Hey
Hey Hamedog hows it going? I came across your work-in-progress of All Blacks Tests whilst going through a 'what links here' for one of the rugby teams. Nice work, it should be great when its finished. What else have you been editing lately? Following the APC? Cvene64 05:22, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Project RU Assessment
Hey, was wondering if you would consider helping assess articles on Rugby. I've been trying to sort out Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby union/Assessment. I'm getting their but at the moment I am the only assessor. Could you help out? - Shudda talk 00:14, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Rugby Union Starting Lineups
Hello, Hamedog. I'm quite new to this, but I was just wondering how one would go about editing Image:Rugby Union blank line ups.PNG for various teams. I tried saving the '.png' file to my desktop, and simply editing it with The Gimp, but I had no idea what text to use, and I was wondering if this was even the right way to do it. I noticed the Soccer Line-Up images were in the '.svg' format, which allows people to simply edit the text and colours in a program like Inkscape, but I'm not sure this is possible with PNG files. Please help if you can. Thanks --Leotalk 18:31, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
- Basically, I use Paint, as I have no other program. In paint in use the fill option to colour all the white shirts. Then I delete the position names, writing in the new ones. The font I use is 8 Arial, in bold, Western. Hope this helps. If you can convert to .svg, please do so.--HamedogTalk|@ 02:25, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- Alright, I gave it a go with Photoshop with this result: Image:New_Zealand_South_Africa_August_26_2006_TNS.PNG. (Sadly, I have no idea how to convert a file to .svg.) Thanks for the help - this may come in handy when the November tests arive. - Leo Stewarttalk
Posting spurious system messages
Please do not post spurious system messages (that is, messages which falsely purport to be generated by the Wikimedia software). They are distracting and therefore obstruct the use of Wikipedia for its intended purpose. Please refer to the following Wikipedia policies and guidelines:
- "Feel free to decorate your personal pages as you see fit, but keep in mind that your user talk page has the important function of allowing other editors to communicate with you. People will get upset if they cannot use it for that purpose." (from Wikipedia:User talk pages)
- "As a tradition, Wikipedia offers wide latitude to users to manage their user space as they see fit. However, pages in user space still do belong to the community… material that does not somehow further the goals of the project may be removed." (from Wikipedia:User pages#Ownership and editing of pages in the user space)
- "If the community lets you know that they would rather you deleted some or other content from your user space, you should probably do so… If you do not cooperate, we will eventually simply remove inappropriate content…" (from Wikipedia:User pages#Removal)

- I just asked on IRC, and while the users said it was "annoying" and "lame" they also said it is not disallowed, so I am reposting it.--HamedogTalk|@ 03:55, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- They also asked you to simply stop doing it, because it confuses others. Please. Jonathunder 03:58, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Psychonaut, kindly stop harassing users. Fake system messages are 100% within policy, in poor taste true... but last I checked poor taste was not against policy. This type of crap is why admins get a bad name... oh wait your not an admin. Its not your job to enforce policy, leave that to those of us who ARE ADMINS. ALKIVAR™ 04:01, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- I must point out that your interpretation of the role of administrators versus ordinary users is incorrect. All users, not just administrators, are allowed and even expected to advise on and enforce Wikipedia policies. See, for example, Wikipedia:Administrators, which states,
- In the very early days of Wikipedia, all users functioned as administrators, and in principle they still should. Any user can behave in a way befitting an administrator (provided they do not falsely claim to be one), even if they have not been given the extra administrative functions.
- It is within all editors' rights to remove false system messages and other objectionable content, and doing so twice (with a more elaborate explanation each time) is hardly enough to be considered harassment. If you are an administrator, as your posting implies, then it appears you need to read up on Wikipedia policy and cease issuing these false warnings. —Psychonaut 12:39, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
North Korea vs. DPRK
Please do not systematically change North Korea to DPRK. The current naming convention is the result of a consensus among many editors. If you think it should be different, please take it up on Talk:North Korea rather than simply changing articles against the consensus. Otherwise, your edits will likely be reverted. --Reuben 04:07, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
- Note, I have already had a name change / requested move there which was defeated, despite Wikipedia policy. In my understanding of the policy of article names, DPRK should be the name.--HamedogTalk|@ 05:38, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
- In other words, you already know perfectly well what the consensus is, and that most editors don't agree with your interpretation of the policy. Please respect the consensus. --Reuben 06:04, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Also, I suggest you read Wikipedia:Naming_conflict#Rationale - have a look at the table. I my understanding it would look like this if we used it for the DPRK:
Criterion | North Korea | DPRK |
1. Most commonly used name in English | 1 | ? |
2. Current undisputed official name of entity | ? | 1 |
3. Current self-identifying name of entity | ? | 1 |
1 point = yes, 0 points = no. Add totals to get final scores. |
Under Wikipedia policy, which goes against the majority, DPRK is what we should be using. "What is right may not be popular, what is popular may not be right"--HamedogTalk|@ 06:51, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
- Take it up on Talk:North Korea. --Reuben 07:17, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Git/Mitchell
Hey mate, yeah I definantly think it could at least get a few words in the article. It is undoubtably notable, so yeah, please edit it in where you think it should go. Cheers. Cvene64 07:32, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Fantastic job with that page! My computer has been down this week, but was fixed yesterday, and I was just about to start on the 2007 seaon, but I see its done! Excellant :). And yeah, pre-season games are needed imo, I wanted to include them in 2006 but by the time I wanted to edit them I could not find all the results. As for UTC times, I'm not sure? Raise it on the talk page imo. Cvene64 07:44, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Currie Cup
Watching it right now :). The atmos there looks great. By the way, Fox is showing 14 Tests next month, so that should be good as well. Cheers Cvene64 14:41, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
- Haha yeah that was cool. Cvene64 15:28, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
Hey
Yeah, I think All Blacks is the most important article on here, and I've always wanted to work on it. By the way, I left a message on the FA Todays Article thing. Also, although its frustrating, we need to be sure we don't piss off the admins. PS, how is the ABs Test record going? Cheers. Cvene64 06:26, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Do you want to start up a discussion on the talk page and make a list of objectives/ideas? Cvene64 07:48, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah definantly. The ABs should be our highest quality article on here. Cvene64 08:24, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Re: RWC: YES!! This is fantastic! Good work mate! Cvene64 02:55, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ah nice work! I say Free RWC William Webb Ellis.PNG, only because the current one is not free, though we have permission, its always better to use a free one, and then other wikis can use it. The Tindall one obviously is not as good because its got people in it, and the other one is part of an image that is already in the article. So if that is cool, can we use Free RWC William Webb Ellis.PNG? Cvene64 06:46, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

