Question regarding a proper behavior in cases of repeated acts of anonymous vandalism
I have a question regarding a proper behavior in cases of repeated acts of anonymous vandalism. In particular, I am referring to the page Viktor_Petrik. There have been numerous attempts to change the entire contents of the page (with some clearly wrong and unsupported information) and I tried to undo these changes every time I saw them. The modifications came from different IP addresses, so proposing to blacklist particular addresses seemed impractical. Did I behave right under those circumstances? What I am supposed to do the next time when the same modifications are being pushed (after the protection period of one week is over)?
By the way, thank you for reminding me to sign my posts. PtolRek (talk) 03:18, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

I have edited this article to bring it more into line with the standardized article format of WikiProject Ice Hockey. Specifically, I have removed current season statistics (which are not tracked until the end of the season), reduced totals to those of the most senior league, and made some minor format changes (– in place of -). I have also expanded the article and added references. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for creating the article. Cjmclark 19:32, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for help on the article, I haven't worked on hockey articles much so I'll make note of your format changes. Qrsdogg (talk) 20:08, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

I was challenged to hear others say turtle racing could not be made into an FA. Are you game, shovel-man? I'm in process of losing my FA virginity with Painted turtle, so could use the experience to do another one (but a light topic). TCO (talk) 22:20, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, I hadn't seen that article yet--just up my alley. I might have to go to work on that one. Good edits on Mossad shark and Zionist vulture BTW; it makes me wish the Marine Dolphin could have a sidekick (Marine dolphin and CIA rodents just doesn't sound as good). Qrsdogg (talk) 00:18, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks man. I was going to stick the dolphin into the AFD thread. That AFD seemed a little image-lite don't you think? Probably need to limit my class clowning though.
- There are (or used to be) seals or sea lions also.
- On the turtle racing, there are over 500,000 hits for "turtle racing". In "Painted turtle", I had 3 quick newspaper references, plus capture for racing is mentioned as a minor use (compared to pets) in the serious Gamble articles on overcapture concerns. There is some controversy as to whether it is cruelty to animals (I really don't know if it is or not, but I think the controversy makes it inherently more interesting). Obviously it is kitschy and has that appeal. Plus if you look what I wrote, there is stuff about doing it in bars now, not just summer fairs. It's probably totally the sort of pop culture thing wikipedians would enjoy and it's not even as obscure as you might think. Be a fun article to research. Maybe even go get a first hand photo or video and all that. Could really be snazzy (as an article). Plus, I bet you have a lot of great ideas from other stuff you've done (and I'm reasonably heavy on the biology itself, now) for that resource. Here is a thread where we discussed it some and you can see how one could cover this Canadian aspect as well. [1] 04:08, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- P.s. I'm a little bumming right now as I'm getting an FA reviewer who wants my article to be more "technical sounding" when it has huge technical content, but we did the work to very thoughtfully make it readable, while keeping accuracy. Which actually I would do in the real world, too. I have a Ph.D. Find that the more jargony and poor writing types tend to be the ones who care less about actually reporting results or who are defensive on their technical savvy, so try to dress it up. Biologists are the (second worst) too, accurding to a study of journals for needless technical usage and poor writing. Medical of course is the worst. Hope you are not a biologist. :( TCO (talk) 04:08, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

- You are very welcome, BTW--I think you have done a great job on this article as well. It's really a shame that any article relating to Israel quickly becomes so contentious, but I think you've done an excellent job sourcing and defending this addition to the project. Hey nice job progressing the article. Wanted to invite you to try to get it to GA. We can help with some experience and help on all the format stuff and all that. It's actually a tough article to get to GA because of the sources. But people would just love it content wise!

- I've never gotten anything to GA before, so this would be new territory. But it would really be awesome to get it there; I think that is a great idea. Thanks for the links, Qrsdogg (talk) 15:06, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- It'll be fun to go get the wiki "hardware". I think you totally know what you are doing, but going through any kind of review, you get new learnings that are helpful in general article work. Biggest challenge will be digging out the content (for that subject)...but stoked that you are up for challenge. It's really gotten pushed along a bit already.

