GANs, FLCs, FACs for review

Thank you for copyediting and reorganising Witch-hunts in Nepal during the DYK process. It was finally featured on the main page yesterday and got almost 10,000 views! And one thank you on the talk page from Ben. Thank you very much ![]() |

- Haha! Indeed, you did! Your edits were a part of improvement efforts from multiple editors during the final stages of the process (the kind of improvements that I simply couldn't notice were needed, despite best efforts from Drmies in guiding me). Since the article normally gets at best one other editor a month aside from me, I naturally assumed you got there from DYK as well

Hi! I undertook a GA review of Tiberius (son of Heraclius) which ended with me extensively expanding the article. I think it's ready now but I also think it would be weird for me to pass it at this point, being so involved in the writing. Thanks for your GA feedback on this article, and a bunch of my others. This happens to be my favorite article that I've written so far, and am planning to run it through the FAC gauntlet sometime soon. If you're interested in taking it on, I'd be thrilled to get a re-read of the article from the perspective of a potential FA reviewer that I am likely to encounter, and instead of the somewhat lenient GA criteria that you've been using, review it using the "brilliant prose" standard that once defined a featured article around here, plus any other issues you think I'd run into at FAC. You can post comments at the article, here, or on my talkpage; I of course have all of them watchlisted. I'm happy to reciprocate. Thanks - RecycledPixels (talk) 07:51, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
- Oh yeah... praise/insults/feedback/comments from talk page stalkers is also quite welcome as well. RecycledPixels (talk) 07:57, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
- RecycledPixels I would be honoured to do that. If I'm honest, I take the GA criteria with a pinch of salt, and usually apply something like an A-grade quality threshold to my reviews, so it's already going to be close to FA for me, but I'll definitely take another look being extra picky. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 17:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
Hi there TRM; thanks again for taking the time to review this article at GAN! It's currently at FAC, and I wonder if you might be interested in weighing in there? I would appreciate it, especially as the nomination is still unreviewed, but no worries if you don't have the time (or simply have better things to do)! Thanks, —Usernameunique (talk) 01:24, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- Usernameunique I'll happily try to do that in due course, it would be a pleasure to continue to help great editors push great articles to greater heights. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 17:51, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
- Many thanks, TRM! While we're on the topic of greatness, I'm truly impressed by (not to mention appreciative of) your seemingly inexhaustible help in reviewing. Congrats on the forthcoming bling, it is very much deserved. --Usernameunique (talk)
- Thanks for the review! Much appreciated, and well timed, too—as you said, I was getting a bit concerned about it slipping through the cracks. —Usernameunique (talk) 22:11, 11 October 2019 (UTC)
- Usernameunique I just saw this was closed. FAC is officially dead I'm afraid. Sorry it didn't get more interest. I think most people here are just interested in policing the place, snitching on each other and generally making the place a complete clusterfuck. Sadly that means content editors like you and your articles go without the required attention. A real embarrassment. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 19:23, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note, TRM. It's somewhat disappointing, to be sure, although I can understand that it's not the most exciting article that I've ever brought to FAC. (Not to say that our man Peter was any less interesting than some fragmentary pieces of rusted metal.) Hopefully the second time around, once I renominate it, will be more productive. --Usernameunique (talk) 05:37, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

GAN or FAC?
Hi TRM! Thanks for all your help. I've written 1985 World Snooker Championship recently, but I was wondering if I should take it through GAN, or straight to FAC? I'd like to get points for the end of the Wikicup, so I don't know if I could get it promoted by the end of the month. Is this a doable thing? Either way, I'd love your input on the article at either GAN or FAC. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 08:35, 4 October 2019 (UTC)

- Lee Vilenski sorry, I've been hit-and-miss on Wikipedia lately, for a couple of reasons. Perhaps we can work on the 1985 title article in due course when I find my mojo. I'm disappointed that it was closed out so quickly but perhaps take Baggins' comments onboard, and make sure the other FA you did is considered too. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 19:25, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- No problem. It'll get there, I'll just take it through GAN now I've got more time on my hands and I'm not worried about points or anything. I think the 2019 one is just looking for a closure, as I can't imagine it doesn't have enough support at this point. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:28, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

