Hello, I shared a total of 4 information on Medes with sources, but a user after me deleted them each time.Unfortunately I deleted 2 sources by mistake while trying to specify these sources again. For this reason, you perceived my actions as Vandalism. But I was not the one to do the vandalism. Please review. And I want the protection of the Medes page to drop on condition of control. I have resources to share. Resource sharing (talk) 11:51, 14 September 2020 (UTC) |

The Dark Order
I apologize. I moderate the Twitch stream that this is from & I can't tell who is doing it because we are currently in a charity stream with many users, I don't predict they will stop. We've asked. Multiple times. --MattBinYYC (talk) 01:29, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

Revert on Build (game engine)
Hi there, I noticed that you reverted changes by an IP on Build (game engine) and it does not appear clear to me why you reverted these edits and placed a notice on the IP's talk page that it was unconstructive. The edits appear to be adding content with sources. TribunalMan (talk) 01:47, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- TribunalMan - Oh snap. I saw that content was removed and replaced, but looking at the history of the edits made to the article, you are correct - they appear to be legitimate. I'm going to fix what I did and apologize. Thank you for the heads up! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:50, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

Look at Evil Uno on Twitter, and you can even see where Brodie Lee accepted them during a 12 hour charity stream. Hi Oshwah, I recently updated a link to my moodboard app Plotboard. As I see you removed that update. Let me explain. Plotboard was published as an iOS app few years ago. Now we've moved to a web app that is hosted at https://plotboard.io I propose to keep the update to let users discover the newer web-app rather than the older iOS app. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Volodium (talk • contribs) 15:27, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

Bobby White
Hi,
Just curious why you deleted my edit of the wikipedia entry for "Bobby White" for not providing a reliable source. I included the front page NY Times story as the source. See: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/15/us/politics/basketball-cop-gainesville-police.html
I hope the NY Times is considered a reliable source. The Times story even includes a link to the dramatic video.
Fortunately, someone else has now reintroduced this new disturbing information on "Bobby White" and neither you or anyone else has deleted it yet. Please do not do so. I can provide the video ... or you can just go the NY Times story I cited as my source and find the video.
Here is the link to your edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bobby_White&oldid=973215504

- Hi there! Thanks for the message and for pointing this out to me. I think I missed it because the edit you made adding the URL was in a previous edit, not the edit that I was looking at where you added more content to the article. The URL was simply listed in the content instead of referenced with tags or templated with the cite template. Either way, I apologize for missing that and for reverting your edit. I'm happy to hear that the content was updated nonetheless. Please let me know if you have questions or if I can assist you with anything else. I'll be happy to do so. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:59, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
A stalker ?
Hi Oshwah! I just saw that you posted Anna Frodesiak's Goodbye. How sad! I hope that YOU can give me an advice instead: please have a look at User_talk:BhagyaMani#I_have_something_important_to_tell_you._Please_just_listen_and_don't_remove_this. This user sent me several messages on my commons talk page, swearing s/he is not crazy, not a troll, asking whether I'm active and brown, deleted earlier posts there, apologised for asking, and now contacted me again. Is there any way I can rid of this clown? -- BhagyaMani (talk) 22:31, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

User:Wx413nseu8
Hi Oshwah,
Three years ago, you erroneously blocked me for 21 hours. After three long years, I'd like to call in a favor from you as recompense :). Could you take a look at the account User:Wx413nseu8? Particularly this edit, wherein Wx413nseu8 gives bakalava to User:ElliotR1. [REDACTED - Oshwah]
I'm not really sure what to make of Wx413nseu8. Besides the aforementioned edit, Wx413nseu8's edits seem to all be benign or value-neutral. I'd like to assume good faith and say Wx413nseu8 was just tesing out the wikilove buttons, but, realistically, you wouldn't stumble onto ElliotR1's user page without knowing who he is, and, ya know… Anyway, I'm hoping you could take a look and take appropriate action.
Thanks! userdude 07:32, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi UserDude! Oh boy... I apologize for the error that I made three years ago. I was somewhat of a "new" admin at the time; I hope you believe that I've gained much more experience since then. :-) Yes, I will absolutely look into this. Thank you for the message and for bringing this to my attention. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:21, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- UserDude - I don't see anything that's actionable here. While the wikilove is certainly something that raises a brow, I don't see anything else that I would consider actionable. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns, and I'll be happy to help. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:39, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
why did you delete my page?
Hey there
I recently started a page so I could finally be found on wiki.
A day later it was deleted. Any reason?
I am one 5th of UK band MISSING ANDY (on wiki) and even though not evey fact seems to be true about us, I want one for my solo work.
Here was the link to the deleted page.

