Hello, You were a bit quick off the mark!As in real quick! I had not even finished my edit when you deleted it. |
|||
Im not sure if I follow your comment at all? Not constructive? Weasel words? I was simply adding important information to an article about a major group in NZ society. Clearly the information itself is pretty explanatory. The use of tobacco is a regular part of Maori culture and has been since about 1830. That's coming up to 200 years. The comparison with Pakeka is to show how entrenched is this custom cf the general population. Using your logic you would have to delete millions of edits from Wiki because they are "not constructive". Did you really mean "makes them look bad?" This is censorship with a capital C! For example in an article about Nazis you would have to remove any reference to the holocaust because its "not constructive?" Should I add revisionist to the list? This is the same argument used by a certain Maori academic to criticize Paul Moon's book about cannibalism-she claimed it made Maori "look bad".Claudia |

In re: "Daisy Bell"
Hello, Horses: I got your message regarding my edits to the Daisy Bell article. While I am not married to any editorial changes I make on wikipedia, I do question the rationale you gave for deleting my edits, viz., that "it didn't appear constructive".
The article is allegedy about a popular song from the 1890's, yet more than half of the original article was about mid-20th century efforts at computer voice synthesis. While Daisy Bell did indeed play a part in those efforts, that is, in fact, a relatively minor part of the song's long history. Please note that I didn't delete any of the computer material, even though most of it is irrelevent to the history of the song, and should probably be placed in an article on computer voice synthesis.
My edit did two things: it provided the original lyrics to the song, which were not present in the article, and it included information about the parodic use of the song, a function which the song has fulfilled for more than a century, and far longer than it's use with computers.
In other words, I think my addition was constructive, as it balanced the irrelevent material in the article with relevent material about the song itself.
I would suggest that you put it back. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.95.43.249 (talk) 22:05, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- I thought the edit [2] to Daisy Bell was an improvement overall. I don't know about adding the lyrics; it's usually not done. I thought the sourced information was interesting, though, and I agree that the "Milestones in Technology" information needs to be de-emphasized. Willondon (talk) 03:04, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Paula Hahn-Weinheimer
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Paula Hahn-Weinheimer requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Re: Miss_Earth_Australia
@I dream of horses: Hi I dream of horses,
It is indeed unfortunate that an event like Miss Earth Australia, which has been running for over 10 years has ended up being a scam run by a notorious fraud. The current president, Roselyn Singh, has a long history perpetrating various scams on unsuspecting victims. Before anybody gets involved with Miss Earth Australia, under its current ownership (since 2013), they should be aware of who they are dealing with before committing money, services or in kind assistance.
The allegations against Roselyn Singh are well founded and supported by irrefutable evidence. As search for Miss Earth Australia lands some users on Wikipedia the information provided aids Roselyn Singh secure more victims. Wikipedia is effectively supporting fraud whilst it denies readers an opportunity to make an informed decision on this event (Miss Earth Australia).
We do hope you will reinstate the link to "Miss Earth Australia - A Scam? (http://www.datatheft.com.au/2014/09/miss-earth-australia-official.html)

Help! Want to upload an image but I don't know where to start.
I want to upload an image for the Fruela Fuente article. It's a picture from one of his modeling shoots and because it has been featured on blogs, newspapers articles, etc. I thought it would be okay to use for the article. But I don't know what the license for the photo is (especially since it was probably taken in Spain, where Fruela lives, so I don't know what there photo licenses are), so I haven't uploaded it yet cause I'm Wikipedia will delete it. I don't know what to do next. Knowledgeispwerr (talk) 18:52, 2 November 2014 (UTC).
- (by talk page stalker) since I don't think this page's editor is online. Start with WP:UPIMAGE. It appears that you are saying that this picture is recent and was not taken by you, in which case it is unlikely that Wikipedia will be able to use it. It does not matter where else it has been used. If it was not (or cannot now be) released by the original copyright holder under a free license that is compatible with Wikipedia's requirements we cannot use it. There is no possibility of uploading the image to English Wikipedia rather than to Commons under a fair use rationale since it would certainly be possible to take a new picture of the person that could be freely licensed. Better translation and reference to alternative versions
Hi,
I am just about putting the link in a reference in the header, now that I found out how to do it.
Basically I intended to do the following: - Link to replace the dead cassidy link: http://www.countysongs.ie/song/baidin-fheilimi-phelims-boat -> It has a more traditional last verse, knowing that the Sinead used the more modern one not mentioning fish -> In the current version, the word for fish is incorrect: it should be Iasc (whcih plural is éisc but is not needed; but never easc (see http://breis.focloir.ie/ga/fgb/iasc) -> IN your current version, the last verse is a mix of the two tradition - Also the name is better translated as Phelim, especially if the lyrics are not using "Fheidhlimidh"
Overall the link refers to a better transcription and better translation too, especially with the "she" instead of repeating "boat", as it flows better and is closer to the spirit of the song.
Now I leave it to you, as by restoring the page to remove the link, you also removed all the edits I did :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.243.212.225 (talk) 00:23, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Can we please update the description of name "Alexandra"? Currently existing description of "curse" and "rape portrays a negative message and does not allow for the appropriate use of the academic knowledge in order to neutrally objectively describe a history / background of a name, rather suggest negative connotation to the name of any individual called by this name. - (talk page stalker)The reason Carbohydrillium redirects to another page is because no one has written an article on it yet. To do so would require summarizing, paraphrasing, and citing multiple reliable academic or journalistic sources that discuss carbohydrillium. These sources would have to be unaffiliated with any creators or manufacturers of carbohydrillium. I didn't get any usable results on Google books or Google news, so that probably means there are no sources out there that meet Wikipedia's reliability standards. The closest I found to a reliable source (though in this case considered unreliable since it's not about video games) was Kotaku repeating pretty much what our article on Aaron Fechter says.
