Hi Gerald. I just updated the membership # in the article based on the current About GCN page and also based on a post made by one of the admins, who gave an even higher number. I cited both numbers, but I'm not sure whether those citations will be sufficient. Take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks! Thanks for uploading :File:Josephriderfarrington.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license. |
|||
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either |
|||
* make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or |
|||
* Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion. |
|||
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en. |
|||
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as non-free fair use in or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. |

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in [ your upload log]. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Are you back?
Hello, your user page says you are "on leave" but I noticed a few edits recently. Hope you are back. I did have a question. Back about six and a half years ago, you uploaded a fair number of pictures that have been migrated into commons. Many are missing source and copyright information. So far they seem to have escaped notice, but some day they might go away. The copyright enforcement was more ad-hoc in the old days. For example, File:Kalakauapainting.jpg looks like a modern painting from the old picture. It says "Hawaii State Archives official painting" in the upload comment, but that would make it copyright the state, not public domain I would think. Do we know for sure the copyright holder died before 1940? Do you remember the actual sources for these? Thanks for any help. W Nowicki (talk) 22:42, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has changed a lot through the years. Nothing like what I was playing around with in high school. I think it would be safe to just discard all of those pieces and hope someone comes up with better material that's more accurately sourced. Knowing how many people are on this thing, it would be in no time that better material gets loaded onto the site. Gerald Farinas (talk) 02:21, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
Well the articles have changed but alas, many of the old pictures are still there, and as a moderate non-deletionist I am reluctant to spend time going through the deletion process. Although Wikipedia itself has many editors, it has actually not grown in terms of contributors for many years (probably due to the many blogs, facebooks and twitter etc.). In particular, there seem to be just three or four people who work on Hawaiian history off and on. So you might suprised at how slowly it changes (although a flurry of activity now, presumably because school is out). There does seem to be much activity in pop singers and other parts of the world, but history is somewhat neglected.
By the way, I lived in the Chicago area a while back, so happen to be working on some political history there right now. See McCormick Chicago family tree and Medill Chicago family tree for example. I had to split into two because there are so many, but they still need tons of work. My brother still lives there, the last employee of Santa Fe. W Nowicki (talk) 18:22, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
GCN
Hi Gerald. I just updated the membership # in the article based on the current About GCN page and also based on a post made by one of the admins, who gave an even higher number. I cited both numbers, but I'm not sure whether those citations will be sufficient. Take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks! Aristophanes68 (talk) 08:21, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