Any chance it can go back up? Got some big songs coming out and need this for spotify :)

RobJonesTV (talk) 16:30, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- RobJonesTV - Wikipedia is not for advertising or promotion. It is an encyclopedia, and your user page did not comply with Wikipedia's policy on user pages. This is why it was deleted. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:36, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
Continued edit warring behavior from IP
Oshwah, just letting you know that the IP editor at 86.174.124.67 that you recently blocked for edit warring a few days ago has continued their pattern of edit warring at Joe Mantegna, though they are now at 86.174.124.32 (as well as making petty edits like this and filing frivolous ANI reports).
I'm not an Admin, but in my opinion this editor has behavioral issues that may merit further blocks. FWIW. --IJBall (contribs • talk) 23:36, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- IJBall - You don't need to be an administrator in order to express your thoughts and concerns regarding another user. Your opinion is welcome no matter what user rights you have. I've reverted the last revert that the IP user made, asking the user to discuss this on the article's talk page. If the user continues to revert the edit on the article, please let me know. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:21, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oshwah, still being unnecessarily combative (though I agree with this edit more than the last one...). --IJBall (contribs • talk) 13:41, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Huggle
How do I update huggle on ubuntu 20.04 LTS? --Thegooduser Life Begins With a Smile :) 🍁 01:22, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thegooduser - You'll need to download the new version, remove the old version from Linux, and put the new version in its place in your Linux directory. I've used Huggle on Linux a long time ago; it's most likely not an installer, but the program files contained in a tar.gz compressed file. That's fine - just extract the content, remove the old version, put the new version in its place. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:23, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

- Thegooduser - I would absolutely not "play with malware" or "play with tech scammers" in any environment unless you absolutely know what you're doing and understand all of the risks that come with doing so. Are you going to let a tech scammer connect to this "workstation" with your real IP address? How are you making sure that all of your information is masked and can't be tied to you? How are you going to make sure that any malware that you "play with" is completely contained and has absolutely no ability to access your information, transmit your IP address, or use your workstation to spread itself to others or to engage in malicious activity on the internet? These are questions that you probably haven't thought of, nor asked yourself. Again, is it really worth the risk? That's something you're going to have to decide. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:02, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

This is a user that was recently blocked for edit warning, and has been cautioned by you, myself, and others for a variety of other things including incivility. Recent additions include canvassing a not-particularly good photo across a number of articles in which either (1) it's not a strong representation of the subject or (2) there are already plenty of better photos. Do you think this is subtle trolling, WP:CIR, or me overthinking it? (Upon further review, it looks like quite a few of their edits since the most recent block are questionable; not blatant vandalism, but not constructive either).OhNoitsJamie Talk 14:26, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Ohnoitsjamie! Please accept my apologies for the late reply to your message here. I don't know how I managed to miss your message and let it fall through the cracks like that... I looked at the contributions that the user has made, and while I wouldn't call it... "trolling", I would definitely call the edits disruptive and the behavior by the user defiant - especially when I see this after the user believed that he/she was blocked indefinitely. The user might think that he/she is making positive edits, but what I also feel (again, based off the user's edits) they're definitely willing to resort to disruptive behavior to push their edits - such as when the user repeatedly reverted your changes again and again... The fact that this user is currently blocked and has a block history doesn't surprise me, and I think that the best move going forward is to try and educate them, but stand firm when they push back and try and revert their changes. Stuff like this shows me that they're defiant and don't care about the rules. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:51, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

