Historic images
Thanks for uploading some interesting historic images! If you haven't already, I suggest you check out Wikimedia Commons. For free licensed images (such as old public domain/US government images, etc) you can upload them directly there. Why? They will then be availible not only here on the English language Wikipedia, but also for Wikipedias in other languages, other Wikimedia projects, etc-- and putting them into any article here on the English language Wikipedia is still just as easy; do exactly the same as if it was uploaded here. Commons also has categories and galleries, allowing useful images to be found in multiple ways. Check it out, and let me know if I can be of help. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 06:22, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Trinity and Brixner
I just called up his daughter and asked her for information. I did that for about a dozen people so far. Its a lot easier than combing though archives to get a day and place of birth. Once you have the info its easier to confirm with a Google search, no one has refused to talk yet. I can't even get my own family members to cooperate on family history, so its nice when others do it. Have you ever cold called someone? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 17:27, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Shiprock
Hi Tillman,
I have been editing parts of the Shiprock article but think it needs more input from people better informed than I am. Should the article should be included in indigenous peoples of the americas? It misses any reference to pre-Navajo beliefs or Anasazi role. It could be barking up the wrong tree, but I am convinced there would be grounds for an unrecorded climb. You look like the correct person to point me to the correct person! That would be much appreciated. It looks like you have an awful lot on your wikiplate. Nice articles! And you did camp bird mine, too!? Diastar (talk) 22:22, 27 July 2008 (UTC)diastar
Thanks! I see you are way too occupied with way too much! But if you come across any experts that would be interested, please point them to Shiprock. And, it was me that dashed the dreams of rock climbers by finally finding a source that clearly states it is illegal. Still, I am convinced that that Anasazi could'uv if they wanted. BTY: there is an nice little book on the Bachelor Mine - so I will add an article soon enough. best. Diastar (talk) 01:05, 28 July 2008 (UTC)diastar

Planchas de Plata (etc)
Thanks for your additions to the mining articles. I have never been to Planchas de Plata myself. A friend and I made a half-hearted stab at it years ago, but we could not find our way over the dirt roads from Nogales. It would be fun to see it. Plazak (talk) 21:10, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:HPW8airliner.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the image description page. Out of my depth, pointers?
Hi. I'm an admin who volunteers at the copyright problems board. We've had two articles now on the desert Wahiba Sands, both of which were extensive copyright violations. Since it is obviously a notable feature, I've written a new infringement-free article, but my area is humanities. I'm hoping to find somebody who can review the article with an eye to seeing if I've completely muffed something (all my sources online) due to my lack of familiarity. I've selected you to ask because of your contributions to the template on deserts, which suggest that you might be able to help. :) If you don't have time or inclination, please let me know; I'll try to find somebody else. I'll be watching your page in case you have opportunity to reply. Thank you for any assistance or advice you may be able to offer. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:45, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I knew absolutely nothing about the Wahiba Sands before, and now know a little, so I'd say you did a good job. No obvious flubs in two readings -- though the "Geography" section might better be called "Geology"? HTH, and thanks for going above & beyond the call of duty. Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 22:22, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for your feedback. :) I'll modify the section header accordingly. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:58, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Great image uploading
Thanks for putting the new image in George Harrison. I had a look at what else you have done, and see that you have been responsible for tracking down and uploading some fine images. I would second the comment above that many of the images you upload would be useful at Commons, and that it would be helpful to upload new images there, and to seriously consider moving some of your existing 'pedia images over there. Though on Commons the images must be free use - usable by everyone, so more care needs to be exercised on what is allowable. Anyway - keep up the good work!
I've given you a Wiki award which you may display on your user page! SilkTork *YES! 14:22, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks (images)
Thanks for the kind words re image uploads -- glad you like them. Did you see File:Phallic-Head Plate, 1536 .jpg?
If you are so inclined, have a look at [1]]. Support welcome -- I don't know what his problem is.... Thanks, Pete Tillman (talk) 15:37, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- I assume his problem relates to Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria - read Wikipedia:Non-free content where it is placed in context. The image is a "non-free" one, so there has to be a good reason for using it. J Milburn appears to be challenging the image under the "significance" criteria. He offers a clue as to how to use the image - build a section in the article on Hayden's relationship with Fonda. Currently the relationship is mentioned only in passing, and so the significance of the image is not clear. SilkTork *YES! 17:27, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Wari
Tillman,
Is it possible for you to upload the picture “Wari tunic.jpg” to commons? Or are there problems with the copyrights outside the USA? I would like yo use the picture for the dutch wikipedia. See [[2]]Technische Fred (talk) 11:58, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if this sort of file is acceptable for commons, as it's PD under a US court decision: see [3]. If you think its OK, please feel free to copy it to commons. Beautiful piece, isn't it? Best regards, Pete Tillman (talk) 17:57, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Marrella
Hi, your crop of File:Marella.png removed the scale. I'd be grateful if you would either add a scale bar to the new image, or restore the original file. Thanks, Martin (Smith609 – Talk) 17:25, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- Is the scale in centimeters? What if I add to the legend, "width of image = 2 (or whatever) cm"? I thought the scale & table detracted from the nice photo of the critter. Best, Pete Tillman (talk) 18:19, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

welcome to NRHP!