Hi. :) You seem to have done some good cleanup work on this article, but unfortunately it all seems like you inadvertently created a plagiarism issue when you removed quotation marks from the text "The Wall Street Journal's Bret Stephens pointed to the Mossad shark and other Arab conspiracy theories as an example of 'the debasement of the Arab mind.'" The whole thing was a quote from The Washington Post, who were quoting the Wall Street Journal. I know that {{cquote}} is not to be used in articles, but when removing it please make sure that all of the quote is properly marked. Thanks! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:54, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Qrsdogg, because your head hurts anyway from working on my last article :-), I thought your head will not be hurting any more than it already is :-), if you are to help me with another article about the Liar paradox. I am going to post it in a few hours from now. May I please ask you, if you will be available to help me with it? Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 19:17, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Viktor Petrik
Question about inaccurate or poorly written comments and editorial remarks on the page for Professor Viktor Petrik. I noticed that you and one other member continue to edit hearsay and undocumented references to Petrik and continue to reinsert them once corrected. I personally have traveled to St. Petersburg and met Petrik; I have researched many of his claims along with some insight into the defamatory press that he has recently won his legal battle. There are 22 more such cases and according to the current court records it appears that Petrik has been able to substantiate each of his scientific claims.
I also can only find one person at the Russian Ministry of Science that had an interview with the WSJ - he was an administrator and not a scientist; I can't seem to find anyone else in the Ministry to support the claims that Petrik's work is "Pseudoscience".
I thought taking a little time to help with the edits might clear up some of the bad press.
So aside from the WSJ and other press that has now been proven in Russian court as defamation what other sources do you have to continue to push these claims.

Help with DYK?
Here's the DYK nomination for our article. It looks like the user, who's opposing the nomination does not understand the paradox. Could you help me to explain it to him? Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 22:44, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
- You know, I can't say that I even understand Petergans' argument here. I'll see if I can get him to elaborate if he contests Broccolo's approval again. Qrsdogg (talk) 05:13, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Another article
Hi Qrsdogg, I've started working on yet another article about logic. It probably will not be finished tonight, maybe tomorrow, maybe later on, but the question is, if you'd be interested in helping me out with this one too? It is perfectly alright, if you'd rather not. Regards.--Mbz1 (talk) 03:35, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, always glad to help. Although I did get rebuked the other day for misusing a semi-colon--so my grammatical skills actually might leave some to be desired. Qrsdogg (talk) 03:59, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- Here it is. BTW my work on the articles concerning philosophy reminded me a saying that my philosophy professor shared with me: "A philosopher is a person, who is looking for a black cat, in a dark room, and the cat is not even there." Now I understand what he meant :-)--Mbz1 (talk) 21:48, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- That's a good expression, I'll have to remember that. Perhaps a philosophical physicist would be someone who is looking for Schrödinger's cat in the dark? Qrsdogg (talk) 22:06, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I took a couple passes at it. Looks good to me, great job with the refs. I didn't find this one quite as confusing as Pinocchio thankfully. The only comment I have is that the quotations from Cervantes are somewhat long. Perhaps you could summarize part of the quote and then quote fewer lines? I don't know what the guidelines in the MOS are about this kind of thing though. Qrsdogg (talk) 00:20, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- I removed a big quote. I thought about this myself too, but then I decided it is better to let Cervantes to do the job. :-)

- Why did you say that Pinocchio is confusing. Please do ask me, if you do not understand something. This will help us to improve the article. - Here's DYK. May I please ask you, if you could think of the better hook or fixing English in my hook, please do it. Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 03:32, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- I just touched up the hook a bit. I guess with the Pinocchio article it took me longer to really get the concept down and this article was much easier. Then the controversy about semantics on the template talk page confused me further. But overall I think the article is understandable. Qrsdogg (talk) 15:22, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Qrsdogg, if you have a time, maybe you could help to copy-edit a small article Despina Storch. There's no logic involved with this one, so should not be as hard as with the others, but if you'd rather not, it will be perfectly alright. Best.--Mbz1 (talk) 21:02, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

- Well, since it was an interesting article I figured I'd take a look at it. I used the Serial comma and U.S. instead of US--I don't know what your take on those conventions is. Also I noticed that a few times you used "the authorities" without specifically explaining who they were (CIA, FBI, DoJ, DoD, PTA?). Not sure if the sources were specific about that or not. It was a good read though, must have been a fun one to write. Qrsdogg (talk) 18:30, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Only look what you've done to my article :-) Thank you for fixing it for me! I believe the authorities were from the Department of Justice. I did enjoy to write this article. I've always liked real life romantic spy's stories, and now, when I myself unwillingly got involved in one (not romantic at all, but definitely a real life wikipedia's spy/hacker story) it was even more interesting to work on the article. Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 19:20, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- You're welcome, glad to help. Now that I think about it, the CIA couldn't've been involved since they weren't around back then. The FBI was pretty new as well. Guess it had to be the DoJ then.