(That wasn't one of them. ) This edit strikes me as the kind of vandalism that usually is almost immediately ClueBotted, Huggled, RedWarned, Battlefielded, Stikied, or otherwise reverted... is it odd that it got through? Is there a way to see the ORES score for a particular edit? And did you know that "asshat" is used on 612 pages, but only 19 in mainspace? The other 593 must have been spirited debates. ;-) Lev!vich 04:48, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- Levivich - A lot of vandalism manages to make it through our edit filters and automated tools that are designed to revert vandalism on-the-spot. This is where human intervention steps in and where people like myself (and yourself) review edits and revert disruption. Don't be discouraged; for each disruptive edit that manages to slip by automated systems and are reverted by humans, the more that they learn. They use learning technology and skills to to better themselves, which is why human intervention is so important. We're working to better that technology every day, and simply because we revert vandalism using semi-automated tools. So don't give up! Stay tuned! The tools we have are far better than we had 12 years ago (I would know, I've been there lol), and they're only getting better. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:34, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
User:Isaacwshearer
Good evening, Oshwah. I'm here about the editorial behavior of Isaacwshearer (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), as mentioned above by GoneIn60. I'm not sure its worth an WP:ANI discussion because of their inactivity over the last 24+ hours, but no-less lots of recent edits since the expiration of their block has been made towards content forking roller coaster articles that necessarily do not need to be split, with somewhat other dubious edits including images not properly gathered from off-wiki sources or moving again an article without discussion. I wanted to seek advice whether its necessary to start a discussion about this editors behavior or not, as their edits point to a lack of responding to feedback left at their talk-page and continued disruptive editing. Thank you for considering my inquiry, and sorry for the bother, Adog (Talk・Cont) 06:58, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- Task looked at by User:Ad Orientem, though I'd admit, I may have over-assumed a valid redirect made by the diff above mentioning "Monster" as there seems to be other similar named roller coasters. It would be more clear if there was an edit summary to explain these kinds of edits, however, that faults onto me for assuming the nature of this diff given the editors past, frequent mass-changes. I want to make that clear if it contributed towards the 2 week block, but my other observations still stand. Thanks, Adog (Talk・Cont) 19:12, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Adog: I appreciate your clarification above, but this editor has a history of disruptive editing going back for their entire time here. A glance at their talk page shows a wall of messages and warnings regarding their problematic editing and I can't find any indication they responded. They were already on my radar as I had declined a report at ANI back in June given they were a newer editor who had not received a proper welcome. but things have been going downhill steadily I'm afraid. Since I declined the ANI report they have been blocked twice, once by Oshwah, and yet the problems persist. So no, your warning was not decisive here. This is an editor with what looks like really serious WP:CIR issues and it was their unsourced edits on Inverted roller coaster that were the last straw for me. I intensely dislike blocking editors who are not obviously cases of NOTHERE, but they have received a ton of advice and warnings, apparently without effect. Best regards... -Ad Orientem (talk) 19:29, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
- Going off of Ad Orientem's response, I agree that blocking someone on competence is required grounds is not easy at all - not by a long shot. However, sometimes this needs to happen... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:39, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Request to add content to the page Melanie Stansbury
Hi Oshwah,
I would like to request that you review my request for additions to the page Melanie Stansbury. I noticed that you had contributed to the page Melanie A. Stansbury, which was moved tonight to Melanie Stansbury. I have disclosed a connection to the subject of this page and have posted a tag on the talk page to disclose that fact. Since Wikipedia's COI guidelines ask that users with a connection not edit a page to which they are connected, I am requesting on the Talk page that changes be made. The changes are well sourced, I think, and should not be controversial. The previous page was based only on information that is two years old and there are updates to be made. I'm sure the editor who created the page will, but I would greatly appreciate it if you would too. Thank you. BiostatSci (talk) 06:01, 21 August 2020 (UTC)BiostatSci
- Hi BiostatSci! I appreciate you for understanding that you may have a conflict of interest with the article subject, and I greatly appreciate you for following Wikipedia's guidelines and for making an edit request instead of modifying the article yourself. I wish many more editors would follow your example and do this. :-) It looks like other editors have responded to your edit request with some concerns; you should respond to those concerns and work with those editors to clear up any issues. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for your diligence and for doing your best to follow Wikipedia's guidelines. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:37, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

Editing
Hi Oshwah, I wanted to come to you because of my edits on the following two pages: 1. On Shivkar Bapuji Talpade page, I have referenced book sources. Yet, RegentPark states they are not reliable even with book details, ASIN, etc. P.V. Vartak has written many books, many of which have been translated into other languages. He already has a Marathi wiki page which I translated into English. Just because an author has his own publishing house does not mean his books are not reliable sources. RegentPark has never addressed the heading edit I made to Talpade page because the heading was and still is a Sanskrit proper noun that makes no sense to an English reader and doesn't tell them what the section is about. Yet, RegentPark keeps reverting the heading. I can't help but observe that RegentPark has several complaints made against him for bias against Hinduism or Hindu culture. For eg, Tipu Sultan edits, Maratha invasion, Dwarka historicity, etc. And for this, editor Doug Weller is attempting to block me and delete my page creation.
2. My edits on Rigveda page were reverted by Joshua Jonathan because he said Tilak and Vartak are fringe authors. Tilak is a Sanskrit scholar who has been quoted multiple times by other authors. In any case, I can add more references and create a separate heading perhaps that says "Alternative timelines" or something. Rigveda's date of composition has always been under dispute and this is clearly mentioned on the page itself. Interestingly, Joshua Jonathan also has a editing history and talk pages that are full of complaints from Indians that his edits are biased against Hindu culture or Indian history.
I can't help but think that there is a anti-Hindu bias at work here from some editors. In general, there seems to be a lack of ethnic diversity among Wikipedia admins anyway which is probably a separate and broader discussion in itself. Sorry for the long post, but I did want to address this with a neutral third-party, hence I sent a message to you! If you are not the right person to send this to, I apologize!
Thanks! ga11 (talk) 18:16, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Gauri a11! I'm sorry to see that you've been blocked, and I'm saddened to see that you resorted to incivility to resolve your disputes. I hope that you can evaluate your behavior, and go through the proper channels to show that you've learned from your mistakes and that you'll properly resolve disputes and work to contribute and improve the encyclopedia. We all make mistakes, and I hope that you'll return. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:57, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

