"Velvet Goldmine" is a song by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. Originally recorded on 11 November 1971 during the sessions for his 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars,[1] the song was left off the album and subsequently released as a B-side (along with "Changes") of the UK re-release of "Space Oddity" in 1975.[2]
Velvet Goldmine was originally named "He's a Goldmine" and is considered a mid-tempo rock song containing Mick Ronson's Les Paul signature guitar licks.[2] Bowie has stated he feels the song is "very David Bowie".
