:Nobody sincerely doubts that your motives lie in the betterment of Wikipedia, regardless of whether they think you're a good candidate to be an administrator. On indefinite wikibreak, reassessing my position within the community.
- You've disabled your email, so I'll say this here.
- I owe you an apology. I and others thought that you would make a good administrator and I didn't foresee your RfA going that way, nor doing so in quite such dramatic style. It seems others did and so perhaps I should have. For that, I am deeply sorry. I'm sorry to have put you through an emotional rollercoaster. I really do hope you will dwell on the many positive aspects of your contributions, such as those I mentioned in my nomination statement rather than spending too much time dwelling on the negatives, because we are all flawed and none of us like to be told so. You have made some excellent contributions here and I hope you will return when you're ready and continue to do so. I, for one, have always valued your input. So, some of your contributions haven't gone down well, so you're human—I've made some truly atrocious decisions in my time here (I've put a copyvio on the Main Page, caused a server lag [not to mention uproar at ANI] by protecting 3,000 templates and made a couple of blocks that, in hindsight, were pretty shocking) but I've recovered.
- Nobody sincerely doubts that your motives lie in the betterment of Wikipedia, regardless of whether they think you're a good candidate to be an administrator. Admin work, for the most part, is very monotonous, even tedious and no matter how much work you put into clearing a backlog, it'll be back again tomorrow! You are a valuable member of the community and don't let anybody tell you otherwise. I hope you will come back with your head held high (yes, I know, awful cliché, sorry) and continue to make constructive contributions. :You're welcome to email me directly at hjmitchell at ymail dot com. Your RfA
Dear Giftiger,
I have been reflecting on your RfA and I think I did not word my oppose as tactfully as I might have. If my comments have hurt your feelings or caused you distress in any other way, then that is a matter of considerable regret to me. It was certainly not my intention to suggest that you are not a valued contributor -- clearly you are and your contribution history reflects that. I should have noted as such in my comments at the RfA.
I still feel that the diffs I provided indicate that you are not suited to Adminship at this time and I would still oppose your promotion right now, but I would certainly be more careful with my choice of words. I hope you return to Wikipedia and continue to participate. I think that, with a little attention to the way you interact with others, you may well make a great administrator at some point in the future.

Feeling bad for you
I feel bad that you took it that way. I didn't !vote, but I was thinking about supporting, given that I see you as a very intelligent member of our community. Please chalk it up to experience, and stay. --Tryptofish (talk) 01:48, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- I confess I wasn't aware of your RfA, but I have seen you around and have been impressed by your edits, for what it's worth. RashersTierney (talk) 01:52, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
WTH!?!
Seriously? You of all people should know what a hellhole RfA can be. Don't let that crap get you down - you are sure as hell needed, brisk or not. I know you don't want a bunch of people posting "Stay please!", but I had to say something. Hope to see you back soon. Nolelover It's football season! 01:56, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Please don't leave
Just because I opposed your RfA does not mean I think you're a net negative to the project. Issues with temperament are undesirable, but they're not impossible to work out, and they don't make you permanently ineligible for adminship either. Take Ironholds for example; he failed RfA time and time again due to the same issues that kept your RfA on the ground, and he finally passed just last week. Now I'm not saying it'll take 7 tries for you to become an admin; hell, if you wait long enough after today and address the issues raised in that time, you could get the mop in Round #2.
Having a temper does not in any way preclude you from being a good editor. We have plenty of fantastic contributors who have tempers. We even have great admins who have tempers. And for the record, that was one oppose voter who said you are a net negative. He was clearly out of line in saying that; just because you're not suitable for adminship, does not mean you're not suitable for Wikipedia.
By all means, take as much time as you need to relax. Trust me, I've been through RfA before, and I went down in flames. It's something we have in common. But whatever you do, please don't make this permanent. --Dylan620 (t • c • r) 01:59, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