Hey, glad to see you joined up at wp:NRHP. Welcome, from a fellow member. Please feel free to post any questions or comments at the talk page, shortcut wt:NRHP. Also, please feel free to post any new articles that you create, at the New Articles box on the main page, just add your new article name there. That tends to attract some helpful others' attention. Unfortunately i am not local to Yavapai, but i visited there with the Don Quixotic purpose of capturing all of its NRHP sites for wikipedia listing with pics. It turns out Yavapai has too many, too widely scattered sites for me to get to all of them. I actually wandered around in a fog one morning early at the top of Mingus mountain, and could not find the lookout towers. Also i trekked far into Agua Caliente or something like that, to find a solitary Ranger station. Fun, and got it, but cost half a day, and almost lost my car in a puddle. You need a jeep to get to some of these Ranger stations, lookouts, and bridges! And then i didn't post my pics and start articles right away, so i am further afraid i will not be able to match up my pics to the correct NRHP sites. Please feel free to start up any new articles out of redlinks the National Register of Historic Places listings in Yavapai County, Arizona list article. If you would please make any edit at the list-article, like beginning a description, then I will notice it off my watchlist and know to come visit the new article. There are useful tools like an NRHP infobox generator which I can tell you about later. Really glad you are on board! Cheers, doncram (talk) 00:23, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Yavapai County
Thanks for the new pictures! Since it's finally clear to everyone (admitting the possibility that it was clear to everyone else a good while ago) that it's only Black Canyon City, a few questions: (1) Any idea if the boundary increase simply included a location change? I think this happens sometimes.
- I think it was just an expansion -- there are archaeol, sites on the Forest Service lands adjacent, and some of the BLM land that wasn't included in AFNM
(2) Did you get any pictures when you were out there?
- Sorry, no -- I'm not much of a photographer :-[
(3) Since you say that the book includes a description, could you post somewhat of the description, referencing the book? We don't always leave "Address Restricted" as restricted, if we have a reliable source for the information, although it's good to note in the citation that the NRIS lists it as restricted. Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 12:01, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
- Sure. Actually, I've been thinking I should start the Perry Mesa Archaeoligical District article, and that would be a logical place. Do you have an URL for the NRHP declarations for there? Best, Pete Tillman (talk) 18:51, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Hopi mural
I like the Hopi mural pic you added to Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Editor help. And glad there's a suggestion therefore that someone reads there....
Just a note/question: it's a pic of an artwork, and as such i am not sure about its copyright for use in wikipedia. The photograph, which the description says is a photo by a Fed employee, is not itself copyrighted. But art works are different, there are much tougher rules about these. In general you cannot take pics of any modern art sculptures, even in public places, and upload them to wikipedia. I did just recently participate in wp:Wikipedia Loves Art, an event in cooperation with museums in which people went and took pics of old art in museums that is public domain, but i thought the cutoff was 1927 or older, or something like that. I am not going to go out of my way about this one, further complicated by the fact it is Federal pic, but perhaps you should look into the art copyright stuff, as someone else may bring it up. Really neat mural, actually, and Mary Jane Colter sure did good work with the series of compatible structures along the South Rim. doncram (talk) 18:35, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
- Heh. I just got into this over at Talk:Rhyolite, Nevada re Commons:Freedom of panorama -- you're right, it's messy. Kabootie was a sort-of Federal employee then, and it is an official NPS photo. Still, maybe not the best choice for an example... Maybe substitute File:Lace House.jpg, from HABS?? Assuming it's NRHP-listed, can't imagine not. Great building. Haven't been back there since the casinos came in. They kinda made a mess at Cripple Creek. Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 18:53, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, okay, yes it's about panoramas and all that. Just browsed the wikipedia loves art stuff, they're announcing winners in some areas but not the one i participated in yet. It seems the cutoff for most purposes in that event was 1927. I like the Lace House pic though, neat looking. As you must know, anything in HABS is public domain, the HABS project was specifically set up that way, unlike some other NPS website photos which may in fact be copyrighted. Nice job in fully describing that HABS pic in your upload. I've seen others where photographer and date are not credited, even though available somewhere. User:KudzuVine has done a lot of good uploading of HABS pics too, many showing in List of NHLs in SC for example. doncram (talk) 19:18, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
- Lace House is probably in the Central City-Black Hawk Historic District, but rather than find out for sure, I'll plug in this nice HAER photo: File:CoolidgeDam.jpg. --Pete Tillman (talk) 20:36, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
ZCTA
