Speedy deletion of The Digital Group Inc.
Hi Sphilbrick,
You have deleted a page I have been working on - The Digital Group Inc. I haven’t finished working on this article and hence limited information may have been the reason why you deleted the page.
As per SiliconIndia Magazine, the organization I am writing about features in the list of India’s top 50 Small & Startup IT companies – 2013 to work with. It is companies like these that are leading the change in the Small and Startup sectors of India. This company in addition to achieving the numerous ISO certifications (as mentioned in the content) has also achieved the CMMi Development Level 5 and CMMi Services Level 5 certifications. It has also lead CSR activities such as a donation drive to support an NGO called Manavya (that works for HIV+ Women & Children), a donation drive for Nepal (when it was struck by 2 massive earthquakes in April 2015), a donation drive for the Chennai flood victims (December 2015), a tree plantation drive. I am genuinely trying to create awareness about the work done by such upcoming enterprises in Tier I cities of India and I feel Wikipedia can be an appropriate platform.
Request you to kindly restore the page so that this information can be added to the page. Please do let me know if there are other issues that I should pay attention to. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elise lowry (talk • contribs) 10:11, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

File:Tom Holland as Spider-Man.jpg
Hi Sphilbrick. Would you mind taking a look at this and see if any special needs to be done? This is similar to what we've discussed before at User talk:Sphilbrick/Archive 72#File:Logo of the Falcons of Mount Zawiya Brigade.png in that we have an editor uploading what they feel is an "updated version" of an exisitng (non-free) file, but which actually looks like a completely new file instead. As before, I can tag this with {{Orphaned non-free revisions}}, but not sure if there's a better way to handle this. I posted a note about this at User talk:Richiekim#Updating image files, but still wondering if there's a way to discourage this kind of thing from happening before it happens. Maybe there's a way to add a "warning" to the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard or the "Special:Upload file" that opens when an editor clicks on the "Upload a new version of this file" link on a file's page? -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:36, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
- This will require some thought, and research, and per my note at the top of the page, not something I can do easily at the moment. If you think this is timing critical, let me know and I may be able to find some time tomorrow evening, otherwise, I;ll try to address it when I am home.--S Philbrick(Talk) 00:58, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. No big hurry here. I saw you're busy in the real world at the moment, so apologize if it seemed like I was expecting immediate action. It was just something we had discussed before, so it's something I'm trying to pay more attention to when I come across it. FWIW, I posted somethig on the uploader's page and am waiting to see if they respond. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:29, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

- Hi again S Philbrick. I've found some more with the same issues at File:Power Rangers (2017 Official Theatrical Poster).png and File:Resident Evil The Final Chapter poster.jpg. These have have multiple different editors uploading completely different files as "updates". I'll post on their user talks, but maybe you can look at these too when you have the time. Thanks again and no rush. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:46, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know about my edit being incorrect
Sphilbrick,
I would like to know specifically what I did wrong. I thought that through my numerous revisions of Intelligence Quotient article I wanted to add to the Self Test of Intelligence article with respect to citations I had adequately covered all authors and supporters. The Self Test article was missing a link to IQ, whereas every other word introduced into that article was further referenced on Wikipedia I thought it only fitting to add the IQ reference. Let me know how I can accomplish this appropriately.
Regards, Reno RReali158 (talk) 16:41, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- @RReali158: I left a specific reason for the reversion of your edit on your talk page:
- User_talk:RReali158
- I also left a link to a page which explains how to do the edit properly. Please let me know what you do not understand.--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:10, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- As additional information, the specific edit in question is the one where you copied material from another Wikipedia article. That is permitted, but it must be done in a specific way as outlined in the link I provided. However, when an edit is reverted, our software automatically reverts all consecutive edits by the same editor so it may be that subsequent edits adding citations and references were perfectly fine and get swept up in the reversion. Please read how to copy material within Wikipedia and feel free to try again.--S Philbrick(Talk) 17:13, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
Not feeling great
It is getting exhausting for me at Fake news website. I think I may need to step away for a while. I fear that in a short period of time the whole page will get chopped up and merged into "yellow journalism", which is being used as a pejorative and epithet rather than small piece of contextual history, on the talk page. If you want to look over the page, that would be appreciated, and good luck. Sagecandor (talk) 20:29, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- If you are exhausted, I urge you to take a break. In my multiple years here, I have seen many situations where an ambitious new editor gets very involved in the subject. So far, so good. However, I have what some editors get so invested in the subject material that they begin to think anyone who has a different opinion about the content is part of conspiracy to hurt the article. In some of those situations, the ambitious editor reaches a point where they respond inappropriately and eventually get blocked or banned. I wish to emphasize that I'm not suggesting you are there yet, but I've seen this many times before, and urge you to take a break. The article will not disintegrate without your involvement. You might be unhappy at some changes that occur over the next few weeks, but if you take a break and come back refreshed, you'll be able to contribute positively.
- As an example where I see some sign to be concerned (and I will post on the talk page shortly) is your response to someone regarding yellow journalism. I think it is perfectly appropriate for someone to note that section purportedly explaining the difference between yellow journalism and a different concept that doesn't use the term yellow journalism is problematic. Step back take a deep breath and think about that. I think you are concerned (and I share the concern) that the article may transmogrify into an overly broad discussion of issues such as yellow journalism. But please don't overreact to someone who makes perfectly legitimate points.--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:48, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- You haven't seen the talk page history. Other user accounts have actually tried to suggest the entire article be done away with or merged into "yellow journalism", or just deleted. Example by blocked user at [1]. Compare [2] with [3]. Now compare that with comments by recent user accounts arriving at the page. I'm not an admin, I'm not the one that blocked the user that did this [4]. These are just the facts of what has occurred recently. Sagecandor (talk) 21:15, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