ok, seeing as your not a vandal, I'm guessing you didn't vandalize my talkpage, but uhhh.. ur message just now was a bit weird, what was that all about? lol -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 15:05, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
ok, ok, i see now... lol, see, i had no clue who you were and suddenly you put this weird message on my talk page, but now that i know who you are, then i understand everything. Heh, I told you that it would bring it to the FA director's attention and he'd feature it soon, now you got your article featured. I was sure it would happen because I've been doing my little mainteance job for like 14 months now and i just notice these sort of things, it's funny. Congratulations though -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 15:14, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- hah, yeah i got that the 2nd time i read it, i just thought it was odd because you added ~~~~ to it so you signature came out, and that made it seem vandal-like, but later i changed my stance lol. Yeah, I probably should take up rugby; I smash my head against the pavement going 25 MPH wearing no helmet and and end up with a 5 day headache, some blood loss and a few stitches, nothing more... anyone else would be dead! I've been told I'm hard headed, but this is ridiculou, ha ha. Thanks for your message. -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 03:56, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- I actuallt like the one that there is now, but it doesn't seem to showcase the trophy enough. If the trophy image is a free image that can be placed on the main page (fair use images can't be, there must be permission to use the image granted by the person who owns it for it to be on the main page, or be in the public domain to make it on the main page) then I'd suggest using the trophy image instead, unless the rugby world cup has an official logo then the logo would be best, I vote for the trophy if it's free. -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 04:03, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, the trophy one should be great, but have User:Raul654 change it for you. I can technically do it, but he might oppose and he is the one in charge after all. There shouldn't be any trouble with him in this case. -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 04:06, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Du Manoir
Hi Hamedog! Thank you so much for the compliments, it's always a pleasure to get (positive) feedback, esp. from NZ when it comes to rugby. I added the reference to the Du Manoir article, though the book is in French and out of print. And I looked aroud for a website with more than what I just included with no success, unless it's just for sources. I'll add them and keep my eyes open. I redid the articles on NZ provinces in the French WP because some of them were pretty sloppy. My next job will be to add the details of the finals of the French championship. Shall I make a separate article or just use the existing one? Anyway, now we're ready for Tana to arrive! Huge! He'll have a lot to do to get Toulon out of the hole they're in! Cheers! Beru91 16:43, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Pretty sure the Wallabies high performance manager and the singer that is the subject of our Pat Wilson article are not the same "Pat Wilson". See Talk:Pat Wilson. Cheers! —Stormie 23:15, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
cheers for the revert
I dont know if protection is necessary. If it gets really bad i would ask an admin to do it. Otherwise, there is a pretty big group of wikipedians devoted to reverting vandalism! If i see it vandalized, i will be sure to revert it again! Chris Kreider - HFF 07:03, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

RfA
Hey, there -- you've disconnected from IRC. Mind if I add a belated co-nom? Early draft at User:Luna Santin/sandbox if you'd like to see it. Luna Santin 10:28, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Just want to wish you happy first edit day, and good luck for the RfA! Cheers -- Imoeng 12:14, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- And why would you being sarcastic? :D. Also, I asked some questions, it doesn't mean I oppose you or something. I will express my opinion probably on the last days. Cheers -- Imoeng
- Oh actually, I really do not know, seriously. In the end, there will always something which makes me support or oppose someone. Lets see what this thing would be ;). Oh alright, I will be honest. At the moment, I seem to oppose you (but I am newbier than you, I joined in July 2006), because although edit count does not really matter, yours is pretty much around me (4500, mine is 3000), which is not so high. Again, it doesn't reflect your capabilities, but it shows your contribution to Wikipedia. You might want to see this. Also your answers to the questions are somewhat questionable, not so specific, which makes some editors, including me, worry. However I do agree about the AfD thing, that it is not a compulsory thing for an admin, there are heaps of jobs out there for admins. But lets see, maybe things will change. Again, good luck. Cheers -- Imoeng 12:35, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Rugby World Cup
Perhaps you might want to change the image to Image:William Webb Ellis Cup.jpg?--HamedogTalk|@ 12:16, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'll pass; because (1) the holder's arm appears too prominently and distracting, (2) more details of the Cup can be seen in the current pic (Image:Free RWC William Webb Ellis.PNG). Thanks for the suggestion, though. -- PFHLai 12:25, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for your opinions.--HamedogTalk|@ 12:29, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hamedog, you might want to check with the TFA Director. He prefers using images actually in use in the FAs. --PFHLai 12:35, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