Thanks for adding the ZCTA populations! Just one note — the official name is "ZIP Code Tabulation Area", not "Zip Code Tabulation Area". Also, could you add sources for the ZIP codes for the communities? If my request isn't clear, look at what I did to Arivaca. Nyttend (talk) 14:42, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. Do you really think we need to cite ZIP codes? That seems a bit like citing county or state locations. Best, Pete Tillman (talk) 14:48, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
- Didn't see your reply until now on this...yes, just like anything else. We cite county/state with GNIS or Census Bureau information, and when we're dealing with ZCTAs, it's more important, because the Census Bureau data doesn't tell you what ZIP code goes with what community. Nyttend (talk) 11:24, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. Yes, it is a bit of a slog figuring out what area a ZCTA really covers. --Pete Tillman (talk) 16:36, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I have not forgotten
about this. I still have much to complete on the ArbCom case but I needed a break and have been attending to some other matters for a bit.
Looking over the page you pointed to it seems that it may have achieved some amount of a lull, or not? I can see some problems like Monbiot is given too much space and in multiple places. Every other thing is labeled as being "conservative" which is rather silly. The lead summarizes the points of the critics but there is no balancing summary of the supporters. Etc.
If things are precariously stable right now I don't want to come in like a bull in a china shop and upset the whole thing. So I am asking you if you think I should dive in or let the dust settle for a while before attempting some corrective edits? Your thoughts? --GoRight (talk) 19:48, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- The page does seems to have reached a lull -- on my part, because of fatigue.
- You've identified some of the weak points. The biggie (in my view) is that the Other Side has painted the author as a fool and a buffoon. Which clearly isn't the case, though he does have a confrontational style, and was (app.) careless in parts of the book. I'm not quite sure how to fix it. As you probably saw on Talk, he has some respectable supporters, but their remarks are only available on blogs, not (so far) RS's. I'm not very hopeful we'll get consensus to use Stockwell. I'm hoping some of this will be picked up in the press, and hence be usable as RS'd.
- So use your judgment. Maybe start with the Monbiot duplicate? Alex's rv of some of the silly political labels has stood so far, which is hopeful. Pull some more?
- Good luck on the ArbCom thing. Yuk. Kind regards, Pete Tillman (talk) 21:11, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Standing Offer/Request
Given our past interactions on various topics I thought I would make the following offer.
If you ever have something you want me to offer an opinion on or that you feel I might personally be interested in anywhere on wikipedia, its talk pages, or within any of the official forums such as noticeboards, RfCs, RfAs, and the like, please contact me directly on my talk page and feel free to reference this standing request. I trust your judgment in deciding which topics might be of interest to me, and please keep me informed of any topics in general as well as items specifically involving you personally.
Here, let me formally make the unsolicited request. Please make a note of it. --GoRight (talk) 03:27, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:Artillery peak.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Artillery peak.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 17:46, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:BakersfieldDepot.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:BakersfieldDepot.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:19, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

High Road to Taos
Thanks for the input; I don't remember what exactly the problem was, but there was somewhat on these articles about them being along this road — in the introduction — and everything was unsourced. Reading the article on the High Road, I really wasn't sure whether it were serious or not, and if it were serious, whether it were significant; after all, the creator put it in a villages category and tried to put it on a county template, so I didn't know if it were perhaps exaggerated well past reality. - If you're going to keep this image, would you please reverse it. It appears that it has been scanned in as a mirror image since the Casino would not be on that side of the bay. Thank you!--38.98.36.18 (talk) 19:49, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- Do you know how to do that? I don't. Thanks, Pete Tillman (talk) 19:59, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- There are two ways that you can tell that the image is reversed. First, the bay is oriented the wrong way. If you are looking at the Casino from the opposite side of the bay, the ocean should be on the right side of the photo. Secondly, if you look at the original slide from the url above, you can see that the text is reversed. I went ahead and changed it already, though someone with better photo editing skills might be able to do a better job than I did.--mcd51 (talk) 04:08, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! It is a nice photo -- I appreciate the help, as I am more or less clueless re digital photo editing. Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 04:11, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Ian Plimer. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. Verbal chat 20:28, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