- @Decimusmaximus7: We have some conventions that are not immediately obvious. New posts on a talk page go at the bottom of the page, not the top. Editors are requested to include information in edit summaries about the edit. Not all do but it is considered a good practice. If you click on the "view history" tab of Draft:Red Sky Warning (novel), You'll see that I explained in the edit summary that the material you added was copied from a Facebook page. Even if those are your words, they constitute a copyright violation unless proper permission for the words has been arranged.--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:28, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

Editor abcdef
Hi Sphilbrick. When you get the chance would you mind taking a look at User talk:Editor abcdef#Updating new versions of images? This is the second time I informed the editor about this kind of thing and I'm not sure how else to try to explain it to them. Maybe there's nothing which can really be done in such cases. Anyway, File:Jabhat al-Akrad logo.png needs to be reduced and tagged with {{furd}}, but doing so means the older version will be deleted. I think this is the second time this editor has done something like this on this particular file. Any suggestions on how to best proceed? -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:35, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

SS Bombo deletion
Hi @Sphilbrick, you requested speedy deletion of the draft page SS Bombo which I had been very carefully creating, and unfortunately it has now been deleted before I had the opportunity to contest this request. I don't understand the reason for your request, as (a) the page was just a Draft and it hadn't been yet submitted for review & general release; and (b) I have tried to be scrupulous about citing copious references for all of content and images. The history shows the attention given to crafting this article.
The actual content which seems to have triggered your request appears to be this, in the section "Wreck" ...
<removed>
Both these paragraphs were inserted verbatim from the www.afloat source (along with following text from other sources) just to facilitate my "internal" editing of the draft, as this allowed me to properly compare, consolidate & paraphrase content from all the sources on the one page. You can see that I prefaced the "offending" text with the words (to edit), as I had no intention of using the content as-is, but just dropped it onto the draft page immediately prior to logging-out for the night. I have included attribution for this source material at the end of paragraph 2, just not for paragraph 1 (my oversight).
Can you please advise how I can have the page recovered, even if without the "Wreck" section (ie restore to any version prior to 30th Dec 2016 if necessary)? The article has been patiently assembled from many sources, each one carefully cited, and includes a number of historical photos which I have also placed into Commons. I confess that I was unaware that a Draft needed to comply with all WPs policies, so thanks for the lesson!
Thanks ❮❮ GEEKSTREET Talk Lane ❯❯ 22:20, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Geekstreet: Although we don't require drafts to be fully compliant with all rules immediately, there is one rule where we take a hard line — copyrights. Text and images subject to copyright which have not been released under a license agreement cannot be used anywhere in Wikipedia, not in articles not in drafts not in talk pages. I understand that some people will start with a copy of material under copyright, and then edit it so that it removes the copyright problem, but that practice is doubly flawed. The best practice is to look at multiple sources of information and then craft something in your own words. When you start with someone else's words even if you do it off line, there's a chance you will retain the structure and only lightly paraphrase it which is still a copyright violation. Secondly if you do this editing online, violations a copyright will occur in earlier versions before the edits. Not everyone realizes this but we are concerned about copyright violations even in prior versions of articles, including drafts.
- Normally, we don't restore anything with a copyright violation but I will see if I can restore it to a version prior to the added material. Please make sure to check the rest of the article; while I don't recall precisely I identified one problematic section but I thought that might have been others, I could be wrong.--S Philbrick(Talk) 23:07, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

