****How? Do I randomly go around insulting everyone who is interested in anything at all, like '''you do'''? I think YOU'RE the brat, if you can't learn to keep your racist (I say that because you calling me a "brat" just because I like Pokemon is comparable to racism) mouth shut. A brat usually implys that the person is immature, so you shouldn't be talking. Brat. [[User:Oven Fresh|Oven Fresh]] 02:07, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC) |

Good job with the Rutgers page! Are you a Princeton student? --Etaonish 03:28, Oct 1, 2004 (UTC)
"Rugby" at Rutgers
Have you seen the recent discussion on the Rutgers talk page? I think the reference to rugby should be removed from the article. Grant65 (Talk) 11:10, Nov 10, 2004 (UTC)
- If Rutgers officially refers to it as derived from "rugby" and the historical resources in their libraries and archives point to it as such (which I have reviewed), it won't be changed, and I will continue to revert any attempts to do so until the powers that be (at Rutgers) officially say otherwise. --ExplorerCDT 11:12, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)
New Albion
Hi. I saw your edits to New Albion. Certain you are welcome to contribute to the article. I'm not quite sure where you're coming from however, in your advocacy. I've studied the issue somewhat myself as an amateur, and I know for a fact that the question is far from settled as to the location. There are certainly many passionate voices that advocate the Marin County theory. The Whale Cove theory is only one theory, and a relatively recent one (very interesting, I have to say. I would not be surprised myself if they dug up his stockade there). The article needs to reflect the debate over this, with a Neutral point of view. I've adjusted to reflect that somewhat. I've also moved the Plowden grant of New Albion to a separate article, since it isn't really connected to the Drake colony. In any case, it is good to have another editor on this topic. Best wishes, -- Decumanus 18:21, 2004 Nov 10 (UTC)
- Also I fixed the dismabig to Edmund Plowden (colonial proprietor). Titles are coventionally not used in articles in Wikipedia (cf. Walter Raleigh, Isaac Newton), with preference of using vital dates or something else in parentheses after the name. You're free to change the disambig to something else more appropriate than (colonial proprietor) if you deem it so, of course. I'm not familiar that particular historical figure. -- Decumanus 18:55, 2004 Nov 10 (UTC)
- One more thing. Do you explicit permission from http://www.whalecove.com to contribute this image from here under the terms of the GFDL? In such a case either you must be the original copyright holder, or we must have explicit written permission from the person who owns the copyright. If not, it must be removed and deleted. If you would like, I would be more than happy to create a similar image showing the locations of Whale Cove and Drakes Estero, etc. on the coast of North America. I make such maps all the time and it would be fully licensed to be used in Wikipedia. I'm sorry to harp on this, but it is an important issue for Wikipedia not to infringe on copyrights and to get full permission for everything. -- Decumanus 20:36, 2004 Nov 10 (UTC)
Thanks for your edit on the New Albion page. While I do think that the Plowden colony of 1634-1650 and the Drake colony should be put together in one article (Plowden after all was inspired by the Drake account), I see your reasoning. As for Sir Edmund Plowden, I'll have to look over the research I've done to find out what would be the best title to replace for "colonial proprietor" as proprietary colonies didn't exist until the late 1600s/early 1700s (except New Jersey in 1664 which was markedly different). Plowden had "Count Palatine" powers over the colony, which made him equal in authority to the King. When I get his article written, you will probably enjoy him. He's a rather enigmatic figure, with a stubborn temper--a Catholic-turned-Athiest, who left on adventure in the New World to get away from a nagging wife whose inherited fortune he used (even without her permission) and persistant lawsuits (like after he hit a minister's pregnant wife), and when he got to the New World, his men mutinied (but he got back at them) so he sat for 7 years in a store in Virginia. Anyways, I received written permission for the images via e-mail, but if you want to make images (which I can only assume after seeing your work would be of better quality) I'd be much obliged. The Whale Cove theory is just one of many, but more and more scholarship is showing it to be the most likely, despite what the Marin zealots would say.--ExplorerCDT 03:45, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Grand Illusion
First class job on the revision.
Is it ok that I added in the literal title bit in Trivia? Criterion thought it significant enough to put a blurb about it in the bonus notes section of their DVD release. Ellsworth 20:23, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- I just watched the DVD last week. What Criterion said, in essence, is that the plain and flat-footed translation of the title would be "The Great Illusion" but that upon its initial screening (in New York, IIRC) it was promoted as "Grand Illusion" and the name stuck.
This isn't in the notes, but it seems apparent to me that it stuck because "Grand Illusion" sounds more, well, grand.
I'm not fluent in French, but I can read it a little, thus I concur with Criterion's conclusion about "great" v. "grand" Ellsworth 20:57, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- OK. Ellsworth 22:41, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Just thought I'd applaud you for calling me and anyone else who likes Pokemon a "brat" on the Fuck You and Die VfD. Hmm... Gosh, thats stereotyping! Oven Fresh 01:42, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
