variants if applicable.
- Hardware -
- Networking -
- Early computers -
There are a number of projects closely related to WikiProject Computing. Articles in these projects are automatically added as to WikiProject Computing. As an alternate to using the project identification templates associated with those projects, association with these projects can be indicated through optional parameters to WikiProject Computing.
- Amiga -
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer science -
- Software -
- Websites -
- Computer security -
- Java -
- RISC OS -
This is especially useful when an article is a member of more than one of the associated Wikiprojects or task forces: a single WikiProject Computing instance with multiple optional parameters can declare all project and task force affiliations.
