Revision as of 00:15, 27 December 2009
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | |
---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism. Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Current requests for protection
Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Urban Meyer (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary semi-protection IP-based BLP vandalism, other non-construtive edits. Grsz11 00:03, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protect. High level of IP vandalism. As the article is about a highly notorious celebrity, I would like to request for protection extending for an indefinite period. Impuissant (talk) 23:30, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Current requests for unprotection
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Fulfilled/denied requests
Sultanate of Rûm (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Continued disruptive IP editing dating back several months, including removal of tags, removal of links to other language wikis, and insertion of unverified/false information against talkpage consensus. Kafka Liz (talk) 15:59, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of ten days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. — Kralizec! (talk) 17:24, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
Snowflake (albino gorilla) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Unprotect. No rationale for continued protection (editwarring has long since ceased at this stable article), but it needs to be moved, per WP:NC/WP:DAB, as the name is an excessive disambiguation (Snowflake (gorilla) will do). User:SMcCandlish/Sig 05:34, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
- Declined, please discuss this on the article talk page, perhaps using the requested move template. You're trying to overturn a consensus. tedder (talk) 06:19, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
- Fine, I will. Actually, I take that back; I'll put it up for uncontroversial RM. But a) this should still be unprotected, as the dispute for which it was protected has long since been settled, and WP does not indef-protect articles without very good reasons; and b) your summary of this situation is not actually correct, as I am not in any way trying to "overturn a consensus". The consensus was to refer to the gorilla as "Snowflake" rather than either of his better-known non-English names, because this is English Wikipedia. That name incidentally had to be disambiguated, as the proponents noted (including a disambiguator in the proposed new name). No one in that discussion offered any opinion at all as to whether "(albino gorilla)" was a proper disambiguator. (It isn't, but no one noticed this, evidently.) The discussion was only about which name to use for the gorilla. Two unrelated issues entirely. Fixing this one just happens to be thwarted by a lock that should have expired by now and which had nothing to do with the needed fix. And it is a needed fix, clearly mandated by naming conventions and not a matter of opinion: we do not disambiguate further than necessary, e.g. "John G. Smith (painter)" not "John G. Smith (oil painter)" or "John G. Smith (Canadian painter)", unless there are two John G. Smith painters. By way of analogy, a typo or other problem can be fixed without seeking consensus to do so even if it is in a block of text that was included in the article rather than excluded after a protracted editwar over its potential inclusion. That is, not everything peripherally to do with something once argued about necessarily has anything to do with that argument, and no content once added is immune from subsequent editing. All of that aside, this should still be unprotected on the basis of point a), and on the further basis that the naming dispute actually settled itself quite amicably. The protection never should have outlasted the rename discussion which resolved itself nearly four months ago. PS: Merry Christmas. :-) User:SMcCandlish/Sig 08:07, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection, This page is under constant edit warring from IP users, mainly regarding the Infobox. This page was protected several times for a temporary matter. Unfortunately this doesn't resolve the issue. LouriePieterse 12:21, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Will comment about this at WP:AN. Or maybe not. No need to draw more attention to it than necessary. ≈ Chamal talk ☃ 13:18, 26 December 2009 (UTC)- Yes indeed, many thanks Chamel, it is a little bit preemptive but imo a good idea, thank you. Off2riorob (talk) 13:25, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Melody Gardot (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Request for temporary semi-protection. An anonym user with different IP addresses seems to revert all edits related to the section Backing band, because the section is "inaccurate and irrelevant" and the removal is apparently requested by a "representative of [the] artist". In my opinion, the user's claims are not valid and he did not add anything to back them up.—Totie (talk) 02:44, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Super Jeopardy! (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protect Excessive vandalism. One IP user constantly removes the 1990 from the debut date, and it is supposed to be there for consistency. WikiLubber (talk) 01:40, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Mohamed Al-Fayed (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary semi-protection vandalism, It looks like the same IP vandal as before is back, trying to insert inaccuracies by changing Fayed's religion to Jewish and also fiddling with other details. DanielRigal (talk) 00:50, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

The End of Time (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protect. Rusty just pulled the mother of cliffhangers. Seeing as people have reacted to the past three cliffhangers, if it hasn't received vandalism, it will very soon. Sceptre (talk) 19:00, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
- Declined – Pages are not protected preemptively. Being edited enthusiastically, but no evidence of significant vandalism from my spot-check of edits. tedder (talk) 22:41, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