I was thinking of taking this to GA, is it a good candidate and what should I start with (I'm aware of the criteria but I'm just looking at broad edges to start on)? Thanks a lot. --qedk (t 桜 c) 15:22, 11 October 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, that's a fine candidate. At a first look I'd try to reduce the large number of small sections, and I'd look to find something to illustrate the article. The referencing (at a superficial glance) looks okay, and it seems to cover the subject. I'd be happy to review it for you if you so wished. GA Reviews
Hello again.
You previously reviewed an article I nominated for GA status, (Felicity Smoak (Arrowverse). Your review was exceptionally thorough, and I found it immensely helpful in pointing out errors and issues I would not have thought of. Was very pleased to have my first DYK on the front page from the article! I have nominated a couple of episode articles for GA, and I wondered if you would be able to take a look, if you had time? One is more thorough than the other, and I am not 100% sure whether they qualify, but I would really value any input you could give. The noms are Green Arrow (Arrow episode) and The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. AutumnKing (talk) 13:50, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for your participation in the September 2019 GA Backlog drive. Your 53 reviews made a difference, as did your willingness to review particularly old nominations. Your 53 reviews were the most done by any editor and represent over a quarter of all reviews done during the backlog drive. I'm not one for exclamations but to that I can only say, "WOW!" Looks like you guys are having a bit of a wobble at the top... are they playing badly, or just got unlucky in a couple of games? Coventry finally got a win again, against high-flying Fleetwood (!) after sliding down for four games... it's a tough league though, no easy matches. — Amakuru (talk) 23:04, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
- Dreadful, simply dreadful for the last two games. Like the form has dropped off a cliff. A couple of injuries and we're playing like a clueless bunch of strangers... Tsk. Still, a game in hand and I'm off to see us against Southend on Saturday (I went last night too, I'd sooner forget it...) Fingers crossed. I'm glad to see Fleetwood getting bashed, they didn't offer much when we played them at their place a took all three points. And yes, I'd noticed Cov on the slide after going unbeaten for so long (like us...) Tight league. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 07:26, 24 October 2019 (UTC)
- Their confidence is probably still brittle from last season. Another run of form will probably sort it for the season, even if it starts scratchily. You're too good for League 1. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 08:26, 24 October 2019 (UTC)
- True, nobody likes to see the great clubs of yesteryear struggling. It can be hard to turn around after a tough relegation season, but Ipswich started very strongly so can retain some optimism. — Amakuru (talk) 13:34, 24 October 2019 (UTC)
- Could always be worse. We're three relegations in six seasons. The mess in the FA cup causing all sorts of issues. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:59, 24 October 2019 (UTC)
- Honestly, I looked at the fixture list, and we're next up in the league against Rochdale A.F.C. If we can't beat teams like Rochdale, what hope is left? The game at Roots Hall was abject but at least we did the job, at a canter. It was also great to see Sol Campbell ("...is a Blue... he hates Norwich" even though he's not and he probably doesn't) and the ITFC legend Hermann Hreiðarsson (who most definitely is a Blue and hopefully does still hate the budgies). I didn't quite get eyes on Andy Cole but I think he was there somewhere.... The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 19:32, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

- TRM, I apologize for calling you a jerk. It was not my intention. My intention was to call out your behavior, and clearly it felt to you like I was attacking you as a person rather than criticizing your behavior. I sincerely apologize; I do not think you are a jerk. I think you are a person whose contributions I value highly, and I think a lot of people here feel the same way. I will do my best not to use that language again, and I thank you for calling to my attention that just because I perceive a difference in criticizing behavior versus criticizing the person, not everyone does. --valereee (talk) 21:02, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- I know you're sorry for being called out as an admin gaming NPA. And I know you're sorry enough to use debating school arguments to justify your use of your language and gaming of the system. After all, no-one likes being caught. The real problem here is the failure to acknowledge that absolutely everything I said was correct. That something that was supposedly ready for the main page had three issues. Then after that it had three more issues. Out of eight. Once we get to a place where we can be honest about this sort of thing, I'm content to continue the discussion. In the meantime, all I'm seeing is someone forcing pretending that what they did was wrong when they think it was right, and it was absolutely not right, not for one second, not one iota. I was enjoying Wikipedia for the first time in quite some time, and then you came along and shat on it. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 21:17, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

- Indeed. But valereee's dig at me is why I'm myself despairing of Wikipedia and currently disinterested. Hi TRM, I'm not sure if you're still open to reviewing requests but Ninian Park needs an extra set of eyes to get over the line at FAC. If you have the time to take a look, it would be much appreciated, cheers. Kosack (talk) 18:15, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

