Vartan is the name of an Italian comic book published for 200 issues between 1969 and 1977 by Furio Viano. Its genre was ostensibly that of the 'Western' but its main concern was with the erotic adventures of its heroine.
The series was created and drawn by Sandro Angiolini (1920-1985), whose stylish pen strokes lent the comic a degree of sophistication it would otherwise have lacked.
Vartan is one of many such characters from the Italian 'fumetti' tradition. Other female figures from the same era, and with similarly erotic preoccupations, include Zora la Vampira, Maghella, Biancaneve, Lucifera, Jacula and Sukia.
