Adding cats
I noticed recently you have being adding the category Category: 2013 songs to every song released in that year. The category should only be on pages that also use Template: Infobox song. As Category: 2013 singles only goes on pages that use Template: Infobox single. Having the 2013 songs and 2013 singles category on the same page is sorta irrelevant and redundant. Cheers. STATic message me! 23:23, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
- Not redundant. A song is a piece of music that anybody can sing. A single is a format which nobody can sing! The two are not interchangeable. Song by date and single by date are two different concepts. The song by year relates to the date first published, made available, so song by year will only appear once, whereas a song can be issued as a single many times. Originally one was a sub-cat other the other which is patently absurd. Why should a song be omitted from the song by year category because it was also released as a single? --Richhoncho (talk) 08:00, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
- PS. Also as per WP:SONGS and several (old) discussions on that talk page, - add the song by date category. --Richhoncho (talk) 08:03, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
Do you mean better refs or more refs? Be more specific, please. According to the ratings guide, neither this nor Peacekeeper (Fleetwood Mac) are stubs. Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:23, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
- One of the key parts of Wikipedia is WP:V - I can't see any of the content verified, (one of the links is a deadlink, which doesn't help). I also note that leaves us with a pure discography entry, which really isn't start class. What about some information about "the song?" NB I haven't checked Peacekeeper, but am fairly confident similar reasons. Cheers--Richhoncho (talk) 21:10, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
- The book reference verifies the statement it follows. All the information can be similarly referenced if it is considered necessary. It is the discography ref that is a deadlink. What information about the song are you thinking of? And you reverted me at Peacekeeper without even checking why you were doing it? That's not terribly impressive. Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:26, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
- Don't be silly, I didn't double check Peacekeeper following your post to my talkpage. I most certainly reviewed why I changed an assessment. I do not change assessments lightly. You might also like to consider the edict that if you have substantially edited an article you should not also be assessing! Cheers. --Richhoncho (talk) 21:32, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
- That wasn't what you implied above. I hardly touched Peacekeeper, but I hardly think the trivial matter of grading an article should be discouraged from those who work on it. If that's the rule though, it doesn't surprise me. If you do have anything specific to suggest about the song (Sarah), let me know. Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:35, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

- No worries. As I said, it's the discography entry that's a deadlink, and the book ref is fine. I'm working on it now. Bretonbanquet (talk) 21:56, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

List of songs recorded by
Hi Richhoncho, you seem to really know your stuff when it comes to songs. I've been wanting to start a List of songs recorded by The Pogues for a while now, but I've been a bit unsure how to approach it. I'd find it helpful to have a good article (not necessarily a Good Article) to use as a model. List of songs recorded by The Beach Boys looks simple enough to emulate, though it's unreferenced. Are these lists even expected to have references of their own? Looking over the relevant category, there also seems to be inconsistency in the titling of "the" in band names, which seems like a headache. --BDD (talk) 17:12, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the compliment. References are required for all articles including lists. The Beach Boys list looks fairly good, I am not sure if length is really relevant, although I approve of recording and released dates (this helps to give a historical context), there are some other bits of information which could be collated, for instance where recorded, writers, albums, musicians (including session musicians), producer, even engineer, I suspect anything more detailed would belong on the relevant song/album article and would spoil a list. Anyway the fact you are thinking of more than a laundry list is good news as far as I am concerned, the rest will depend more on what is available than anything I can suggest! --Richhoncho (talk) 19:15, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Hearts Like Ours
In Hearts_Like_Ours#Video, I am simply describing the video, and have not yet described all of the video. That being said, should the expand section tag still not be there? --Jax 0677 (talk) 18:31, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- In an article about "a song" I would expect to see songwriters, critical reception, something about "the song" all of which is missed. At the moment the article is a discography entry with something about the video tagged on. I am not opposed to the video section being expanded, it's just not the most important part of a song!!! Cheers. --Richhoncho (talk) 18:37, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
"Candida" by Dawn
If I'm not mistaken, my edit denied months ago involved that single's release date. "Candida" couldn't have been released on 25 July 1970 because it bowed on the Hot 100 at #97 on that date. Therefore "Candida" must have been released earlier. In the absence of knowing the exact release date, I removed the "25". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.151.174.67 (talk) 00:41, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