Hey Oshwah! I hope all is well for you! I haven't been on as much lately, real life has been consuming my time on this project. My activity has been up recently though, got an article draft submitted for Ricky Bell of New Edition, a project I put off for a uear before getting it done, so that's good! Hope all is well! :-) DrewieStewie (talk) 06:39, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

I hope you're doing well and that you're safe. Be healthy, and be well. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:58, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

- DrewieStewie - Oh boy, I remember those days... I was a full-time college student and had to work on top of that in order to stay afloat. Classes and work can be long and stressful, and you still have to study on top of that. Keep grinding though! I remember when graduation was coming up, it didn't even hit me that I was done with college until a week before. I was still grinding away at studying and final exams, and when all was done... I realized... "Wow... that's... that's it. I'm leaving school and my life is going to significantly change..." It was a weird feeling, not one that I could fully put into words. Transitioning from college to a career can be quite intense, so prepare yourself. And have fun, too! Having fun is equally as important as working and studying. Take it from me, whose been through college, graduated, and is now out in the workforce: This is the last period of your life where you can be "a kid", have fun, and go a little crazy. Having a career comes with freedom, but also a lot of responsibility. You're now "a grown up" and have to do "adulting" things... Enjoy life while you're free from those obligations, but be smart and use common sense. I wish you well and I hope you have a great labor day weekend. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:51, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Will do! I am currently studying history to become a history teacher at the high school level, this semester I also need to apply for Sac State for next year. I am enjoying my youth as much as I can, maybe my career choice will help me experience a little more of that for awhile, I'll try to be the best teacher I could ever be. Maybe my choice of major could help me contribute more to articles dealing with history, I'd probably stay more focused on professional wrestling/behind the WikiScenes/miscellaneous stuff on here though. Thanks for taking the time to give such thoughtful advice, it means a lot. :) DrewieStewie (talk) 02:34, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- DrewieStewie - You're welcome! I agree that your knowledge of history would be very beneficial to Wikipedia - keep up the great work, be safe, and don't hesitate to reach out to me if you'd like to say hello, or if I can do anything to help you. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:38, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

IP editor
Hi there. A while ago I asked if you could rangeblock an IP address and you were a big help. I'm having the same problem with a series of IP editors messing up Treaty of Watertown, Eskasoni First Nation, and a few other articles. The edits added have mostly been gibberish, and a few of the IP's have been warned. All the IPs are from Enosburg Falls, Vermont. Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 12:34, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Magnolia677! I apologize for the delayed response - I've been busy with work and other matters, and I'm just now getting caught up with all of the Wikipedia messages, emails, requests, and other fun stuff that I received. ;-) It looks like the edits are coming from this IP range; if the user continues with any more shenanigans, let me know and I'll be happy to take care of it. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:41, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hey there, if you look at all the edits made by that IP range they are all spam; additions of off-topic info, irrelevant links, gibberish, and lots of stuff about Gypsies. Nearly all edits have been reverted by other editors. Let me know what you think. Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 13:29, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- Magnolia677 - I agree. I've blocked the range for a week. They can appeal it if they wish, but I'm convinced that shenanigans are afoot. Let me know if I can do anything else for you. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:47, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

/* Culture */ **False claims of cannibalism were removed. A frightened German anthropologist visited the west coast in the late 1800s and blanket labeled native culture as cannibalistic
Hello,Oshwah As a member of this community in Bella Bella I would appreciate if you would allow me to remove these ridiculous claims of my ancestors of being cannibals. The kwakwaka'wakw people(not connected to Bella Bella or the Heiltsuk people) were as close as you could be to cannibals only because they used deceased relatives ashes in ceremonies. That was the only community on the west coast that disturbed human remains in any way shape or form. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.52.88.57 (talk) 02:53, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