- My favourite saying. When, as a 14-year-old cadet, somewhere up your boulevard, Bettys-Co-ED, we were lost in fog. Our teacher was lost in the same fog. "Blind leading the blind" called out our senior cadet. Never saw him again. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 22:15, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

- Good luck; I've already received one non-answer from someone who considered it more important to pontificate over my question rather than actually answer the bloody thing. We have a good set of candidates this time round and you'll only strengthen that. CassiantoTalk 21:01, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about that Cass, but thanks anyway. There comes a point when someone needs to offer a genuine link between the "HAVES" (Arbs, admins, knobs) and the "HAVE NOTS" (content contributors). I'll always try to fight that fight in any forum. Easy to forget why we're all here. Cheers for your note! The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 21:03, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

Query regarding FL
Hello! I am reaching out to you because of your extensive experience with FLs. I am thinking of creating a list of instances of President's rule as the number is quite large (100+) and I believe that a separate list is justified. I wanted to know your opinion regarding whether such a list would be able to satisfy the 3(c) of the WP:FLCR (especially the part "could not reasonably be included as part of a related article") or not. Thanks. Bharatiya29 15:21, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
arbcom
You don't know me, but we have had minor skirmishes in the past. However brash your approach (I'm no angel), and maybe you pick the wrong targets in a minority of instances, I have respect for the necessary, thankless, drudgery, work you do here in holding standards, and will be supporting. Just don't get too disillusioned if it doesn't work out; we badly need no nonsense coalface editors like you, Nikki, Fram, and back in the day, Sandy. Ceoil (talk) 21:11, 16 November 2019 (UTC)
- Ceoil thank you for your kind note. I won't be disillusioned in the slightest, I'm fully aware that there are more people here who would much rather wish me permanently removed, but very few of them pay real attention. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 21:02, 17 November 2019 (UTC)
- I know what you mean. Tidying up the main page is often left as "something we should really do in the future" by the powers that be, which is why we are where we are; dependent of a small number of key people. Hense is the road to burnout, frustration and warnings from paid editors. Ceoil (talk) 21:09, 17 November 2019 (UTC)
Question from Purplebackpack89
The question at Wikipedia:Arbitration_Committee_Elections_December_2019/Candidates/The_Rambling_Man/Questions#Questions_from_User:Purplebackpack89 appears to be a mixture of baiting, making a statement and asking a "do you beat your wife" question. I have left the user a comment on their talk page. In your shoes, I would decline to answer such a question. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 10:46, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks for the note. I've answered the questions because they seem very reasonable to me, although none of it have I ever made secret. Indeed I think I covered most of it in the nomination statement so it's there for everyone to see. It's not like I've been banned from Wikipedia or anything. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 11:44, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
- Fair enough. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 11:48, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
- I like your answer quite a bit. Perhaps Purplebackpack89's still bothered about your clash a little over 8 years ago on the Simple English Wikipedia, for which he is still banned. Best, Vermont (talk) 11:56, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
- Cheers. It's a shame he's going for such overt polemic posts on his talkpage too, but I guess when TRM's the target, all bets are off! The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 12:02, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

Rhetoric
"There's no link, so using Wikipedia voice to somehow even allude to a one is insulting in extremis."
- – Huh?
What happened to the 'mellow' TRM? – Sca (talk) 14:31, 19 November 2019 (UTC)- That's fine. It would be insulting to readers for an encyclopedia to allege some kind of a causal link between three completely unrelated events, their own commonality being a rough location. The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 19:47, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
- If it were three in a row for the Golden State, we might consider suggesting California is especially dangerous, but an hour or so before Fresno, a house on Lawn Avenue was shot up by a getaway car, injuring four occupants. Lawn Avenue is on the West Side of Cleveland, on the inside of Ohio, which is more or less "the East" in America. East of the Midwest, anyway. So yeah, no chain, even if there are links.
- Does British English recognize "links" as a synonym for "greens" in a golf sense? If not, no pun intended. If so, I forget where I was going with this. Something about lawn darts, Garden State and the Bowling Green massacre?
- Whatever. What I came here to regret to inform you is your theory about Americanism corrupting Wikipedia is dead: Canadian English has also adopted the term "watch party". It's only a matter of time before it infects the Old World, too. So much cooler-sounding than "telly period". Join us! InedibleHulk (talk) 04:12, November 20, 2019 (UTC)

Hello, I'm David Gerard. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, John Wark, but you didn't provide a reliable source.