Second opinion requested
Hello, I hope you are having a happy new year. I was hoping you could give me a second opinion on the G6 speedy deletion I declined on IFK Uppsala (disambiguation). This redirect was targetting IFK Uppsala, which I interpreted essentially as a disambiguation page (albeit one with an infobox and two sourced sentences) and the nominator did not believe was a DAB page because it had referenced material and no {{disambiguation}} template. Would you mind taking a look and letting me know what you think? Thanks. –Grondemar 19:54, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Grondemar: I may be missing something. I don't see any recent edits to that page not a speedy nomination nor a declination. That said it appears to be neither fish nor fowl. It's sort of an article in sort of a dab page but I'm not sure it should be either. We don't generally need a dab page when there's only two items; we can use hat notes. However, if we look at the content in the three separate articles there's barely enough for one article let alone two and definitely not three. One option is to merge the whole bunch into one proper article. (FYI, happy to see you editing again.)--S Philbrick(Talk) 22:53, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Thank you. Igho (talk) 22:43, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Igho: It wasn't deleted for lack of references it was deleted because it was created by a banned or blocked user. Assuming you are neither, feel free to start over. (I see that you are new, if you don't know why we delete articles, even ones that might otherwise be acceptable, when they are created by a banned or blocked user, please ask.)--S Philbrick(Talk) 22:57, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
- Ya, I'm new in English Wikipedia. I am from Indonesia and I didn't create this article. So, would you mind to make it back? Thank. Igho (talk) 23:09, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
- It was deleted properly. However, if you would like to create an article about the subject, feel free to do so.--S Philbrick(Talk) 23:14, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

Indonesian films deletion
Hi Sphilbrick. I got a message that my draft was marked for deletion. I was able to take action 4 hours later and the article was already deleted. I fully intend to finish this article, could you undelete it please? Thanks!
Hi, Sphilbrick! I see you deleted many Indonesian films, actors and an award ceremony such as Guru Bangsa: Tjokroaminoto, Filosofi Kopi, Athirah, Chico Jerikho, Deddy Sutomo, Cut Mini and the 5th Annual Maya Awards. I just wanna know why? Is it because the lack of references or others? Thank you. Delement —Preceding undated comment added 04:24, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Delement: Please see my response to Igho immediately above this; each of those articles was deleted because they were created by a banned or blocked user. Please feel free to re-create any of those articles. It has nothing to do with references.--S Philbrick(Talk) 12:59, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Happy New Year, Sphilbrick!
Send New Year cheer by adding {{subst:Happy New Year fireworks}} to user talk pages.

Sin senos no hay paraíso
Hi, I think there was an error with respect to this article, because all the history was deleted and also the article ?. Maybe I did things wrong or did not understand very well what happened, but already the article Sin senos no hay paraíso , does not exist, just wanted to move the page to another title, but could not because the article would not allow me.--Philip J Fry Talk 21:46, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Philip J Fry: I'm not sure what's going on. Here it is, sort of Sin Senos no Hay Paraíso, but I haven't sorted out what happened.--S Philbrick(Talk) 22:00, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- Exactly, but the content of the article is not seen, it is totally empty and the history only talks about a redirection.--Philip J Fry Talk 22:02, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Philip J Fry:I recovered it. I think the page move request was malformed although I may have acted on it too quickly. I see the page to be moved is a red link and I normally check the page to be moved and make sure it exists so I'm not quite sure what happened. However I think were back to where we started from so maybe you know what should happen next.--S Philbrick(Talk) 22:08, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Indonesian musicians deletion
Hi, Sphilbrick! I see you deleted many Indonesian musician such as Adhitia Sofyan, Geisha (Indonesian group), HIVI!, Gamaliel Audrey Cantika. I just wanna know why? Is it because the lack of references or others? Thank you. Teddy Bear (talk) 13:03, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

reply: nomination for deletion of one of the photographs I have uploaded.
Hi Sphilbrick
As you have sought clarification on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Kmrarun about a photograph, I would like apprise that the photo is clicked by Mr. Navtej Singh but I have uploaded with his consent on wikipedia for the viewers. Please specify why would you nominate the same for deletion? 'Consent of creator is taken' == consent of photographer is obtained .. but since the phrase did confuse you, I am changing the words. Please see if you are ok with the same else you may like to specify what should I do?
Warm Regards