Obscure message of being blocked.
Hi Oshwah, I have received an odd message to say I have been blocked for committing vandalism on a page I don't even recognise. The message is dated 1 March 2016
Cheers, George SoupBones (talk) 11:00, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @SoupBones: Where did you see this message? If it was at an IP talk page which you saw before you 'logged in' then IP addresses can frequently change and it is very possible that it was aimed at someone who did not create an account and who was assigned the same IP address at an earlier time. Eagleash (talk) 15:35, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you Eagleash, that makes sense. I have use Wikipedia for years and chucked in a bit of $$'s over the time. I have only ever edited one article [nervously] so it was a bit of a shock to think I had been scolded. All good now, thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SoupBones (talk • contribs) 08:14, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi Osh. I think you have raised an alert over an edit (to the Ben Hackworth page) made from this IP address. I've never edited Wikipedia, and I received this laptop new in 2020. Could this be a mistake? I've donated to Wikipedia before so I don't want to be punted from Wikipedia now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.6.225.252 (talk) 09:54, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

REVDEL?
A new account has created an attack page about a Kentucky judge accused but not convicted of some stuff. Dawn Gentry is at AfD, and I removed most of the article text per BLP, NOTNEWS, BLP1E, etc. Maybe REVDEL would be overdoing it, but I wanted to see if you or one of your talk page stalkers had a better idea than I have about this. Thanks! Also the new account Moose_Goat could benefit from some wiser person's advice, IMO. HouseOfChange (talk) 14:54, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Hello,
I found some untrue information about Mazyar on the existing page. Mazyar is considered a national hero because of his rebellion against the oppression of Abbasid Chaliphate in Iran . You didn’t mention that in fact The Chaliphate were charging very high taxes from the people of Iran and non- Muslim which was called Jaziah. People of Tabaristan supported Maziar’s And Mazyar didn’t convert to Islam and didn’t build mosques because he was a native Zoroastrian. Chaliphate persecuted Zoroastrians and burnt their temples and charged high taxes on them. Please correct these

- Parnian001 - You need to go through, review, and understand Wikipedia's policy on neutral point of view. The reason that your edit was reverted was due to your changes not being in compliance with this policy. It is required, and you have to follow it. Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. It will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice and complete the tutorial tell me later that it was significantly helpful to them and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:10, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

How do I put one more musical genre in an artist or on a song?
Hello, Oshwah. I don't know so much how to talk English, because this language is not my first language. But I love read Wikipedia (especially in English). And I love this activity so much that I wanted to change the musical genre of a band. So I needed a help of a expert. And when you corrected my error in "It's Now or Never" of Elvis Presley. Well, I discovered that I should ask your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jing74 (talk • contribs) 04:12, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Jing74! Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm happy that you decided to join us and help us to improve Wikipedia! So, your edit here wasn't anything you did that was wrong or malicious; it was reverted because you removed brackets from the beginning of a template. Templates on Wikipedia allow us to use one page to write content that can be included on many other pages. So, instead of writing the same content on 100 articles and then having to update each one, I can just use a template and just update that template. If I wanted to, for example, have my user talk page (this exact page) used on 100 different other pages, I can just go to those other pages and write (note the brackets and ) there instead of having to write it again and again. Any changes that are made here would be updated on those 100 other articles; I don't have to go to each one and update them. It saves a lot of time! When you remove the brackets from the start of a template (like what you did in your edit), it breaks that template and results in a mess of text being left behind. This is why I reverted that edit. See this page for more information about how templates work. Since you're new to Wikipedia, you should go through and complete the new user tutorial before you start editing. It will provide you with many important guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. It will help you a lot! Please let me know if you have any questions after completing the tutorial or after reading through that template help page - I'll be more than happy to help you! Again, welcome to Wikipedia! I'm so happy that you're here! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:05, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

