Hard disk drive
By reverting this contrib with the argument of WP:EV is not correct. Evanescence are the first external drives using the IDE interface. The contrib covers still the historical first and the present configurations. --Hans Haase (有问题吗) 17:11, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
- What? That diagram doesn't show anything like that. About the only thing it does show is that there's more than one way to power a hard drive, but this is hardly an encyclopedia-worthy observation. --Wtshymanski (talk) 17:14, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
- No, please take a closer view. It shows three typical configurations of external drives. You even can buy an empty case with controller and USB cable for installing any drive matching interface, size, and maximum supported capacity. Commons has more pictures, showing it clearly. See also specification of empty external cases. There are also datasheets of controllers avail. --Hans Haase (有问题吗) 18:08, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
- Again, far too much fine ephemeral detail for an encyclopedia article that should be a concise overview of the most important principles of the topic. --Wtshymanski (talk) 18:12, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
- And exactly that is it. It shows what dives are in those cases and what is inside this cases. --Hans Haase (有问题吗) 18:14, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
- This is an illustration of a sub-heading of an already overly long article. The automobile article doesn't contain pictures showing the difference between a blue car and a red car. --Wtshymanski (talk) 18:17, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
- Color of paint would be minor fact, differences in coating technology are relevant as diesel or gas engine in the vehicle. Here we have different voltages, supplies, chassis dimensions and interfaces. One picture to cover the whole history. Shot, highly informative and clear on the point. --Hans Haase (有问题吗) 18:34, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
- First, what the heck does WP:EV or the American rock band Evanescence have to do with any of this?

- Second, I tend to agree with Hans Haase. I think the diagram adds value. That being said, the diagram and the section it is in are seriously deficient in that they only cover USB, as if aSATA and Ethernet-connected NAS external hard drives don't exist. If we are going to have a section on external hard drives, it should cover all of the commonly-used interfaces. --Guy Macon (talk) 19:14, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
- Btw. in the German project, the external HDD got is own article. Maybe this would deflate the details a little bit. --Hans Haase (有问题吗) 19:33, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