- No worries, I'll be just fine :-) Please take a look at image I took today .--Mbz1 (talk) 20:12, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, that is just incredible. You have an amazing talent there. It's 28F where I live so that's a nice reminder for me that spring is coming, eventually. Qrsdogg (talk) 20:19, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you, I live in San Francisco, no real winter here. I'm missing snow.--Mbz1 (talk) 21:40, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm sure I would miss all the snow if I ever moved to a warmer climate. The San Francisco winters must be much milder than the ones in Russia, for sure! Qrsdogg (talk) 23:23, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- I do miss the snow, but California is a wonderful place, where one could surf and then go downhill skying at the very same day. I used to do lot's of downhill skying, but a few years ago I broken my shoulder, and my husband said: "No more skying". So now we still go to see the snow, but I do not ski anymore :( This image was taken this very winter. The place is about 3 hours drive from where we live.--Mbz1 (talk) 17:01, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- Pretty remarkable how varied of a climate you can find after driving for a few hours like that. That is quite the picture of the van there, I wonder how long it would take to shovel that out? I saw some cars almost completely covered like that in Cambridge, MA after the big snowstorms a few weeks ago. They have some narrow side streets there and after they plow the cars are just covered. Like this except there were two feet of snow on top of the car as well. It's kinda ironic though, that I live near some great skiing areas but never bother skiing. Oh well, driving in a blizzard gives me the same thrill as skiing sometimes. Qrsdogg (talk) 17:16, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- I could imagine driving in a blizzard could be a thrill. I have never done it. In Soviet Union I had no car, and here, the roads in Sierra are closed, when there is a blizzard. But sometimes I was a passenger on a ski bus on mountain roads in Soviet Union in a blizzard. It was scary, especially in two places. We called the first place "I love you, life", and the second one: "Life, I love you even more". I started skiing, when I lived in Soviet Union. I did ski Elbrus, Cheget, in the area of Dombai, and many other places. Once I went skiing to Arctic (crossed the Arctic Polar circle). It was fun. BTW I see we have no article about Cheget. It is one amazing mount. Maybe one day I'll write an article about it. I have lots of pictures from this beautiful place. And now it is time to let you do something else. Enjoyed talking to you.--Mbz1 (talk) 19:55, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

New article
Hi Qrsdogg, we've done so good on other articles about logic, so I thought you might be interested to take a look at a new one. If you have no time, it is perfectly alright. Best wishes.--Mbz1 (talk) 20:41, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
- Alright, I'll try to check it out later tonight unless something comes up. I love the title, almost as good as Colorless green ideas sleep furiously.
- BTW, I saw the proceedings at ANI earlier. It sometimes amazes me the stuff that some people do around here. Qrsdogg (talk) 00:05, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, if somebody would have ever told me that my computer would be hacked, that I'd get emails from somebody, who pretended to be my gmail service, and then I'd get email from somebody, who pretended to be to be a member of Arbcom, and then that a respected wikipedia user would believe that those emails were obtained somehow legally, and all of this would be connected to my editing of wikipedia, I would have never ever believed it is possible, but it happened right in front of my eyes. Maybe I should write an article about this one :-)--Mbz1 (talk) 00:46, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- lol, that would make some good reading.

- Ok, I tried to clean up some of the grammar and trim some long sentences. Hope that I didn't change the meaning of anything. This is a tricky article to explain in detail, though. I'll reread it again later and see if there is anything that still confuses me.
- This sentence "but men (well, most men anyway) are not donkeys" made me laugh. It works better if you substitute "ass" for "donkey" though. Qrsdogg (talk) 01:08, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