I need to create a Wikipedia page about a famous football coach in India
Hi Mr Oshwah,
I hope you are doing well.
I tried to create a Wikipedia page named "Francisco Bruto Da Costa". He is a famous football coach in India. However, I saw your deletion of the same stating this is a commercial promotion.
I am new to this and in any case, do not intend to do commercial promotion of any kind.
I am seeking your help so that I can create the page and contribute to Wikipedia in a positive way.
Expecting your guidance on the same.
Thanks & Regards, Abhisek Nandan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhisek.nandan (talk • contribs) 14:06, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- (by talk reader) @Abhisek.nandan: Hi. You don't actually need to write an article about this coach, unless you have a conflict of interest. There are other ways to contribute to Wikipedia and if we wanted to have an article about this coach, we'd've written it. Please read WP:FIRSTARTICLE. Chris Troutman (talk) 14:18, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- I think Chris troutman meant to say, "You don't actually need to write an article about this coach, especially if you have a conflict of interest". The word "unless" makes it mean that you don't need to write an article about this coach, unless you have a COI - then you do need to write an article about this coach. ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:37, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
hey, just so we're clear
my edits were not destructive.
Yes, the one to St. Matt's was in fun, but the rest are legitimate.
You may not know, actually, you could not know, that we at St. Peter have a friendly rivalry with St. Matt's.
So, yes, the St. Matt's edit was in fun.
But the others are correct. Linda Meulenbroek is indeed our new principal, Frances Labelle is indeed our new OA, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.148.28.151 (talk) 20:45, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not the place to carry out "friendly rivalries", nor is it a place where disruption and vandalism is tolerated. If you continue to engage in disruptive behavior, you will be blocked from editing. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:48, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
Following up on my last message
Oshwah, just so you are clear: I am a teacher at St. Peter CHS. I created basically all the content on our Wiki page, over the past 18 years.
And your deleting of my updates is not only incorrect, it is destructive.
As a staff, we have talked about how to support our students in this new COVID era. One way we sought to do so was to hide 'clues' and 'Easter Eggs' in our school site on Wikipedia, to engage our kids and to foster some sense of togetherness in this 'apart' world. We had an intro plan for our kids for Tuesday.
You have undone that.
So, I guess Congratulations are in order. And yes, I am being ironic.
We have had less than 72 hours to try to come up with at least some fun things for our school. And you have undone them.
Please stop thinking you know the reasons for people editing or creating new content. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.148.28.151 (talk) 20:56, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- This is an encyclopedia. We don't hide 'easter eggs' in encyclopedia articles. If you want to do that, do it on your own site. It doesn't matter if you're a teacher, or not. SQLQuery me! 21:02, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Wikipedia is not a place for adding "easter eggs" or "clues", as you state it. This is an encyclopedia, and as a teacher, you should respect that instead of treating Wikipedia like a playground. If you really want to help support your students and garner collaboration and teamwork with them, why not encourage them to create an account, join Wikipedia, and make positive contributions that support our founding principles and help build the encyclopedia? That sounds a lot more productive than what you're doing... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:03, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
- And I'll be clear with you: If you make any more disruptive edits, you will be blocked from editing. This is your final warning. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:06, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Hey Oshwah
Just touching base again.
We have had an incredibly ignorant message from a Chris Troutman, and cannot believe what we are reading.
You were very clear, reasonable, and fair, as was the next moderator who wrote to us.
But this guy seems to have a huge ego issue. If he had actually read what we have written, he should never have written what he did.
We're actually sitting here together wondering how in the world that guy became an editor or moderator.
Please pass our concerns on to whomever is his superior.
We totally acknowledge (as we did earlier) that we were in error in using the wiki site to plan an activity for our students.
But now, to receive his message, referring to 'screwing around' with the site, is unjust.
We told you what we were attempting to do. Yes, we were in error. But why is this guy beating us up when we've already replied and noted that we understood where we went wrong?
Your insight would be much appreciated — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.148.28.151 (talk) 00:40, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- Don't worry about your past errors... they're in the past. We worked through that and, quite frankly, it's forgotten. :-) You learned from it, and that's what's truly important. Just look ahead and take what you learned and apply it; don't dwell on the past. Chris troutman used a program called Twinkle to revert your edits, and while the warning he left for you was very stern, it was most likely automated and not left by him manually and to threaten a block - though that's what happened due to his use of the tool. This is the unfortunate consequence of using automated tools to fight vandalism. The software reverts the edit, sees which warning you received last time, and plops the next-serious warning on your talk page. That's not fair on you given this situation, but please understand that he probably didn't know what was going on. Like I said earlier - I highly recommend (but don't require) that you do a couple of things: First, create an account. Second, start using that account to edit. Third, go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial immediately after you create your account. It will help you, and it will help you a lot. I started editing here 13 years ago, and there were NO good tutorials on how to get started and edit; you were basically thrown into the boxing pen and you had to figure it out yourself (or be blocked if you couldn't). I'm happy to say that things have changed a lot around here in this regard. That tutorial will get you started and it will help you. So please... please please please... do what I recommend. Create an account, go through that tutorial, and come to me if you have questions. I'm available and more than happy to help you. I want you to be here, and I want you to be apart of this community. Otherwise, I would've just said "meh... he can buzz off". I'm not that kind of person, and I want to help you. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:23, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
Editing (2)
Hi Oshwah,
For a long time I have used Wikipedia and donated, but only today have attempted to edit something. As such I had some general questions for you as it relates to editing a page.
When a page is locked, is there a way to suggests a edit? I only ask because I recently read a statement which I found concerning on Wikipedia and the page is locked (I went ahead and started a “talk” thread related to it as I figured that may be a relevant way to start).
Does anyone with an account have the permissions to lock a page? I can see the functionality of this tool and was trying to ascertain more information on how it works. Also if I did not sign this post correctly please let me know, I am trying to understand the nuances of Wikipedia still.
Thank you, JDFE24 (talk) 04:37, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
- I'll answer these questions, if you don't mind, Oshwah.
- You can request an edit on the talk page of a protected article. Be sure to come with sources to back up the changes you want made.
- Only administrators can protect pages, and even then there is a policy in place about when to protect and what level to use: WP:Protection policy. You can request a page be protected or unprotected at WP:Requests for page protection.