- @Kmrarun: I am happy to hear that you have arranged for permission, but such permission must be filed with OTRS. Once permission is filed and accepted, the nonfree use rationale should be removed; that rationale is for images without permission. Suitable language can be found here:
- Commons:OTRS (Note particularly the interactive release generator which is an easy way to generate the permission)--S Philbrick(Talk) 15:11, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
Dear Sphilbrick
I would be going through OTRS. I have a query. I am administrator of one of the groups on FB (Natural Biodiversity) where we have sought implicit permission from all the members of the group (group is under GPL). Can I send the group information on OTRS once to get authorized or I have to submit the same or different proof for each contribution? Further I did upload the image with intention to upload more, possibly in bulk, to propagate and support research. Is there any way to do so with better ease? We have thousands of pics, almost all of those are classified with ID, Place of click, and Date. Please suggest and guide.
Regards

- @Kmrarun: We can definitely handle this in bulk. That said, that process is not common, and not well-defined, so I will put together some additional information later today.--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:01, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Kmrarun: Sorry, I need to run something by some other OTRS admins, working on it soon.--S Philbrick(Talk) 15:10, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
An article has been mistakenly protected
Dear Sphilbrick,
You're doing a very good job on Wikipedia. But recently, you may have unintentionally protected the page Hsiung Feng III by accident. The page has been repeatedly vandalized by the IP editors 118.168.100.131 and 91.125.28.80 as well as another person Primefac who apparently are trying to push their pov and change the article from it's original version without consensus. The previous unvandalized consensus based version of the article listed the Hsiung Feng III as both a nuclear missile and hypersonic missile which is supported by facts and academic references but apparently these IP editors wanted to push their false pov that Taiwan "does not have nuclear weapons" and that the missile is "not hypersonic" while ignoring or dismissing the references. Many efforts were made to discuss the issue but they ignored the academic sources. The current version of the article is incorrect, Taiwan built and tested two nuclear bombs in southern Taiwan during the 1980s. Please review the following sources and consider unprotecting the Hsiung Feng III page or at least reverting the edit to it's original unvandalized version: 17:38, 4 January 2017 45.254.247.21
1.) From Wikipedia Taiwan and weapons of mass destruction page: "ROC successfully conducted its diminutive nuclear test in southern Taiwan in the 1980s."

2.) Taiwan fires hypersonic missile:

3.) Taiwan accidently fires nuclear missile:

4.) Japan and Taiwan both maintain a discreet policy of having secret undeclared nuclear weapons, a "nuclear bomb in the basement" policy, please read:

5.) The other states were Israel, South Africa, South Korea, and Yugoslavia."

Thank you! Sincerely, 45.254.247.8 (talk) 18:47, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) 45.254.247.8, I doubt it was 'accidentally' protected! But on the specific matter you have been reverted on, it should be pointed out that some of the sources you present here are not, in fact, according to Wikipedia, reliable sources for such claims as are being made. specifically, the Sun and Mirror are WP:TABLOID, whilst Chinanews does not meet the requirement that sources are independent of their subject, and the remainder, whilst indeed qualifying as relIable sources, do not prove the claim made. They only speculate that RoC can do such a thing; whereas the proposed edits claim that it has been done. Do you see the difference? It is to prevent speculation masquerading as fact that SPhibric protected that page. Regards, O Fortuna!...Imperatrix mundi. 19:02, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
- The protection is not accidental. This would be a good time for the participants to sort out issues without edit warring. If it can be sorted out before the production expires, an edit request can be used, or if everything is truly sorted out a request for removal of protection will be entertained.--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:22, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
Page restoration request
Hi Sphilbrick-- Would you be willing to restore the page Draft:Lee Munnich? I was waiting on my colleague to offer input and waited too long! Since I started the page, Mr. Munnich received the University of Minnesota President’s Award for Outstanding Service and an internship was started in his honor at the Humphrey School of Public Policy; I had been planning to add these two new pieces of information and submit the page. Thank you for your consideration! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tzi80 (talk • contribs) 02:08, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

- @Sphilbrick:: That is correct, I meant Draft:Lee Munnich. I've made the correction above. My apologies! Tzi80 (talk) 10:23, 5 January 2017 (UTC)User:Tzi80