WP:DAB footnote
If the footnote that (song) etc. "covered by an article" doesn't mean title ("has its own article"), perhaps it needs moving up into WP:DAB text body. But that would need discussion. Cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:42, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. There is an underlying problem here. The guidelines are written for a general encyclopedia and as such are pretty good. Trouble is when they are applied to "cultural titles" as if they are the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth. So I would be more than happy for the "covered by article" in the main text but I think that it needs to more specifically aimed at media titles- as how the discussion went as well. I wrote recently regarding a proposed move at Talk:All I Really Want in response to a question what does generic mean? Generic - as in commonplace, as in 2,430,000,000 Ghits - I noted all the Alanis Morissette related entries also had the words Alanis Morissette there too - with the exception of WP. Anybody looking for the AM song will probably not bother with WP.. The joke of it is even those looking for the AM song, will be helped by seeing the artist's name in the title. Extremely notable and recognised songs, i.e. Hey Jude, Smells Like Teen Spirit etc do not require disambiguation.
- BTW I felt the footnote was added there as a way of avoiding it becoming too prominent - but I may well be wrong! --Richhoncho (talk) 05:56, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

A cup of coffee for you!
Thanks for common sense. I have started (yet another) discussion of this sub-primary topic primary dab nonsense at WT:DAB In ictu oculi (talk) 18:34, 9 October 2013 (UTC) |
Your recent moves
All of them are incomplete. For example at Make It Last. You moved it to Make It Last (Embrace song) because "there are other songs", but Make It Last still redirecting there and there are no other evidence there are "other songs" visible to call a DAB. Also DAB doesn't apply to non-dabbed articles, that's called WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. © Tbhotch™ (en-2.5). 23:33, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
- Similarly, Round Here now points to Round Here (Counting Crows song) which has a broken hatnote; it should now point to Round Here (disambiguation), which needs to be edited to reflect the fact that, as you have decided, there is no primary topic for "Round Here". Please don't move pages unless you are going to follow through and tidy up after your changes. Continuing to do so will be seen as disruptive editing: you are breaking the encyclopedia. PamD 07:46, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for note, Pam, much appreciated and will do. My note can be read at Wikipedia talk:Disambiguation for further information. Cheers. --Richhoncho (talk) 07:55, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Interwikis at Category:Songs written by Bob Dylan
Hi Richhoncho,
Why did you put back the interwikis on the page "Category:Songs written by Bob Dylan" and with that re-introduced the interwiki conflicts I had solved? For instance "Category:Songs written by Bob Dylan" corresponded with both "Categorie:Compositie van Dylan" (Song written by Bob Dylan) and "Categorie:Nummer van Bob Dylan" (Song sung by Bob Dylan) at the Dutch Wikipedia. I had solved that problem and you just re-introduced it... Sijtze Reurich (talk) 09:34, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your note. The interwikis were added to many categories by Addbot. I saw you remove and, because they were added by bot assumed that everything was working correctly and your edit was not quite correct. I haven't checked, but I think that if there are problems then the matter should be taken up with the operator of the bot. I am assuming good faith now. I think this addition to the Word Up! article is unnecessary, but I don't want to get into an edit war with this overzealous editor. The new version should just be placed in the list of other covers. What do you think? Thanks. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 20:36, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- I totally agree with your thoughts, but, there's no point in reality, if it is a charity single by Little Mix then it will become notable. Best to accept that Little Mix fans will continue to add here, or worse still, a separate article will appear. Best let time decide, not worth a 6 week edit war over the song! This time next year WP will be able to deal with the matter in the cold light of day and without the shrill voices of fandom. Cheers. --Richhoncho (talk) 20:57, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
All done removing Category:Love songs from pages!
Well, I got the rest done by removing 135 remaining pages from Category:Love songs, including my user talk page. I'm appreciated that you and couple other users helped me, but I did about two-thirds of it. The quickest trick I did was on my user contributions page, I moused over diff to bring up navigation box, then I right click on revert to do on another tab so I can stay on the page, but I only did it for current revision since inserting category so I don't revert edits since inserting. So did you look at my post about reason for ignoring warning and decided to recreate category, and what did you think of that? PlanetStar 08:56, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
- I appreciate you did the most work on removing, I was slower, because I was also trying to add missing defining categories - songwriters, record label (for singles), year of creation for the song and anything else I spotted. I have no wish to comment regarding the recreation of the category, I am thankful it is empty again and fully support the original reasons it was deleted. FWIW, Song lyrics contain allegories, metaphors and a host of other literary devices. I was never convinced that some of those songs were "love songs" in the first place. Without the text confirming - with references - then no category should be added. Cheers. Thanks for the removals. --Richhoncho (talk) 17:20, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 29
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Where Do I Start, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Giants (album) (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