Done. In the future, you should email these requests to me instead of posting them here. This talk page is watched by over 1000 accounts; they get notified when edits are made here. When you post requests like this publicly, you will almost certainly trigger the Streisand effect. Users will see the change notification, read your message, and quickly run over to the edit to read the information before they lose the ability to see it... That's obviously no bueno. ;-) You're not in any trouble; I'm just looking out for you is all... Update to the "Shema Yisrael" page
Good Afternoon Oshwah,
It seems that you deleted my update to the "Shema Yisrael" wikipedia page. YOu stated that you thought or it looked like a test. It was not a test, so maybe I did it wrong, but as a Hebrew School teacher (Kitah Dahlet, grade 4) all I wanted to do was add the Hebrew for V'Ahavtah. That's it. If my students wanted to look it up as we learn about it, I wanted them to see the Hebrew. Now they can't/won't. The Hebrew spelling can be found in the Siddur Sim Shalom that we use, or any other.

American English
Hi Oshwah, could you look at possible semi-protection for American English? We've had at least 3 separate IPs from different locations in England making the same types of deletions in the past several weeks. One IP (the second) opened a discussion on the talk page, but meanwhile a third IP has shown up to delete the same material. I don't see a better option than a semi for several weeks, but perhaps you know of one? (Other than doing nothing, which is of course a valid option too!) Thanks. Hi Oshwah
The thing is, there is an editor who. It violates the rule of the three reversions (3RR), the editing war (BRD) and acts of vandalism, as if the Wikipedia were your private home where you can do what you want. His name is Akerbeltz. Enter the Basque Mythology page, look at the history and you will see what is happening. This person makes fun of everything and does not admit as a reference a book and author that is as a reference in the national libraries and universities of the world: National Library of Spain, National Library of Germany, National Library of Albania, National Library of Russia, National Library of Japan, Royal Academy of the Basque Language, University of Barcelona and a long etc. Please do something and fix it. He acts like a tyrant with no respect for people and no respect for Wikipedia rules.--Edgeblack (talk) 19:08, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- I forgot to tell you. Like the editor (Akerbeltz), the administrator always gets his way, as the other administrators always act on his side to protect him. You know he uses that "my friends' friends are my friends" and here, as in politics, he pulls and uses those friends to do whatever he wants. Many people have denounced him and nothing is ever achieved, so it is normal for him to believe that Wikipedia is his home and he does what he wants. Now, for example, you have already managed to make the reversion in your favor and protect the page. Those new to wikipedia like me who have no privileges, no friends, and on top of that we don't know and can't do those things, we always lose and the only option we have is to withdraw from Wikipedia. It's not fair. Greetings and thanks. Here as in real life the same people always win.--Edgeblack (talk) 19:26, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- (by talk reader) @Edgeblack: Rather than continue to edit war, why not discuss on the talk page? Wikipedia relies upon reliable sources and the consensus of editors. You don't need to blame Akerbeltz as if the community is just doing him a favor because he's an established editor and you're new. While we're on the subject, why wouldn't we favor our established editors? This encyclopedia exists because of editors who write articles year after year, not the drive-by folks who don't like what they see. How would Wikipedia, as an institution, continue to function if we buy your sob-story about how unfair it is to you, the editor posting what looks like spam? Don't you think we find your behavior offensive, making this noise about favoritism? If your goal was to gain pity, maybe consider how many thousands of editors cry tears annually over their inability to get their way. Chris Troutman (talk) 00:15, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
- Edgeblack - I understand that you're frustrated, but continuing to edit war, pointing fingers, and accusing other editors of treating Wikipedia as their "private home", and saying that they "make fun of everything" isn't helping your case at all. It also doesn't help when you point fingers at the administrator and automatically say that they "always get [their] way", and that he/she recruits friends to come to their defense to smother an editing dispute. Administrators are senior-level editors who are trusted by the community to set the example and not to use their tools where they are involved. Did you cite the book properly? Just because it's a book doesn't make it reliable. There are many people who publish books; that doesn't mean that the information within it is automatically true and correct. Don't combat what you believe to be "politics" with politics. You know how to resolve disputes properly; you need to do so. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:50, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

Protection
Hello, you've taken care of lots of protection requests, so I'm asking you if you could take care of this too: Wikipedia:Requests for page protection#Dredg. 151.21.72.247 (talk) 09:27, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi there! This request has been declined by Woody. Unfortunately, this is where the case must be closed. Unless you have a reason for me to look into it despite the fact that he did so? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:08, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, I've read just now your reply, I'd already written a message in Woody's talk page, I'm telling you the same things I told him. There're lots of different IPs who continue disrupting the page since months. Even if it's true this disruption doesn't happen multiple times a day, during the last months the only edits in that page were vandalisms and rollbacks, and the anonymous vandal has been using very different IP ranges. If that page isn't protected he'll continue doing the same thing using new IPs. This should be a sufficient reason to semiprotect the page in my opinion, I hope that you'll concur with it. 151.21.72.247 (talk) 11:22, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
- Re-file for page protection and ask for pending changes protection. I didn't think that the article needed either, but you'll have a better case if you ask for this rather than semi protection. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:20, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for your suggestion! Where exactly should I request for pending revision protection? The page you've linked there isn't used foru such requests... - You can request it on the same page you requested semi-protection - here. :-) To be clear: I don't think this article qualifies for pending changes protection, but I figured you could still request it, and I'll let another administrator review it. This request will be more likely to be considered compared to semi protection. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:03, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I'm back for another reason regarding the same issue. You're a longtime admin, I thought that you could give me some good advice about this situation.
- A cross-wiki vandal, probably an LTA, has been disrupting for over a year the page Dredg and other similar pages, both here and in other wikis.
- The vandal must Italian because he's been using Italian IP ranges starting with 151, included mine which starts with 151.21, but not only mine.
- After the latest vandalism, the user who reverted him last week asked to protect the page.
- An admin, Ohnoitsjamie, has declined the request and, instead, blocked the most recent IP range used by the vandal, 151.21.0.0/16, which is mine too.
- When I noticed that there was a partial block on my IP range I asked for an unblock, because I'm not that vandal and because the better solution to counter the vandal is protecting the page instead of blocking a single IP range and other single IPs, but the request was rejected.
- Meanwhile, the vandal has continued creating disruption in the same page from different IP ranges, even yesterday too.
- I asked to protect it in the RFPP page but this request was rejected too, as you know.
- Today I followed your suggestion and asked that particular type of protection, another admin granted the request.
- Guess what: Ohnoitsjamie unprotected the page and modified my IP range block to prevent me from asking for more requests (he'd already increased the block from 6 months to 2 years after my first request, even if there was no reason because my IP range was already prevented from editing that page and because no further disruption has been created from this IP range since then).
Now I'm going to speak frankly. I don't think that Ohnoitsjamie's behavior has been correct since the beginning, he's been interfering even after the page had been protected even if he had no reason to do it, and to me it looks like he's more interested in frustrating me than in the sake of the project (why on earth unprotecting a page which continues being disrupted by new and new IPs?!). But I know he isn't the owner of Wikipedia, he's one admin among hundreds. His way to deal with this issue is "his" way, not everybody else would have acted in the same way as him. The advice I'm asking you is this: what can I do to have a fair judgement about this story, to have my name cleared (for him I'm still the vandal who did this and this and all the other similar vandalisms just because one of his IP ranges matches with mine), to have my IP range unblocked and that page protected? I hate the vandal who caused all this to me, so you can imagine how being accused to be him and have to undergo the same punishment as him screws me up. I'm not the vandal, would I ever ask to protect that page from all anonymous if I were the vandal who keeps switching IPs? Ohnoitsjamie is as human as us, he isn't infallible, I'm sure he's a good person but in this case he got wrong and he's persisting in his error. I'd like to be freed from his error, do you have any advice to help me succeed or there's no way this error can be reviewed and remedied? 151.21.66.141 (talk) 18:12, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
- This is tedious forum-shopping carried over from here. This user seems to be upset that the partial range blocks that only affect them have not been expanded to full semi-protection, for reasons that are beyond me. It's quite obvious it's the same person (all ranges geolocate to the same region of Italy); I can't imagine how an "innocent" user from the same IP range in Italy would be interested in the editing the page of the same obscure band. I'm very close to upgrading the partial block to a full block. OhNoitsJamie Talk 18:28, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
NYC
Can you take a look at the page history of A Division (New York City Subway) and B Division (New York City Subway)? An editor keeps re-adding a fork of another article and has been reverted by myself and two other editors. Cards84664 16:11, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

My resources are deleted.
Resource sharing (talk) 11:51, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
